No one is baying for his blood. Viney was good tonight, he makes the odd error and unfortunately made one at the wrong time.

Hopefully he learns from it, he is a little bit rushed and probably needs to work on his composure - and decision making.

Mate I love Viney. However it is what it is and he played an absolute shocker tonight.

He will bounce back though. I am really confident of that.

But for you to say Viney was good tonight means you either didn't watch the game, you are highly delusional or you are [censored] (or a combination of the three).

Well it finally happened we lost to a vfl side.

During the last numerous bad seasons I sometimes thought we couldn't beat a vfl side.

Well now it's happened.

Congrats dees we have gone lower than I actually thought we could and we have been very low at times.

Just back from the game.

If you can't kick you won't play in my team.

Words similar to that by the coach.

If that is true. Then Viney, Toumpas Grimes and Matt Jones to miss out.

It wasn't just Vineys only turn over. He makes bad decisions.

Toumpas has developed grimes syndrome.

Grimes should be banned from kicking out. He must be taught not to float the ball, probably too late for that.

Matt jones just never hits a target.

Also Bail is just not up to it.

The disposal all over the ground was abysmal.

If they were hoping for a good game to increase the membership, I reckon they blew 5000 potential members tonight.

I'm a Jack Viney fan, and he'll be great I'm sure, but honestly even before that gift turnover to lose the game, he was TERRIBLE. Miskicks, getting pinged for HTB, not being able to pick the right or quick option. He had an old fashioned shocker the poor bugger.

I thought Viney was ok tonight. He does make the odd error, but he is a young kid. We expect too much from these kids too soon.

I think Viney needs to work on his composure, decision making and needs to time his run better. I think Jack needs to find 2 levels to his running game, he is bit full bore.

He needs to sometimes tread water, then go full noise. The fact that he goes just one pace means that his inside game suffers, his decision making suffers, and he becomes a one dimensional player. If he works on his flaws and corrects his running game, he'll be an elite level player. I think he will reach that level.

For crying out loud! Poor Viney has one shocker and everyone's out for blood. I would rather he get it out of the way tonight. The Kid bleeds for our Club, and we have you naysayers baying for his blood! Don't you think he would be hardest on himself. If we know anything about Jack, he will come out Rnd 1 and tear the Suns a new one. YOU MARK MY WORDS.

This is not out for blood but general fact. That's not one shocker. He needs to fix his kicking and decision making. I could not give a hoot what he bleeds if he can't make simple decisions and execute basic skills.

What shite.

Pathetic pea hearted plebs.

So many flogss who can't kick or handball.

N jones was average tonight which equals us being pathetic.

Tyson seems to have lost all his skills over the pre season.

I'm about to give up on Toumpas.

Dunn was back to his skilful ol self.

Viney hasn't learnt it's AFL not u18's

Bail is a waste of oxygen, M jones not far behind him.

Vanders was good, prob the one good highlight tbh.

Not denying it's mediocre. I just don't buy in to all the over the top reactions to it. It's the NAB Cup. When we get flogged and we are struggling by about Round 4 THEN I'll be worried. Until then I'll just mark it down as a bad night at the office and wait and see how we respond when the real stuff starts.

The real stuff started 8 years ago and hasn't stopped.

I buy my membership year after terrible year as well, and will continue to do so. The point is, people are angry right now. When they're angry, they're going to say things they don't mean, like threaten not to renew membership. The fact that they care enough to be angry shows that they're here for the long haul. I don't begrudge them their right to vent.

Anyone COULD make a profile and call themselves a supporter. But why WOULD they unles they were?

It's when someone grows numb to the losses and no longer gets angry, no longer caring that we have to worry.

This was a game that NEEDED to be won, pre-season or not. The demons released a statement last night about Lumumba saying he was helping us build towards being a respected club.

Losing to what is essentially a VFL team has dashed that goal into the foreseeable future.

Don't have a problem with people having a view good or bad but to link it to I WILL NOT BUY A MEMBERSHIP is weak, vent all you like with sense but don't link the two.

it's a good point, if he had a different surname he might not even be drafted, I have said all along that his physique doesn't match his style, having said that I'm sure he bleeds for the dees and I hope he proves us all wrong

pretty disappointing, i'm struggling to see how Jack Viney will get another AFL contract, unfortunately looks a bit of plodder, and i'm not just making that comment based on that kick, the whole 2nd half was absolute rubbish from hiim.

These posts are simply unbelievable.

He is 20 years old FFS! Wouldn't have got drafted? My god. You really are a [censored] idiot.

I know he had a bad game tonight but that's just silly.

Couldn't disagree more.

Ah ok, thought you heard him say it post match.

Interesting point though.

I doubt Paul Roos would only pick a ten man side though.

Viney made a mistake, hell so many of them made mistakes it is impossible to blame viney alone. Tackling was poor, disposal was woeful, no team work, handball to players in worse positions. I think the team has been believing their own press get a couple of good players and we will win games, unfortunately they have just been hit by the reality bus in a major way. Any delusions of adequacy should have been well and truly crushed.

Too many players at fault, no point blaming poor umpiring decisions a team of hasbeens and neverbeens and neverwillbe;s beat us tonight.

Seeing these games as somehow carrying a seperate meaning, as if we have hidden depths or talents yet to be unveiled is bordering on delusion. This IS our real season, and frankly shows us everything we will get in round 1. Except for the hard work of Chris Dawes of course. Being utterly objective, we will be easily beaten in the first four rounds. We know this BECAUSE of what we saw tonight. That's ALL we've got.

you are well named my learned friend

it wasn't just an error. This was absolutely basic schoolboy football. DONT KICK ACROSS THE FACE OF THE OPPOSITIION GOAL. Especially when there's 2 minutes left. Slow it down, keep possession.

We've won NAB Cup games before, looked pretty good, competitive etc and then been flogged come Round 1. I'm not saying we'll come out and win in Round 1 but I don't buy the childish, over the top reactions to one NAB Cup game either.

This is f......g frightening because in rounds 5 - 9 we play mostly 2014 top 8 teams...we could be 0 to 11 at the half way mark. I desperately hope you are wrong.

I missed the game and frankly shocked when I found out the result. Can't believe these jokers get paid 100% salary cap. Makes drug cheating sides and players that gamble to throw games look relatively honest. At least they have some goals to aspire to. My only consolation is that no premiership points were at stake.

Some predictable overreacting on demonland tonight. I feel those vfl listed players were playing for their lives tonight, whereas most of our guys seemed to be taking it easy. Unacceptable but not the end of the world. Hopefully we learn a bit from their desperation and are better for it.

Agree with all that, except he had a shocker. It happens, and he'll learn, sure. It was still a shocker.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
