All aboard the Oliver Express

I'm amazed after yesterday's game that Petracca has come into favourite for the Rising Star, rather than Clarry. Don't get me wrong, Petracca was very good, but Oliver was simply unstoppable! If he keeps it up the award is his.

Plus, you'd think Harmes would be in the mix for a nomination this round, 26 disposals, 3 goals, 5 tackles. Not many kids gonna top that, and Clearance Allover has already been nominated.

It'll be an interesting Rising Star season, with those two, Mills, Weitering, Daniel, Parish, and a great many other young players having a real presence.

I think there's a fun (for us) contrast brewing between Petracca and Oliver - both looking seriously potent but with quite different 'outstanding' areas. Brad Johnson v Scott West? So glad we don't have to choose!

Oh, and for the trivia question - the only player with experience of positive win-loss at Melbourne was Lynden Dunn. Who missed yesterday!

Look what hes doing on the field, the way he he plays and the fact hes monstering 200 game veterans and breaking tackles with ease.

Now realize he is just 18 years old.

Maybe I need to remove the red and blue glasses, but I'm surprised he isn't getting hyped up more in the media. He's every bit as good as Cripps.

When he starts racking up 25+ every week, they'll be salivating over him as they do Cripps. I've heard quite a bit in the press about Oliver. The fact he is already mentioned as one of our important mids says it all really.

Awards like The Rising Star are irrelevant nowadays. Last year, in a leaner season, I could see the merit in getting excited about it (sort of), but I'm just happy we have Oliver and Petracca on our list. They are both going to be seriously good players and as I keep saying, this midfield we've built is going to be something special.

Big call. Cripps is an absolute gun. One thing in Oliver's favour is he'll end up being physically  bigger.

Cripps is 193cm (same height as Nick Reiwoldt) and 90kg... and is only 22. He is a physical beast

Hnmm Glen Lovett was pretty good but injury prone!

Rob Flower, Stan Alves, Greg Wells were all polished but Clarry is a diferent beast entirely!

Never seen a kid swho is so incredibly clean at such an early stage. He's Ablett-like. That cleanliness is what separates the great players.

But then he also always manages to get his arms free and nearly always hits a teammate in space. Just... baffling that he can be so good at this stage.

And as a postscript, I'm really beginning to regret my comments about Oliver playing like Voss and loudly referring to himself in the 3rd person as being the Vossy train in packs. Ol mate picket has really run with it, and I want everyone else to know I'm sorry.

Hey, youngsters...

love reading on demonland these days...

try not to post, but get provoked sometimes...

if this kid stays injury free for 5 years and becomes a midfield general, comparisons with past superstars may be appropriate...

at the top of the list has to be Ronald Dale Barassi...

Oliver looks to do it all very easily. Put in take out job for the rising star I would've thought. I have been backing him in since the GWS game, I am surprised the TAB haven't cut me off yet. Oliver should be a full time mid (no VFL time), cleanest inside player we have. Eases the burden on Jones, Viney and Tyson.

Blimey.

They made him stand  next to Loyd on the footy show and Cripps is bigger and has more physical presence

In my opinion he has the most potential out of all our young kids. He is probsbly already the cleanest mid in our team and loves to go in hard.

Maybe but I prefer to look at all our young kids who have huge potential. I don't need to name them, you know who they are. We are developing a team of potential champions, that is what encourages me. Also kids that are going to get used to winning and knowing what that entails. Not a team of kids that are used to losing and accepting defeat each week.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
