That is a bit rough on Grimes. He is a good footballer who just buggers his kicks every now and then. If that part of his game can be improved he is a pretty decent player.

I think youre too kind my friend. hes had how long to figure out how to kick....its set in.

Now and then??....yeah....between the start of a game and its finish...only then.

Whilst we accept mediocrity we wont go anywhere. its not about individuals...its about creating a better list.

Pity about Jordie's lack of skills, as I have always admired his work rate and his courage. He is a limited talent who has worked hard to get everything he can out of himself - sadly the skill set just isn't there.

I have often thought that had the likes of Blease, Morton (and maybe even Watts)put in as much effort and G&D as has Jordie, they would be bloody good and consistent players.

It's often the way isn't it?

Over the last 8 years we've had more than our fair share of either type of player and the frustration is for different reasons. If we had our time over again, you'd reckon the club would have imported a lot more ready to go talent.

However, I believe we've already started moving in the right direction after last year's trading and drafting. Tyson, Cross & Vince were all ready to go and we've become a much better team because we brought them in. Riley & Michie might have done better if not for injuries and both are 22 years old. All 5 are playing today.

As has been mentioned by others, imagine if Hogan and Clark had have played all season? No club ever expects to lose both of their 2 main key forwards for a whole season. You just can't plan for something like that and any plan B under those circumstances just isn't going to work.

If Hogan & Clark had have been available all season, we'd be on at least 8 wins right now in my opinion. Hogan will be back next season and might even make an appearance before the season ends. I reckon we'll make a play for another KPF if Frawley leaves. If he stays, James could play as the 3rd big forward whenever it's deemed appropriate.

Can you even do this. My understanding was contracts are locked in and it's just not possible to delist a guy or even move them to the rookie list.

I'd love to free up the spots but I don't think it's allowed.

I seem to remember something about this happening previously to Juice. I think he had a contract but was downgraded to rookie list ( still on senior payments) to allow another to take his spot on the Senior list. Can anyone else remember this or something like this happening. Pretty sure that precedent exists to down grade a Senior player to Rookie keep paying contract but enable another spot on main list?

Got a feeling that Tapscott may be kept. Possibly as a rookie, swapping senior list positions with Jetta.

His injury is the reason he has been dropped imo, without which he'd remain in the side, unlike others.

I have followed him from day one and if you watch him at training he looks a $million

But on match day he is average on his very best days.

Then add in he is injured on a regular basis.

I just struggle to see What he brings to the side.

What do you see that is worth keeping?

We all know the main issue with Tappy, namely his aerobic capacity. He has the skills and the toughness but he can't run which is restricting his ability to impact the game. If he can work on that and shed some kilos to look a bit less like a bouncer and more like a footballer, he'd be a decent player.

Don't want to stop the improvement and list changes will happen as they do each year as teams try to improve their lists

I just thinks it's funny that after last year, posters want 15 changes to the list. but just my opinion. Nothing more or less than that

That's just how bad our list is unfortunately.

And that is the problem. Too many of our players have one or two good qualities but are lacking in others, often the basic ones required for footballers.

Tappy ought to have developed his tank by now

. DNR2015 I suspect.

I honestly don't know.

It's just a feeling I get about how the football dept see him.

Nothing beyond a vague feeling though.

We'll see when I re-bump this thread in a couple of years.

Evans buys and sells Grimes as a footballer. I'd keep McKenzie because he is a good tagger/aggressive player.

Bail has shown improvements, enough to suggest he has gone past Grimes.

Jack Grimes simply isn't very good, he is a shocking kick and is slow to put ball to foot.

If Grimes has trade value, I'd off load him. He isn't getting a game on form.

Look, you're entitled to your opinion, but I fail to see any basis for suggesting Evans is better than Grimes.

I'm the first person to admit I think Grimes is mediocre atm, but mediocre right now has Evans well and truly covered.

Evans is much better footballer than Grimes.

Although, that isn't a massive feat.

Neither are good enough, but at least Grimes can occasionally read the play. Evans is a half decent runner. I don't see much else in him. I'd be moving them both on once their contracts are up.

Would somebody mind having a go at unravelling the Roosey speak in his presser re playing players and the pre season bit?

About whom was he referring do you think?

There is nothing to unravel it was very straight forward, shape up or ship out

Wouldn't matter too much anyay as the players that we all suspect will be delisted would have already had their papers stamped weeks ago

Roosy knows whos in and whos out

Loved it. Strong message about what he is expecting from the remaining weeks. Nothing but 100% effort (like we got today).

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
