Agree 100% about Hogan's set shots. In the long run, that action needs to be rectified to get the most goals in his career. I don't GAF how many he kicks at training. Run in a straight line towards goal and keep the ball steady, follow it onto your boot. Only Buddy can now do anything different and get away with it on a regular basis. Melb needs Dunstall or someone similar to work with him to get it right while he is still very young. Other than that, he's a fantastic prospect.

I would have thought set shot action would be the easiest skill to address at any stage of a career, since it is a slow, deliberate thing that the player can think through. Russell Robertson springs to mind as one who turned this aspect of his game around.

Jesse and Jeff both have homework to do in this regard.

It hurts dames is finished games gone past him,last week we did not have enough forward 50, this week we have 40+ forward entries that's enough forward entries to score did dames even have a mark inside 50, his never done enough his whole career, what's his best goal hall 30 in a season, that what was needs biggest problem he rated dawes to high, so much for slimming down, why can't he find space in the 50 take a mark, he must be dropped to make a statement, the only problem it seems is that we have no other forwards on the list, every team has two or three, there is not much more the club can do about it, gws have about 6on their list good coast have 4 to six aswell i don't see where they are going to came by any time soon.

OK, for once I agree with the Watts comments. We were well ahead in the first quarter and then he dropped two uncontested marks to concede a goal followed by a centre clearance goal and suddenly we're level at the break. That's just not acceptable, especially the second one where he was in a paddock and had nothing resembling pressure around him. He made some effort to redeem himself in the second when he won the ball against two opponents off a poor kick and set up a goal to Hogan, but that still left him owing us one and he really did stuff-all for the rest of the game.

The other killer was of course our goal-kicking. Both Garlett and Hogan missed shots they should be able to nail with their eyes closed. Garlett had six scoring shots for 2 goals four. Hogan had 2 goals 2. Both of Hogan's goals were from general play while he stuffed the easiest set shot. If both of them had kicked the goals they should have then the margin is all but erased. Others also could have done better on the scoreboard, but those two stand out due to the number of shots they had.

Positives of course are that if you discount the poor conversion rate we basically broke even in horrible conditions against one of the current top sides. We won the contested possessions, big tick. Only barely lost clearances. Jamar and Jacobs had a pretty epic battle in the ruck, sadly I think Jacobs took it on points.

Overall I found it kind of heartbreaking to watch them battling to a draw all over the ground and watching goal after goal go through for the opposition while we kept scoring points. Most of the side did their job brilliantly but it was just a little composure and polish in front of goal that really hurt us.

Also, TMac is just awesome.

I didn't think Dawes was too bad today, quite often he was against two and at times three and not once was out marked.

Yes he needed to do a little more, but I thought he was far from our worst.

I've always admired Dangerfield and still do but thought his acting today was embarrassing; the sort of stuff you see on the soccer field. I'm not surprised the umpires basically ignored him.

From the game here in Adelaide a few differing views to those who watched on TV it seems. We very much could have won this but needed to take our chances, we did last year, we didn't this year. Frost, Garlett x2 and hogan misses from set shots were awful. We needed them.

Hogan is a gun, he can takes marks against two. Wow it's great to have him. McDonald was very good also, walker got a couple cheap.

I though Tyson and Newton were pretty ordinary. Jones was ok, Vberg ok, H pretty good. Umpires cost us a few. Bernie was tough at it and made Dangerfield suffer a tough day, he did little. Sloan their best.

Dawes did a lot of good today, but it was almost always him vs 2-3 in a contest he needed to nullify. He is very good at that. He is very poor at rewarding himself with a cheap goal and mark.

Watts two dropped marks were aweful, they really cost us some mojo, and got the crowd up and about again. We went hard, had a crack......but after Hogans miss the score was 6.11 vs 11.6.....enough said.

We didn't switch enough or play fast when we could. And when we had them out the back due to some great defence work we stuffed the long kick forward too often.

If Garlett can kick straight he will be gold.

Good effort, really good......but I'd like the win. We should beat the tigers next week.

