Just got a call from the Club for a fund raiser and the caller mentioned how good the news was that Roosy has signed for the third year. I said I hadn't heard that anywhere and he said he's glad to pass on the news. Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere in the Press yet. Anyone heard anything?

IMHO his job will take 5 yrs not 3, so I'll be excited when I hear about the next two year extension.

With Kirky committing to the third year of his contract next year at Freo and Roosy ruling Lingy out as the successor, I wonder how the succession plan is going? Let's hope not well and he's starting to think about a 5yr plan.

Lol this on the back of both Fox Footy and FC asking him about it last night and him saying he hasn't thought about it. Maybe this guy let slip something that was meant for a later time!

Fundraising calls are often out sourced. I used to but those $100 raffle tickets each year and whilst the sales people flogging the ticket had the Melbourne patter they weren't employed by the club

Perhaps the guy you spoke to just thought that Roos had signed for the extra year but then maybe he really has in which case I'll start celebrating heavily

Very hard to believe based on last night on Footy Classified. But will be very disappointed if he doesn't do the 3rd year. The succession plan seems to be going nowhere at the moment.

He is always talking up the improvement so far - I get the impression that is ultimately the way out - that he has improved the team "so much" already i.e. job well on the way to being done.

Sad Roos has ruled out coaching beyond the 3rd year - Dees only got one foot on the bottom rung of a high ladder to climb - a million miles to go.

And no-one else anywhere near the coaching ability of Roos.

What?

Are people seriously still in doubt that Roos will see out the 3 years?

Yes ,Mrs Roos . I was silly enough to take a peek at the official MFC site ......nothing of course .

Roos did say on FC he is more in favour of doing a 3rd year than when he originally started.

Honestly, I watched FC last night and I read in the interview that the 3rd year was a fait accompli.....it was just a matter of everyone sitting down for a chat.

He is DEFINITELY not going past three years, (his words) but 24 months is a long time in footy....

Let's say that at the end of 2016 we've just bowed out of an elimination or semi final (I honestly believe this is a good chance BTW) after coming from the depths that we've come from, how could anybody possibly just walk away without trying to finish the job.. it's unfathomable really

and he wasnt ever going to coach again either..

I do think, have all along , he will do three. have someone up to speedfor the 4th and remain at the club in some sort of higher capacity..Why not...money for jam .

That ...and I genuinely think hes become fond of the good ol' Dees and can see we WILL make it back

Think we should buy Tammi a hula hoop, a grass skirt and a coconut bra, Roosy a Hawaiin shirt and plant a whole lot of palms in his back yard to make him feel and home and then make him extend his contract.

You'll have to put the whole of Melbourne in a glass dome and raise the temperature about 20 degrees while your at it

I believe he will pick a successor from within the current coaching group unless an outstanding candidate appears.

Rawlings started coaching in 2007 so has 8 years experience. By all reports he has great rapport with the players.

He was head VFL coach, interim AFL coach and has worked under Terry Wallace, Michael Voss, Mark Neeld and now Paul Roos.

Ok, apart from Roos that isn't an outstanding list of coaches but importantly he has experience at 3 clubs under different regimes.

If he is re-contracted at the end of this year, I'd be surprised if he doesn't become the one (unless an outstanding option or former Roos pupil appears).

By 2017 he will have 10 years assistant experience including 3 years of Roos mentoring. If that doesn't make him an ideal candidate to continue Roos' work I'm not sure what would. A one year understudy is insufficient to learn all you can from Roos.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
