Fantastic.

The environment that Roos and co have created is no doubt light years from the previous era. Dare I say we might be starting to look like a professional club again.

Jesse, JKH, Salem, Brayshaw.. have all re-signed at least a year in advance of their first contacts expiring. Probably missing a couple there too. (Kent?)

Another one signed. This bodes very well for the club going forward - love that he had no hesitation in signing on and already loves the club. Quotes like those can only put a smile on your face.

A very high quality player who comes across as a fantastic kid. I think this kid has all the tools to become our best recruit in over a decade.

Am thrilled he has signed on, a great show of faith in the direction our club is heading.

Never in doubt, very popular member of the squad as well, really happy, only sad thing is him being Arsenal supporter, looked absolutely shattered this morning at training, after their exit from Europe, had a lot of sympathy for him, NOT

I'd hate to play Devils' advocate, but in light of the last AFL trade period; do contracts even matter anymore?

Paying out one year of a draftee's salary when you're as desperate as the bulldogs were is one thing, paying out two or three years of an up and coming player on their second contract is something else entirely.

Edit: Great news.

In this case, yes. He's a Victorian playing for the Victorian team so there is no excuse to "return home" whereby the club would feel compelled to release him

Are you trying to start one of those flame war things? If so, I'll happily oblige.

In the meantime, congratulations Christian. This is what hope feels like.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it does feel a bit 2010ish at the moment. I remember we had a lot of our young brigade (I remember Chip signed his last 3 year extension one year out from the expiry of his previous deal) sign en masse back then.
That being said, this does show the environment as of now is relatively positive. We need to keep these blokes together as a core group.

I agree, Melbourne re-signing young high draft picks (excluding Scully) has never been an issue in the past.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