Jesse's is mechanics. Jeffy's is mental. It's nice to talk about improving goal kicking now that we have people down there that create opportunities. Dawes is never going to be a good mark but he rarely loses an aerial contest, most of them when he is outnumbered. I think people under rate this facet of his game.

Before the season we all stated we wanted to see games that we fought out & contested....even if we lost.. Last year we played a crows team not switched on...this time we played a team that was flying ...We had a great crack today & there were some great signs. Lots of players made silly mistakes but I for one am not going to put s##t on anyone. They all have a crack ....they are improving & they will all get better. Scoreboard flattered Adelaide.....Frost out so no relief really for Jamar....one rotation short....basically the harder bodies....home ground & weather plus some more skilful players (Sloane & Thompson) beat us. But we will get those match winning midfielder 's I am positive about that. Don't individualise & criticise....those who are down will be replaced by a coaching panel far more knowledgeable & less emotive than us. I too get frustrated by a lot of those errors you talk about but this time I don't feel embarrassed but hopeful .....oh & by the way those posters who moaned about bernie talking about his crows mates.....he was mongrel personified!!!

He got away with a few as well. Dropped a couple cold when tackled and there were also a couple of very dubious handballs that he supposedly got away.

how good was the whole team effort though to actually fight and care about the jumper for a change there was heart today that was the biggest thing. After last week i thought it was 2012 again but today you can see they actually give a [censored] and running to back each other up in the melee etc and TMac and Vinces work on their opponents was great to watch. TMac is better than Frawley ever was even at his best. Does everything Frawley can do plus more.

Its really only been last week's second half that was the old Melbourne everything else has been encouraging.

The bottom line is that if we bring that sort of effort every week then we will win more games than we did last season. We did it against GC and won and then did it against the Crows and, had we kicked straight and taken our chances, it might have been a different story. We only brought it for a half last week and we all know what happened there.

We are a genuine chance against Richmond on Friday night IF we play like this. Today is further proof of that. We ARE getting better, we are just taking the longer way to get there on a consistent basis.

When you look at the line up now, we have more talent than battlers, which is a big positive.

We absolutely need more midfield depth, and the likes of Brayshaw (who was excellent) and Petrecca and ANB and Stretch will help, not to mention Viney.

I thought it really showed today as the rain came down who is a smart mature player, and who has no idea. Hogan was so smart with his ball use, and it really stood out when lots of other big men were trying to goal for unrealistic marks, and midfielders trying to pin point passes. He is going to be some sort of a player, especially when he learns to straighten his goal kicking (his run up is a bit silly to me).

Unlike last week, we fought hard for most of the game, which is all you can ask for right now.

The talent is there, but we need more of it in the middle of the ground. It would also help if Hogan wasn't the only tall forward who could take a goddamn mark. Dawes and Watts were woeful.

Dawes is the highest paid decoy going around!

Biggest negative for me is that after next week, we are heading towards an awful stretch of matches which we are little to no chance of winning.

And the Watts-nesia is back - how exactly is he responsible for the second goal after his eff up? We decry a weak minded team and yet we allow them to sacrifice their resident scape goat to avoid blame for a concentration lapse that led to the second goal. Lumumba didn't read the play, Vince was too busy trying to pull a free, etc.

I would have pulled Watts and Dawes if I knew it was going to rain so heavily, what did Roos think he was going to get from these two - Watts is the prototype for 'dry weather footy' and Dawes struggles to take a grab as it is; moisture isn't going to help him...

Aside from these two distractions - we were tough and solid and relentless and mistake prone and lacking polish.

I am starting to begin to like the season again - assuming we come out on ANZAC day eve with the identity we have had for 10 quarters of this year: fighters.

Really annoyed by the write up on the game on the AFL website, obviously a crow supporter, I thought we had a real dip today and the margin flattered the Crows, however and a big however, we rreally should have won that, players went missing in crucial times to point where I thought they must be injured, I point the finger squarely at watts, Vanders, kent, Tyson, Salem....It was left to the usual warriers, McD, Garland,Jones et al. Stop the drift in concentration and we win that one...Man that was really winable.

Too often there is no one crumbing near him when he contests. Usually out on the flank one on one and the next nearest player is invariably from the other side
