Round 14 - Non MFC Games

We should beat the bombers by 10 goals

Just like we were supposed to beat their top-up side by 10 goals in March. We didn't.

We should beat them but I'm already nervous and it's only Sunday evening. Normally the nerves don't set in until game day. The Bombers will have a point to prove and we are coming back from Darwin but we should still get them with the right mindset.

One thing is for sure, if they beat us, Demonland will go into meltdown.

The MFC should make Road Kill out of Essendrug next week

SHOULD.

If we don't then the club is still in the same place it was 2 years ago

I'm not sure about that. Win/Lose/Draw we will be in a better place than 2013. The Bombers beat us by 150 points that year don't forget. Losing the game will undo most of the good work of winning in Geelong but the pitchforks don't need to come out. Hawthorn beat them by only 5 goals last week.

True, although I think you would agree SS that we are a far different side to the one that got rolled by their top up players in March.

I am with you though in that I'm already VERY nervous about next weekends game. I don't even know if I'll be able to watch it, might be a 'check the scores on the phone' job for me.

Is it me or did Jobe Watson looked a tad overweight..? I must admit thought he looked mentally spent and seemed to be carrying an injury so hopefully he is in doubt next week.

Said the same thing today about Jobe's weight. I know he always is a bit of a barge arse, but looked to be carrying more than normal.

Hawks are only interested in the four points at this stage of the season. They only smash us because we let them. Edited by america de cali

Road Kill is what we must achieve...

The cheats are psychologically finished

Should, if they play the same way they did today and we play better than we did Saturday night.

But, we usually lose these so brace yourself...

If they play as they did and we play as we did at Cattery we should beat the 186 hoodoo.

Two ifs though.

Side effects of something, or of the withdrawal of something?

Not sure if that is true given their need to get into the top 2 and WCE's sightly higher percentage at the moment.

Well, yes and no. They do need the percentage but top sides pace themselves and don't want to peak too early. They still have nine games to go. The percentage difference can easily be made up. At this stage accumulating points is more important. Being gifted percentage by teams on the bottom with little incentive to play out the season is going to happen more often later in the season.

Yes it is yes and no - not clear as I said.

Obviously points are more (indeed most) important. But I don't see that making up percentage difference can easily be made up later in the season as you say. You need to get those extra 'for' vs 'against' points whenever you can. Leaving it to a last minute rush can put unnecessary pressure on the team close to the end of a season, eg. can't rest a top player, or must hammer a mid-level club with a tiring effort when all that might otherwise be needed is a comfortable win.

Nor do I think it is clear that not hammering a weak club early in the season allows a club to pace itself. For example, once a top club starts hammering a weak club, the last quarter often turns into a relatively relaxing training drill.

To be entirely honest I can't see us beating Essendon. They'll be looking to bounce back after a horrid month, and we'll have just played in Darwin. They've still won 4 games this year don't forget including against the Hawks and almost beat the Swans. They beat the Saints earlier in the season so yesterday was a bit of an anomaly. They are no easy beats imo. There are so many variables. Which Essendon will show up? Which Melbourne will show up? Is a mentally drained Essendon better than a Melbourne team having an off day? Is a Melbourne team on a good day better than Essendon on a good day?

It could go either way. Yesterday is irrelevant. TBH I'm going to tip the Bombers.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
