Very stiff.

Whoever gets the gig is almost a top 8 finish and a fully fit GAJ.

I think it's the reliance on Gary Ablett, and the lack of development with the rest of the playing group that has gotten McKenna sacked. Sure talent there, but Ablett's absence and GC's poor 2nd half of the year, highlighted the unhealthy reliance of GAJ.

Delighted that we signed Goodwin when we did, otherwise we could be part of the circus that is about to unfold with GCS & Adelaide looking for coaches and Bulldogs & Essendon potentially looking for coaches...we can sleep easy, folks!

This puts pressure on Essendon - I'd say the only way they can keep Bomber now is a quick defenestration of Hird.

He is that good.

On game day does the side know how to extract that 1/2% just because Ablett always does those freaky things....

Pretty harsh if true, pretty much improved every year and I reckon they're about where they should be at this stage of development. The situation with Bomber Thompson may well have felt like they needed to act now but I question whether he's got the fire in the belly. He always looks so tired at pressers, but then it might just be because of the ASADA situation at Essendon taking it's toll.

Seems a bit unfair to be honest. It's certainly a risk for the Suns. They just about would've been certainties for the 8 next year in my opinion. A new coach might jeoprodise their chances.

2013 the Suns were struggling mid season and everyone was saying GWS would pass them fairly quickly. Things changed when Blighty took more of a hands on mentoring role in the coaches box.

2014 flying high looking certainties to make the 8, their best player goes down and nobody steps up, no tactical change to how they play and a lack of ability to get the players self belief up that they can win without their leader.

Bluey is a fantastic guy but just joins the list of many who is made for the assistants job but not the main job. Footy is ruthless and like Mark Harvey, Brett Ratten & Michael Voss when someone of the calibre of Lyon, Malthouse, Roos and now Bomber is around expect clubs to make the big call

They certainly plummetted this year after the shoulder popped out. I was O/S So the only $un$ game i saw was that one!

Clubs that wait many weeks after the end of the season to do this are serious concerns. It's time to build a list, and while that job is not the sole responsibility of the coach, their input is important.

Saints sacked their coach because they were a rabble last year - it was pretty much an open admission.

I considered the GC Suns to be progressing quite well under Bluey.

I can only presume that they had lined up a better coach (e.g. Thompson) behind the scenes to take over before laying him off.

Needless to say he shouldn't have any issues at getting an assistant role else where, his development of that young list has been superb IMO.
