Footy Classified tonight.  Caro is trying to defend her stance that Clarko will be coaching Collingwood next year.  The other panelists challenged her on whether she has any actual sources on that stance.  Well, no, but the facts are that Clako is unsigned and Buckley's position has never been shakier and while Hawthorn refuse to announce a new contract for Clarko they are contributing to this sort of speculation.  That right there is quality journalism.  She takes one fact, some completely unrelated speculation and makes up a story to bignote herself.

Surely he's just as likely to be coaching the Tigers next year, given he's evidently booked in for a frontal lobotomy...

So I assume you will write her a full apology when it comes true?

She's just speculating and throwing it out as an unlikely possibility. She even threw Roosy's name in there at the end. Nothing to see here but an attention seeking 'star' journo.

On a more interesting subject, they just threw to the ad break saying they would be discussing the Demons' win next.  I think this is the first time I've heard it referred to as Melbourne winning rather than Collingwood dropping the game.  Nice that somebody is willing to admit we were at the ground.

And they gave Melbourne all of 20 sec of airtime. Tokenism.

Wonder if they'll bring up the two 'not 15' kicks near the end of the Saints vs Hawks game....

Maybe he wants to retire from coaching after this season?

Isn't he really sick?

Indeed! Today I've watched: Access All Areas and Footy Feed on AFL.com, AFL tonight, AFL 360, On the Couch on Fox and listening to SEN all day with little to no mention of our actual performance.

BBBLLLLEEEAAAGGGHHH, they just showed tomorrow's headlines ( The Australian mind you) - "Demons and Pies join queue  to play in China"

Give me a spell, bloody Port won't even play it as their home game!!! What a rort, don't do it!!!!!

She's not usually so heavy on speculation, which is why I don't mind Caro.

She's doing a fantastic job of negotiation for Clarko though. Not that they can't afford it but he can almost write whatever number he wants to get paid now. He's shipped off his best assistants so they can't even turf him for one of them either.

Maybe he's sick of winning so many premierships.

He's already climbed the mountain with one club, he should be up there with Barassi, Hafey, Sheedy, Jeans, Matthews.

And he has the chance to entrench a dynasty, if he hasn't already.

Can't see why Collingwood would be attractive to him.

I would've thought back-back-back premierships........plus a fourth, would have already earned them dynasty status.

Caro's sources are the best in the business. Rather than shoot the messenger why not talk more about the issue raised?

Much as I hate her for the Tanking saga , she is usually correct and you are correct about her sources.

She is rarely wrong so I wouldn't be surprised.

Caro  more than anyone put the blowtorch on Hird and Essendon and continues to do so, and for that I thank her.

I think it is interesting that you accuse Caro of overreaching  and yet you claim that Caro's stance is that Clarko will be coaching Collingwood next year.

I heard her speak and I just read her article and all  she is speculating on is the longevity of Buckley if Collingwoods continue and further suggested that Clarko is not Hawthorns coach until ink is on paper.

She has always been clever as she takes a series of facts ( or in many cases opinions) and points the way, allowing the reader to draw a conclusion, which is exactly what this poster has done without actually voicing that conclusion herself.

Finally we're not the headline...remember all those shows with more than enough time spent on the disaster that was Melbourne over the last number of years.

Let other clubs carry the can now, I know it would be good to get a bit more coverage but if the trade off is winning games then I'm happy with that.

Bottom line is if Buckley gets shafted, Eddie Everywhere will move heaven and earth to get a marquee coach, if for no other reason but to keep sponsorship up and Collingwood in the headlines.

Just to tidy up a loose end, on Footy Classified it was made clear that Clarkson would never take Dimma's job. They are not just coaches but extremely close friends. And I agree with Nutbean - Caro didn't say Clarkson would coach Collingwood. She said just enough for some people to think she said it (and put herself in the position of being able to say "you heard it hear first" if the unthinkable, one-in-a-million, highly unlikely set of circumstances actually happens).

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
