The game might not have been won or lost at selection, but Roos insistence to add two players that didn't fight their way into the ones (as he's bleated on about for over a year) most definitely didn't help our cause today.

you are right about fast ball movement but in the third term today their mids lost their opponents with ease and Shiel, Wilson and Sculldog just blew their opponent away time and time again. Half the time Kent was running after Shiel or others faster than their opponent.

i didnt see the contested possession stat u quoted but to me it looked like a total inside lack of midfield pressure and then an unopposed spreading/running mid time after time in the third term.

You cant tackle someone if your ten metres behind and slowing...

Ben Newton has great goal sense and will kick more than his fair share this year.

Jesse has now pulled in 15 marks and booted 4 goals in just two outings.

And Tommy hardly put a foot wrong all day.

Salem and Viney were solid but the rest seemed lethargic and disinterested.

There's just no excuse for lack of effort and intensity.

Very disappointing performance, but it doesn't mean last week was a false dawn.

We'll have our moments this year, and take it up to some good teams, but there'll be set-backs and flashbacks along the way too as we get our shite together.

Vince had 2 good games in the magoos and is in our best 22. He may have been brought back a week early but the vast majority of us were happy for him to play this week. He looked short of a run but he'll get better with games. Maybe having an extra one at Casey might have been more beneficial but I think it's harsh to say he didn't fight his way into the side.

Dawes is the funny one in all of this. I think he gets a little unfairly maligned, as there were far worse than him out there today. A forward is dependent on the delivery he gets from the midfield, which after about the 15 minute mark of the second term was non-existant. We have other things to work on before we cast our gaze on Dawes.

today we were fantastic early, but went to water easily. & our new found discipline dropped off. dis we think its all happening for us, or were we sore, or did we start looking ahead to next week? or even all of the above?

whatever happened its not good enough, & sides like that, will get smashed when they lose intensity.

I may be going out on limb here but IMO we were out-coached.

If we didn't go in too tall we were certainly too tall when Tomlison went off and Wilson came on in the 2nd qtr.

They then played outside footy while we stuck to inside footy. Momentum swing started here.

But by the end of the 2nd qtr we should've figured out that wasn't working.

3rd qtr we stuck to inisde game. Momentum swing becomes an avalanche.

4th qtr players and coaches looked anaesthetized.

2nd half coaches box options:

- taking off a tall for Brayshaw

- a bit of old fashioned flooding the backline to stop the momentum

- putting speedy player(s) behind the ball. (Watts & Garlett maybe, God knows they were wasted in the fwd line).

- heavily tagging the more damaging GWS players (a bit of a heavy knock to them maybe )

- getting our players to feed off Mummy

- blocking the exits from the stoppages

- etc

These wouldn't have saved the game but would have saved the massive embarrassment, loss of confidence, belief etc. Added to the selection of players underdone/recovering (Howe, Vince, Dawes, Kent - head knock last week) the coaches had a poor round 2.

I hold coaches as responsible as the players.

Dunn was almost AA form before he signed his last contract. His form has dropped markedly from the very first game after he signed. Been about average to OK since then.

I tend to agree. Whilst obviously you can only work with what you have, and many served up a poor quality lacklustee performance, im amazed more wasnt done to stem the tide.

There is a lot of Dawes bashing in here but I think it's also worth looking at his role and delivery.

He's basically the Malthouse/Neeld era bomb down the line get out of jail card. Our players lack the confidence and skill to move the ball in other ways, and when the momentum is against us they don't want to make a mistake, so they take the safest option - around the boundary to Dawes. Opposition clubs can see it a mile away.

It's really obvious, it's really not working, and he's not dangerous enough as a player to be able to execute on it.

He does work very hard, but structurally it's an antiquated game style that's a lazy option for our team given our confidence levels.

The mids cannot not lose- they lost last week but we still won

We are not fit.

We are mentally weak.

We are SLOW.

I suspect Jamar and Cross have only this season left .

Don't agree with that Dockett. The run-down tackle is very rare; most tackles occur when the players are in close. If there's a need to catch them, you have already missed the boat for the tackle.

How do you explain the low numbers of inside 50's this week opposed to last week? Even when we were in front the inside 50s were level. Yes we were beaten in the midfield, maybe that was because we were out numbered, out worked & out run due to us having too many talls & not enough mids.

The backline is not the problem - they restricted GWS to 2 goals in the first half despite more entries into the forward 50.

Our problem started wen Jamar got torn apart by Mumford and fed their star studded midfield.

Frost is not a second ruckman or a forward - he belongs in the backline.

We still rely on Jones too much in the midfield and if he has a stinker we're gone.

Garletts and Kents inability to convert set shots is also a concern.

Not sure what Dawes brings to the table. He can't mark, can't ruck and doesn't kick many goals. Can't believe what he gets paid for the little he contributes.

Another long season ahead I fear.
