Salem as the sub again then playing for Casey during the MFC bye week seems to make sense to me.

Edit: Scrap that, Casey also don't play on the MFC bye week. Damn.

I would like to see Gawn and Jamar swapping between on ball and full forward to rest, so that they do not rotate off the ground too often that will force the tigers to keep a real tall down back on them and allow our running players more interchanges. Need to have some grunt crumbing to gawn, Dawes and Jamar, players who can put forward pressure on the tigers back men. that should give us a few more opportunities as crumbing a few goals. looking forward to Salem, Riley kicking goals and possibly some tiger butt.

With Byrnes out I would guess that Salem will take his spot as the small forward for the entire game. Gawn may start as the second tall forward and rotate with the Russian. Pretty sure the Tigers are the number one clearance team so we better get the ball forward and keep it in there. Congrats to the pig dog. I hope he stays in the team for the year. A banner in the cheer squad with PIG DOG written on it would be a good site. If we can jump the tigers early the G will empty out pretty quick as it seems the tigers players and supporters are one in throwing the towel in pretty early. I hope this is the ugliest game of all time. If this happens we can win because we can't match their run and carry.

They've lost their run & carry this year, I can't imagine us giving them the space to get it back.

We are a good thing this week, absolute morals.

We'll win the ruck and chew up the contested ball, there is no one to stop us.

Definitely match up better against the Tigers - than we do against the Bullies, and Adelaide.

Providing we have Jamar in, teams with soft midfields will find it hard to beat us.

Richmond have no contested ball winners, certainly none that will compete with Jones and Viney.

Jamar will get first use, we'll get first crack at it and Cotchin won't get his usual numbers.

We should tag Dustin Martin, because he is the only guy for the Tigers that could damage us.

that overrated clown Jack Riewoldt will be pleased to see Frawlet our

Chip smashes him every time we play them

I look at the Richmond lineup and I have no fear at all. Very ordinary looking team, so many plodders. and battlers and they have a very average coach. I am sure Roosy and the boys feel the same way.

Expecting a win.

Option 1: Pedersen goes down back

- Takes either Griffiths or Vickery and potentially means Dunn or Howe go forward

Option 2 : Pedersen plays as a full time forward

- Rotates with Dawes at CHF as either up the ground or closer to goal

Option 3: Gawn plays as a full time forward

- Slightly more controversial but Pedersen has been going really well in the ruck as a mobile back up and Gawn is dangerous as a big unit in the goal square

I think we will start with Pedersen forward and hope he can make an impact and that Dunn and Garland can play well as slightly undersized key defenders. But there is an option for changes if it doesn't work.

I think option 2 would be best Very impressed with Pedo in forward line

Can I get some odds that Ben Lennon (on Debut) gets a rising star nomination against us on Saturday ?

We seem to have the knack of giving these kids an easy introduction

I hope some demon player makes a point and gives him a difficult and poor day

I'd say Pedo plays back to avoid Dunn playing on a key target, Pedo, TMAC and Garlo can get the job done, i'd send Jetta to Sam Lloyd, he has kicked a few goals this year and looks lively

Methinks Matt Jones will be the sub this week, use his run towards the end, give Salem the 'full' game (probably sub him out), and have Riley bashing and crashing, at training the forward line up, put this in the training report as well was Gawn, Dawes, Pedersen, Watts, Bail and Salem

Eleven different players will run out tomorrow compared to our May 19 2013 side that played Richmond where we lost by 34 points. We are a significantly better team than last year

I have done a player comparison of the in and out from last year

Davey - Kennedy Harris - improvement. Potential gem replacing a retired star who was well past his prime

Evans - Vince - Improvement. Better quality player

Frawley - Pederson - Backward. Pedo not as good as Frawls

Magner - Cross - Improvement. Better quality player

McKenzie - Viney - Improvement. Better quality player

Nicholson - Grimes - Improvement. Better quality player

Sellar - McDonald - Improvement. Better quality player

Strauss - Riley - Improvement. Better quality player

Tapscott - Watts - Improvement. Better quality player

Toumpas - Salem - Break even. Both future gems for the club

Trengove - Tyson - Break even although maybe Tyson just

We are a much better side than this time last year. I believe the Tigers aren't as good as last year. We are a HUGE chance to win tomorrow.

And of course:

Neeld - Roos - Improvement (understatement) - the obvious speaks for itself.

Go Deeeeessssssssss

With the dry weather Pedo will be at CHF to start and depending on how our midfield go he will be a good lead up option. I like the balance of our forward line, hope to line up as

Jetta Garland McDonald

Grimes Dunn Terlich

Vince N Jones Cross

Watts Pederson Howe

JKH Dawes Gawn

Jamar Tyson Viney

M Jones, Salem, Bail

Sub Riley

If we can get the ball inside our 50m arc 55 times like last week we win this game. The Half forward line should give defenders and mids some good hit up targets out of our back half, we need a monster game from Howe and Watts.

Agree with your comparisons except for these.

1) Davey played his best game of the 2013 year against Richmond kicking 3, so JKH would have to have an excellent game to match Davey's output in the corresponding fixture.

2) Riley is unproven at AFL level so I'm not sure how you can be so adamant that he is a better player than Strauss.

3) Tyson's general output of 2014 is far greater than Trengove's general output of 2013, so I would swing this easily in Tyson's favour.

No he's not, a broken leg stopped him, he had progressed from rookie onto senior list, I reckon Adelaide were too cute in delisting him thinking it would take a year to get back so they thought they would rookie him again

To see some of the form he has been playing, have a look at the vision on Club website from last weekend, he is in 55, has a hand in a couple of the goals, watch at 00.19, 1.26, 2.26 or 3.06 or thereabouts

The interchange is interesting - who is the sub? Salem isn't going to get any fitter playing part-games, but JKH, Riley, Matt J - I don't want to see any of them in a green jacket.

I reckon pigdog will be the sub, put him on the bench in a cage and shake it for 2.5 qtrs and then unleash him in the middle.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
