I personally think we got the better player of the two, and my massive call is, Weiderman will be a better player than both in my very honest opinion, he is a great talent.

That is a huge call nd I sure hope you are right.

By way of context, how did you rate say Strauss, Cook, Gysberts, Maric, <insert other NQRs> at the time of their drafting, before they appeared at the club?

Yes.

All well and good.

But you said he had 11 contested marks. At a game that you said you went to. Which is not true.

I'm not sure how you can make that mistake.

Clearly you like to exaggerate.

Do you keep notes of every possession each time you watch a game? Easy mistake to make without accusing someone of exaggerating.

A contested mark is somewhat easier to recognise...

11 is ridiculous in a single game.

I questioned the poster because of this exaggerated number.

Although, 11 contested marks would be close to double the highest number anyone has had this season...

Maybe a little unfair on the poster because he is just repeating what the Australian U/18 coach said. But, I still can't believe he got away with it during the draft coverage, Dunstall was shocked (and impressed) when he said it. If he had of taken 11 contested marks in a half of a VFL game there is no way he would have made it to our pick. I have watched the game a couple of times and he fades out after the first quarter where he took 5 marks.

I do like the look of Weideman, my concerns with him last year were his tackling/pressure and the lack of possessions throughout his games.

From the bits and pieces I have seen online, his defensive work looks to have improved out of sight and it appears he is still working on finding more of the footy. It's hard to judge this from videos as you can't always tell how deep he is.

Clarry Choo - would be the best Asian player in the league within a few years.

(love me some Clayton - never seen a player so young with such poise while in the hard stuff). Its a gift to watch.

We finally got a pick 4 right!

Rising star 2016 winner?

I haven't seen anyone else come close to the consistency he is having this season.

Yeah but it wasn't his exaggerated number, he was parroting comments by Sanderson. I've watched games and wouldn't necessarily notice a stat like that and if someone said after the fact thats what it was I'd be inclined to believe it.

Loved how Clarry got up Merrett at one stage.  Was really looking forward to seeing what he would do if he kicked the goal.  Sadly, he missed, so I was really looking forward to seeing what Merrett did - not sure what big Sauce said but he certainly let Clarry know that he missed.

Bit of Old Bull v Young Bull, but was great to watch a kid with such confidence.

Anyone else cringe for a second when he gets the ball thinking it's McKenzie? Might take me a while to get used to it.

18 years old...its positively frightening how good he'll be in the coming years.  I don't think I've ever been so excited by a player's ability to handpass. Love that he's a country boy as well.

Everyone's putting their money on Petracca for the rising star but jeez, Oliver is surely going to come close.

How lucky are we to have two young beasts like Oliver and Petracca?

It's like having Wolverine and Captain America, throw in Viney as Iron man

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
