Mick Malthouse's love of Daisy Thomas clouded his views of an injury riddled player, past his best. And Carlton are paying for that decision big time. There are probably other players out there that offer more than Melksham, and could come at a lesser cost. Melksham's CV isn't impressive, and that's what most on here are judging him on.

For zero cost practically, and he filled a hole.

Not exactly an epic stuff up.

Every selection that doesn't turn out comes at a cost. There are at least a dozen players selected after Sellar that are making an impact at AFL level, including Lachie Neale and Aaron Hall. Goodwin isn't necessarily in the best position to assess Melksham's worth compared to other players out there.

Exactly the attitude of Carlton supporters to Garlett last year.

Big difference: Jeff wasn't under threat of a very long suspension by WADA.

To take a risk on a player with that potential down (to zero) side he would have to have as an upside the potential to be a top 10 MFC regular, not a fringe / depth player.

Yeah! What would that buffoon Goodwin know if he likes Melksham? It's not like he's coached with him or worked closely with him for several years or anything. We fans clearly know more than that idiot and his terrible judgement.

Was he close to him when he was taking all those injections too?

Is that what we are basing player movements on now? What tie they are wearing?

Good lord.

was he smiling ?

It would go down as one of the greatest ever trading blunders in the history of professional sport if we pick him up.

Not so certain about this. His statistics for his first 3 seasons were excellent. Perhaps he has become disillusioned.

I wouldn't. We should be aiming higher. Melksham is the bag of peanuts that we should be avoiding. Get proper (read elite) compensation for Watts, otherwise he stays. The same goes for Howe really.

It' been awhile since I've been on demonland AF (currently in Europe).

But all I have to do is read your posts and feel relieved there are still fellow Demon supporters talking sense, pparticularly during this time of year. Thank you!

9th in their B&F, but I'm still not a fan.

Many others I'd rather before him.

Posted

How many games did Melksham play, and where did he finish in the B&F for the team that finished 2 spots below us?

So I guess Zaharakis is a no as well

In understanding how this sits; and for the moment we'll disregard looming sanctions but ask yourselves the following :

Why would we want anyone Essendon didn't want to keep ?

Has Essendon said that? Haven't they already offered him a contract?

That and of itself isnt cut and dried id suggest. Theyre not going out of their way to ensure he stays.

Sounds like " yeah ..you can go"

If they didnt want to keep him they wouldn't offer him a contract, they would just trade him.

Mad keen Bomber mate is very happy to see him leave EFC. Says he is a very frustrating footballer. Acknowledged that he was tough as nails and good in the contest but let down by his deficiencies that include:

-very inconsistent from week to week

-poor decision maker

-turnover king

-poor disposal

-dumb as d......(gratuitous)

Given comments that the Demons want a team that play hard contested footy, this selection would make sense. However, the fact that he could not get a regular game at EFC and that they are happy to let him go says a lot about his future value. His alleged deficiencies are a concern particularly if we end up trading a guy with elite disposal skills.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
