Expected a little bit more from Viv but I think the coaches have been a little unfair on him. I'm glad he's finally being given a consistent run at it.

Really liked his game last week. If he can keep that up he is a definite to stay.

I'm not sure the coaches are being unfair but have seen development issues that need addressing before he comes a regular.

Wouldn't write him off by any means.

One thing i notice significantly was at times he showed real break away pace. Something i haven't seen from him before. I think he will play the rest of the year out and kept on for next year. Personally i think he has been unfairly treated this year compared to others.

Always been a fan of Viv.

Finally got a decent run in the team. Largely disappointed but was good last week, and as mentioned above, suprised with his breakaway speed. Interesting three games ahead for him.

The fact he is getting a run ahead of others shows that Roos hasn't made his mind up on him yet. If he is still being given a run in the side when he has largely disappointed over the last month suggests that he may yet get another contract at year's end.

Might be as much a case though that other's cards are now marked.

I reckon Viv could turn out as an ok meat and three vegs workmanlike mid. Not a star just a week in week out kinda player. Hasnt played as i had hoped. ( he's not alone there though )

That is about the max. I see as well bb.

I had hopes for Michie but he has done very little so far. Needs to consistently get 20+ touches. Has 3 weeks to make an impression or see you later.

I think a player like Michie who has no stand-out assets needs to get his hands on it a lot more to impact games and keep his spot.

I took the stats for this season and adjusted them for time on ground. By multiplying the number of games by the time on ground percentage you get actual games played. This in my opinion makes them more comparable. I then divided each players stats from the MFC website for the following stats (limited to 11 categories by the MFC stats). Michie ranks in the top 18 for all but one. His stats (average per game) on an adjusted basis are;

Disposals 20.56 ranking 10th

Disposal Effectiveness 72% (18th)

Clangers 1.5 (4th Lowest)

Marks 3.74 (18th)

Clearances 2.78 (14th)

Tackles 2.91 (23rd)

1% 1.28 (15th)

Inside 50 3.74 (7th)

Goal Assists 1.25 (1st)

Time on ground 60.2% 3rd lowest

I think he is worth persevering with and he has improved each week since he was brought back into the team. It is amazing what a bit of certainty and confidence can do for a player.

Happy to provide the same stats for your favorite player. M Jones has some interesting ones.

Think he's a 50/50 prospect at getting a contract for 2016. And if he does, I only expect it to be 1 year.

I mentioned this a month ago but worth repeating. I attended a function prior to the Saints game where Josh Mahoney got up and spoke about a few players. It was Michies first game back for months from memory. Mahoney said he had been a class above at VFL level for 4 or 5 weeks and we now need to give him a chance to see what he can do in the seniors for a few weeks.

I got the feeling from that discussion that he was told unless he shows something that his career could be shot.

5 weeks later he is still in the 22 and last week was possibly his best game at the club. He is worth perservering with for at least another year i would have thought.

I'm pretty happy with Viv to be honest. He's not spectacular, but now that he's being given a run of games we're getting a better idea of what he can do. He's been steadily improving his output, which is nice. He isn't hitting the scoreboard directly, but he gets a lot of score assists and his passes to the forwards are as good as anyone in the side. He also makes very few bad errors. His turnovers tend to be in close quarters when he's taken the ball under pressure rather than in open play like so many of our players. The big surprise for me has been his poor tackling, given that this was one of his selling points when we first made a play for him. I expected much better defensive work from him.

Might be one of the lucky ones who gets a one year extension ahead of a shallow draft. Like many I was hoping for more from a player that Freo "didn't want to lose".

Needs a good last few weeks to play on in 2016.

Why would we keep such an average player on the list. Makes no sense.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
