In hindsight was that? Suggest you go back and look at some of the posts that were here, hypocrisy is raising it's head again in some of the posts re Cook

Hindsight which part? I remember listening to the draft on SEN and I literally felt sick when his name was called out, partly because we missed out on Lynch by 1 pick and wanted Darling when we did. No hindsight there, don't try to tell me what I felt.

The phantom drafts? no hindsight there, have a look at them, all rated Cook 2nd round or lower. It was a ridiculous pick by Prenderghast.

I have found posts were posters on here were relieved when Darling wasn't picked, and were pleased with Cook, you want me to drag them out?

Hindsight is one of the most powerful tools on here

Uh uh, what has that got to do with my original post? I told you what I though at the time, what do the opinions of others in 2010 have to do with that? If I posted about that draft I guarantee it would say I wanted Lynch or Darling if he wasn't available.

I also wanted us to draft Toumpas over Wines. No hindsight there either.

Don't worry, it's going to happen again with Weeds so no need to dig through the archives.

i went quiet as the thread was locked. Still a worthy discussion imo, he went quiet late in the game when it was on the line again.

I'm looking forward to The Weed playing next year and I have no doubt we made the right decision.

I was a Lynch/Darling and Wines man but that's history now, Weed is the future.

Do you really think that picking up TMac with our fourth pick at pick 53 was a display of strategic insight? To me it was a random bit of luck considering he had just picked up (the highly-rated?) Troy Davis at pick 50, three selections earlier!

I'm not sure you can have it both ways.  You can't say he was awful when he missed and lucky when he picked well.  We also got Howe in that draft and despite the obvious resentment towards him he has turned into a good quality AFL footballer for a mid 30's pick.  And Scully is now a really good footballer but at pick 1 you'd expect that.

Prendergast was too smart by half and butchered 5 early picks - Strauss, Blease, Cook, Tapscott and Gysberts.  But he was involved in Jetta, Gawn, Viney, Watts and McDonald and whilst that is a very poor return for the opportunities he had getting Jetta, Gawn and McDonald with late picks is invaluable to us now (Viney was always coming an Watts at no.1 was a gimme).  It also must be said that the players he picked received the worst development in the AFL but I accept his record is poor.  Having said that I still think Gysberts in a good environment could have been very good.  He had the skills and just needed someone to guide him through the mental part of the game.  But that's another discussion - as is this one probably!

Agree.  Prendergast was par on early and late picks (great teams are better than this of course - hopefully Taylor is).  Prendergast's big failure was these picks in the 10-20 range.  0% hit rate is an absolute shocker - we should have 3 or 4 very good players in their mid 20s from these picks and that would be very handy right now.

Which are the hardest ones and most important ones to get right though, surely.  Those picks are where recruiters really earn their coin I would have thought.

I haven't seen enough of Weideman to know if he'll make a quality key forward, or not, but I do know that he needs 8-10 kgs before anyone can accurately predict.

As for Prendergast ?  Please.  An utter disaster.  The fact that he got a few selections right means nothing.  So could I and many of you.  When you're employed full time and travel the country watching kids play year after year after year it's not hard to get a few right.

Maybe I should bow down in gratitude that he didn't stuff up every single one.

Anyone know which draft we picked Weideman up in and when, please? Was it after 31st October 2015?

Yes it was, thanks willmoy! Now to find out which posters are trying to poach last year's Draft Picks

He's a great mark and a nice kick and he attacks the contest - I'm very bullish, if he doesn't make it forward, he'll make it back.  I really like Hulett too, he's good at ground level.

Fifty-5, do you know whether he played any junior footy as a backman?

Was thinking that either he or Hulett could be trialed as a CHB to give us another option.

No I don't know, I don't follow the TAC or U18 champs.  But I think that is definitely a future option.

I think the aim is to play Weed at FF and Hogan at CHF. Hulett could play forward or back, if he keeps developing. Looks a future player.

A club recruiter friend of mine had him at no 2 on his personal ratings. He said he could be anything can play FF/CHF also thinks he would make a terrific CHB.

In terms of disasters at the MFC, Prendergast rates above Neeld and Schwab.

Sorry 'Stretch', but the buck stops at the top.

CS takes the prize and shares it with the board who appointed and reappointed him.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
