it was after the Prince goal and we led by 18 when that fumble happened. 8:15 remaining

Correct. When Ablett fumbled it was 95-77 with about 8 minutes left. Melbourne took it down the length of the ground, Hogan marked and made it 101-77.

To be honest, seeing him crash that pack and get up quicker than the GC players brought me as much joy as his goals. Reminded me of Neitz and Schwartz in their day.

...

He will put in a game this year that will have the rest of the competition shaking in their boots.

And it wasn't as if the two defenders were slouches either. Malceski & Broughton.

And to me the most pleasing thing about Hogan's game on Sat was that it was "just a game". He really just did the good things well. He didn't star, he didn't extend himself, he didn't do anything amazing, he wasn't BOG.

That's all yet to come!!

He didn't star, but I thought he was terrific.

15 possessions, 7 marks - 4 contested, splitting packs, goals ... all on their best defender in his first game as a key forward is exceptional.

In fact, he took the second most contested marks for the entire round along with Nick Riewoldt (just one behind the leader on 5).

It wasn't "just a game".

Was a fantastic debut

I think there were some supporters who literally expected him to kick 8 and wouldn't accept anything less

Yes, you can't help drawing the comparison with David Neitz. His interview on Open Mike I watched recently (from July 2014) and he talked briefly about when he started. I think Hogan will be the closest thing we will see to Neitz, and I for one can think of no greater praise.

Now all we need to do is to turn Chris Dawes into the footballer David Schwartz....mmm - don't think so somehow!

It was about the best debut I could have possibly hoped for

Had he played half as well, I still would have been happy

Finally got to watch the replay....

I'm going to have an early crack at our B&F top 5...

1. Dom Tyson - absolutely all class. Will be our next AA.

2. Nathan Jones - Obvs.

3. Tom McDonald - looks so much more assured when the ball isn't coming in a thousand times a game, and he has some runners to give it to in space

4. Lynden Dunn - I was a big hater for many, many years, but gee has he turned it around.

5. Jack Watts - this year's the year. So, so damaging, all over the ground.

And I can't even fit in Jesse Hogan. He was spectacular on the weekend. What a debut. When he is 24-27, he is going to be a complete and utter monster.

Despite being a big fan, I would probably have Lamumba in there ahead of Dunn... and I would not be in the least bit surprised if Nathan Jones makes AA this year (providing he has a another season like last year).

HL was really good on the weekend, when teams try to tag him out of the match will be interesting to see how we adapt and what drive fwd we lose if he is contained.

His running and off the ball stuff is fantastic. Not huge stats but his influence is big,,

To all those doubters. Both Viney and Jamar made the team of the week.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-04-08/team-of-the-week-round-one

We do tend to under rate ruckmen sometimes ...

If a team doesn't have a good one, that team can get towelled up (e.g Richmond against us last year when Maric was out) Jamar smashed Hampson which subsequently created a decent advantage our way in the clearances.

Mark is another player who has responded to Roos' coaching.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
