So what you're saying is we can start player bashing threads based on a misleading headline and that's totally ok?

That's exactly what I said.

Can't believe you've been back on the boards for about an hour and already I'm deleting your posts...

Edit: Back on topic please

The "sodd off then" part of the thread title is unnecessary.  At no point in the article did Watts say he wanted to leave and, in fact, spoke very strongly about staying.  The article title might have been misleading but BA gives the impression that Watts wants out, which is totally untrue.

So personal digs are allowed on Demonland now if they're from a mod?

Not always but in your case we'll make an exception.

Please stick to the rules and stop aggravating everyone else if you still want to be seen in the first half of the season.

I may have a different take to some, but I have no doubt that the club has no intention of busting a gut to re-sign him until they're convinced he can take his game consistently to another level.

He's started well, but won't want a dip in form or efforts in the contest.

It was clear in the article that he's not taking it for granted that the club will want to re-sign him.

That should make you happy, surely!

I'd agree with the poster who said that if the club wants him, he'll re-sign, and if it doesn't want him, or if they tell him he should look around, he'll explore free agency. If the club wants him, he won't leave. The only negotiation is his value. Which, as he also realises, is largely up to him.

Which should also make you happy.

I'm fairly sure that the AFL media department essentially run as an independent entity within the AFL.

Therefore they're no better than anyone else.

It's a bogus attempt to justify them as promotion instead of league run and to deflect blame for when they [censored] off the clubs (or the league itself).

They are paid for by the league and it's such a waste of money. The clubs could do their own promotion much better and the clubs, junior development or just giving it to the players would be a better way to spend the money.

I discussed this thread with relevant posters, and told the usual suspects to just ignore me once they started harassing again.

The response has been personal insults from moderators. How is this ok? Incredibly poor form.

Article of AFL app states Watts was keen to be part of Melbourne's future but wants to explore his free agency options. Here's an idea, try performing consistently for, I don't know let's say 3 games in a row. Sorry Jumbo but Watts your free to go, you can take Grimes and Garland with you. Then and only then will the list be fully turned over.

If you look at the interview, what he actually said is he "wouldn't want to be anywhere else."

Such click bait, reading the article says more about him wanting to stay at Melbourne. Typical whirlwind in a tea cup when it comes to everyone's favourite whipping boy

He's not my favourite whipping boy.

I rate him. Have always wanted him to play his entire career at this club.

Your assertion is inaccurate.

I'd love Watts to have his best year, kick 30+ goals and become a dangerous roaming tall that can help this club win a premiership.

It's a make or break year and while I genuinely expect it to be his best I'm not confident he can consistently elevate his game.  It's all between the ears, so I remain hopeful.

The intent he's showed in the first two practice games is a minimum benchmark for Watts.

I think he'll have a cracker year, re-sign and ultimately be a one club player.

Hows he going to go when the opposition is really hard at it I wonder.

One handed show pony, but he looks great on footy cards and is so hot these last two (thats 2) weeks thatthey have him back on the TV news.....good old MFC management

I really like how you edited your post for spelling and deliberately misspelt spelling. At least i hope it was deliberate.

Note: the quote is IRW not ProDee (he would neither make a joke or misspell a word). Weird stuff happening on DL

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
