I know that just because we were less than impressive in a 10 goal win and the Pies were impressive against the Cats that it means absolutely nothing when the two teams play each other a fortnight later. To say the Pies will smash us is a silly comment.

I agree. The Pies especially haven't shown a lot of consistency this year. Sure, they might beat us, but I wouldn't confidently punt on that. In fact, If I were to punt on this game I would back us in (against Collingwood). If you were to factor in the NAB cup we would be the more consistent side. How anyone could confidently tip Collingwood is beyond me.

You don't know much about footy if you think the matchup will be the same. Collingwood are a completely different side than 1 mth ago. We would've got beaten by 15 other sides last weekend

And we have only added Petracca, Stretch, ANBHunt, Garlett, Newton, O. McD and Vince, so l guess that we'll get smashed by the 'new-look Pies', especially when we also bring in Oliver and Trenners!

I'll put 10g on it. Third man up may just be Jeremy Howe who's confidence would be sky high after 2 good games in a row, something he previously couldn't do in 99 games with the dees.

Wherever jack returns, bank on him being 100% fit and ready to go. Roos does not bring in players who aren't ready physically or mentally. He doesn't have to with adequate depth this year.

If he is fit enough then I hope he plays. He's a versatile player and it will be great to see him back in red and blue. He could play midfield, half forward or half back. With Viney out for a few weeks and a few youngsters struggling, hopefully he gets a gig.

OMac last week, Tyson this week definitely wasn't 100%. Lumumba played, was horrible, and then was found to be suffering concussion and has since missed 3-4 weeks.  I appreciate the sentiment but I don't think it's correct.

Especially with no Taylor Adams, Fasola or Moore for up to a month.

that hurts them far more than no Viney hurts us.

Just because a player doesn't play well, doesn't mean they are injured.

Playing this week according to Triple M.   Nothing official from the club yet though.

Lets just hope that he has a good one and can hold his place long term. Go Jack - Go Dee's

How was omac not ready? Lumumba has played 200+ games, if he tells coaching staff he is ready, they believe him. Difference between playing poorly and not being ready.

Spewing from a personal pov if it is this weekend. I've said from the start that I would travel anywhere to see his return but with my young blokes Auskick gala day this weekend which he's been looking forward to, I'll unfortunately have to switch priorities and make it over for the QB game.

Will get just as much joy watching it on the Tele.

OMac may not have been injured but IMO he hasn't been ready physically or mentally.  This has been discussed at length on other threads.

Roos said after the St Kilda game that he (Lumumba) was suffering from concussion and probably shouldn't have played.

Tyson's form had been improving before he picked up a virus.  Last week was either an incredible drop in form or he was still suffering the affects of the illness.  I'd back the latter.

Also Roosy has acknowledged a few times now that they should have dropped some of the younger guys because they were sore and/or tired.  In effect they weren't 100%.

I think they'd be quite reluctant to rest Tyson given Viney is already out, but otherwise i think he definitely needs a week off.

Would be amazing to see Trenners back, but gee I'd hate to see him come back in a game where we get smashed.Hold him backs week. QB comeback in front of a massive crowd, we roll the Pies and Wattsy kicks 7. That would be fitting

How about we not try to manufacture scenarios and just play the bloke if he's ready and makes us better ?

And also allow him to get re-acquainted against the best competition in the league. No point debuting him against Collingwood who will probably be softer than Hawthorn.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
