Goodwin's Law?

How anyone who hasn't been coached by Goodwin (or knows his coaching capabilities) can comment one way or another is beyond me.

Process has been conducted with appropriate thoroughness by smart and experience people, including Roos - who, let's remember, put a premiership coach in place at the Swans. If it's good enough for Roos/Viney/Jackson/Bartlett, good enough for me.

ENYAW isn't a villain.

Swap ENYAW with hh, add Louis Cypher, and you've got the dream team.

Yeah, very true. ENYAW is more a harmless crank than anyone particularly vindicative.

That being said, having him on Tonatopia's proposed 'board' that he was going to assemble sometime in 2012 to overthrow Don McLardy would have been worth the price of admission.

Am I the only one that doesn't mind this appointment? Goodwin was a champion player, club captain, won premierships, All Australian (x5), B&Fs. He's gained experience under one of the greatest coaches of the modern era (Thompson), and will have a further two seasons with another of the greats (Roos) before taking the reins.

Yes, he was involved with Essendon during the ASADA scandal, but he wasn't the orchestrator of the program and he is widely regarded as a stabilizing influence that helped the club perform well despite the constant media attention and speculation. Roos & Co have said that he was very honest with them about his role in the scandal, and I have faith that they know what they're doing and wouldn't appoint him if he was an immoral person.

I'm glad that we have a successor in place, and I think that Goodwin seems like a strong appointment.

And you're sure he wasn't involved in the Essendrugs? Are you a member of ASADA?

I am actual considering my continued support for the MFC as a result of this appointment and not sure that I will renew my membership in 2015.

It hard to believe the MFC would have recruited any coaching staff from the most immoral club in the AFL.

Can not stand drug cheats and refuse to be associated with them.

You serious?!

Bloody hell.

Are you sure the 'R' in your name shouldn't be an 'L'?

What exactly has Goodwin been found guilty of again?

Great interview on SEN with Goodwin last night on Ox's show. While I still think Robbo is a [censored], he asked Goodwin about his previous troubles which were akin to what the Ox went through. He says he has come out of it a better man and with more strength in his character.

For those who condemn him, just think that with adversity comes a better man who survives such adversity. Once again, Roos has demonstrated his currency and worth, not only by the cultural change he will bring to the club - still a work in progress - but also the people he identifies that will bring footy nous to place. Lord knows we need that. Given the sudden upheaval at Adelaide, to take one of their favourite sons from under their noses is a huge coup. Roos would not be taking on Goodwin if he for one minute doubted the integrity of the man.

For all the glass half empty people out there, on this one, just go quietly please.

See.

This game is like "which New Zealand cricketer from the 80s would you want to be your mate".

Almost impossible to win.

H G Nelson and Paul Kelly are possibly the only products of Adelaide I would have on my team.

What is it with supporters (in general) who threaten not to renew their membership cause of a decision the club has made which they disagree with.

If that was the case NONE of us would renew our memberships.

Yes we have made bad decisions, yes we have been a basket case, yes we have been the worst club in the past 8 yrs but ffs its the club we support in both the good times and BAD.

Yes its been very hard to keep supporting the team lately but don't grandstand and threaten not to renew your membership. Just do it and go about your business.

The real supporters while frustrated will continue to support the club financially.

I just don't get it not renewing your membership only harms the club further and what's the point of that?

Off with you then. Don't return. Ridiculous comment based on rumour and 1/8 truths. Just about the dumbest comment I've read on Land.

Goodwin is a midfield specialist so will be very good for our young group. He and Stone will really shape something special with the on ballers

Will be interesting how they structure Goodwin's role. Stone was midfield coach re ball movement I believe. Ben Matthews the stoppages coach.

Can't see Goodwin just being added to that mix without a change. Possibly he takes Stone's role, Matthews continues in the stoppages role. Georgie Stone as the experienced swiss army knife that he is goes in to something different.

The title is horrible but I'd call him our 'kicking game coordinator'. Very US. But I'd have him in charge of developing the ball use of all players from half back through to inside 50. Goodwin can work on getting the midfielders in positions that will see them be used as options going forward and in the right defensive spots. Stone can work on getting all the players to find that balance Roos is so keen on where they take the game on when it's there and build patiently when it's not.

I think after reading Bernie Vince's comments regarding Goodwin's leadership in training at Adelaide I feel a lot more confident in this decision.

The past 2 coaches haven't been elite players in there playing days.

Goodwin knows what it takes to be the best and will show our players what to do to get there.

I'll assume you meant Bailey and Neeld, not Neeld and Roos.

If not, you must have a very small group you classify as elite if Roos couldn't make it.

What a wonderful microcosm of Demonland this thread is. Never fail to make judgements and character assassinations based on half truths and innuendo. Put all your trust for truth in Twitter, Facebook, Demonland and BigFooty. Jump to conclusions based on the feeling of the day and the direction the pendulum is swinging. Ascribe motives without real evidence.

By the way, I thought the Essendon drugs scandal was at its peak in 2012. At least that's the period ASADA concentrated on. Goodwin joined their coaching staff in 2013.

I hope Goodwin works out well... but you do remember who our last "midfield specialist" coach was, don't you?

As long as there aren't too many messages there.

This is a very important appointment by the MFC.

I hope there is a Get out clause somewhere for the MFC.

FIVE years is a very long time !

It's essentially a three year contract. I'm not worried, but I'm sure there's a contingency in place. PJ seems like a sharp, professional operator.

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
