We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Speaking of Mitch White what has happened to him? The reports were that he was having a fantastic pre season and now has suddenly vanished?

Agree good start for Wagner. I still have Mitch White as the first backup for a half back spot behind Lamumba, Salem and Grimes

I thought Wagner was far more impressive than Hunt on Saturday.  Yes, he does need some more size, but has the required frame to do that.  Just seemed to have time and composure, some creativity too.

For a player who got 14 possessions today which included 5 changers and cost us at least two goals I thought he did ok. I really liked the way he didn't drop his head. He kept going, looking for players on the move and eventually a few things worked for him. Despite looking like he was plucked from the Sound of Music cast he also seems to have a fair bit of toughness about him. Another competitor.

Like most here I don't believe he is in contention for a round one spot but perhaps will prove more than handy long term

Agree 100% with your comments...

I don't know how many times today I got him mixed up with Jack Watts from certain angles.... I must have been channeling Sandy Roberts!

Plenty to work with....

The old man started watching in the 2nd half and thought Wagner was great. It's good to see him bounce back from a bad first half.

I think the fumbles and disposal issues will sort themselves out with more opportunities and less nerves. He can kick a footy, just a matter of doing it at AFL level.

Defensive ability and speed are my concerns. I think needs one or the other to be valuable. But he can get more game speed by being more confident.

No issue with the way he attacked the contest once, especially once he started to win a few. That's a big positive.

Happy to be proven wrong down the track but he doesn't look AFL standard to me.

I think you are too hard.

interesting question--he is a rookie isn't he? Which of the rookies will be elevated? At this stage I would prefer Wagner

This is his first full AFL game and i put down his first half to simply to nerves adjustment to the tempo.

In the 2nd half he was alot better and seemed to adjust well because his awarness and kicking was a whole lot better. Has a crack which is good to see.

Can't see him being in round 1 though. Needs time at Casey.

he's developing nicely, just needs more time. i can see good things down the road. bagging him at this stage is just classic mfcss

consider where he has come from. neafl, no tac academies, rookie listed, limited pre-season (only coming in after draft), change of state etc

worth a re-look at his draft highlights video

Wagner is renowned for picking up the tempo in the last Stanza.

Yeah, one can't expect him to be AVB.

Big chance to play HBF though for us, we don't have an abundance of good kicks coming off the backline.

If Salem gets injured...

So with a LARGE sample size of 5 games.  I'm going to make a big call that this guy will be as important as any player going forward.

In wins against Collingwood, Tigers and GC, he's had 13, 11, 12 kicks.

In losses against North and Saints, he's had 3 and 6 kicks.

Wagner is a deadly kick and usually sets up plays coming off half back.  My prediction.  If he gets 10+ kicks a game and maintains a disposal efficiency of > 75% I think we'll win more than we do lose.

I plan on monitoring this and seeing how accurate it is.  I think the AFL world is yet to realise how good this kid really is.

I find it weird that for a guy who seems incredibly composed and able to make smart decisions under extreme heat, he still makes some surprisingly bad ones too.

Love seeing him out there though and I reckon it's just the pace of the game that he is still getting used to so hopefully we'll see more consistency in the quality of his decision making and target hitting ability.  Looks to have a really great blend of attributes.

Both Hunt and Wagner whilst young and inexperienced have definitely given the backline a 'fresh' look and feel.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
