GAMEDAY - Round 18

Recommended Posts

So we've reached that part of the season when nothing much hangs on the result for us and we're playing interstate against a team that we haven't beaten at their ground since just after the turn of the century.

We could still show some character and grit and go for the big upset ... couldn't we?

I can recall a rd 22 clash in 2000 when we went over there an pantsed them royally by 12 goals,  yze was on fire, goals galore out of our midfield, and locking in 3rd spot on the ladder.

That and the 98 upset win are my only fond memories of the mighty dees in perth

Dare to dream today boys?.... just like you did at skilled stadium last year.

For what its worth also we've responded with a win after our last 3 disappointing losses to st Kilda

R.P. McMurphy.....

We don't like it when you give the men hope.

Routine and rest is what they need.

Medication time...........

I've had enough medication since the saints debacle

Well Randall,

Some of the Doctors here are convinced that you're not really crazy, they think your just pretending to stay out of the penitentiary.

What do you say to that?

It's a nice thought Jack but we are now at the back end of the year.

When I look at the team it is The same crew that has not been able to beat any decent team all season.

The inclusions with one exception have not shown anything much in the past.

I have no confidence they can break a 16 game losing sequence.

According to The Age over payed and poor value for money Chris Dawes is one of the AFLPA player reps who met with the the AFL bosses late yesterday to agitate for more money. Could he have spent his time more wisely preparing for today's game?

^digging the confidence (til Nash came and shat on it :))

They have a formidable team on paper and are virtually unstoppable at home. It would be Roos' greatest win by a long way. Much better than beating a mid table Geelong last year.

I had all intention of heading to the game but have been called into work. If any locals want to go my two tickets can be picked up from the ground. Short notice I know but worth a shot, hopefully they don't go to waste. PM if you can make it.

Sad that Donald Trump has so much influence here.

I predict that the word "trump" is going to go the way of the toothbrush moustache: no one will use it by fear of association.

Won't get close. We just don't win these games. Even when we are going well we don't win them.

Whatever else we have been this team is not the cellar dweller of the past. As a mid table team with upside we are now always a chance of an upset. If we are on and they are a bit off thats enough for a win.

I think we will win, not sure why....

Just had a read of the West Coast board... They are a little nervous. Think Gawn & our midfield will get on top but their defence will shut us down.

It's an interesting point. We should have the edge at centre bounces & like the Adelaide game if we get on top we are hard to stop & inturn it'll restrict the WC forwards. If we are smart going forward & dont bomb it in long for the likes of McGovern, Mckenzie, Sheppard & Hurn to pick off we are a chance.

Big open ground should suit the likes of Stretch, Kent, Hunt, Harmes, Petracca. If we can beat them on the inside & get our running game going we can win. The game will be won or lost in the midfield & WC midfield isnt too scary

EDIT:Wouldn't be surprised to see McGovern a late out with his thumb, Schofield was dropped and is usually best 22.

Of course. But at the same time, as Roos has said, there is zero margin for error. When you look at the team, the inexperience, and the uncanny ability to drop from good to absolutely deplorable after one quarter break, the odds are as stacked against us as they have been in every game we've played there the past decade and a bit.

I'm actually confident we can keep it to a 4-5 goal loss, which would be a "win" imo. I think that if it's more than that, it'll be a blowout.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
