I suffer from Stockholm syndrome.

Agreed. And at this point in life, I'm not emotionally ready to enjoy sustained success. By that, I mean three good seasons in a row. Or two.

Melbourne or no one, I don't follow the AFL I follow a team and if that team ceased to exist then so would my reason for watching AFL matches.

How could I possibly even consider for one millionth of a second not barracking for the mighty Demons? I have watched them in the glorious fifties crushing the life out of their opponents. I have thrilled at the guts, determination and SKILL of Ron Barassi, the poetry in motion of Robbie Flower, the wizardy of The Wiz, Stuart Spencer's beautiful long raking drop kicks, Bluey Adam's blistering speed, the strength and power of the OX, The goal kicking of David Neitz, the polish of Laurie Mithen, Gary Lyon's snap goal in beating the Weagles in a final and youngsters Green and Bruce kicking last quarter goals to beat the Blues in the Preliminary final. No, there is no other team but the mighty Dees.

Its like family for me. May not like some of them but stuck with them forever. Have only followed the Dees in my life. Cannot fathom the possibility of changing sides unless they folded for good. I suspect those who switch allegiances have some character flaws. Could never trust them. I prefer to live my life out in unrequited success than rat on my club.

One of the posters here changed to the Tiges after he was banned for a year.

That was definitely up there with Demonland's weirdest episodes.

I grew up in Hawthorn during the 50s and early 60s. My family were all Hawthorn supporters. The Hawks were hopeless and never won anything and I couldn't bring myself to go to the footy with my grandpa any more. I told everybody I was dropping the Hawks and following Melbourne who were winning everything. Since 1964 it's been a very bumpy ride and the tables have turned. Even after all the pain of the past 50 years, I could never just drop my team and change allegiance. I've paid my dues and want to be a part of the celebrations when we return to the glory days.

There used to be a "grade 2 rule" when I was a kid.

Thats when you make your mind up on your team.

But that was then.

Lurking "other strugglesville team" supporter now taking an interest in the Dees because you have picked up a great kid and player whom I am keen to see be given a go. I wont be changing teams but now have a secondary reason to tune into the AFL. Can't imagine anyone changing allegiances. Hope you smash the Saints and will be there to watch. My team will be belted elsewhere.

Iv been asking my step son to follow the Dees for a while he's only just turned to 12 the other week he asked if I would buy him a membership and a jumper so I did, he barracked for the pies I'm pretty stoked he's on board we need all we can get.

60+ years....unbelievable and unrepeatable consistency throughout my school years....just thought that that was the natural form of the game, MFC vs who else for the flag....then over two decades of mediocrity (despite the magic of Flower and Hardeman)......the joy and excitement, and refreshed passion of the Northey years.....the ups and downs of Balme, Schratz, Lyon....roller coaster Daniher years....then the absolute horrors of the past seven years.....still come back for more, though I must say for the first time I lost all enthusiasm last season....still optimistic re this season despite the resurgence of the Norm Smith curse in today's news.

IF the club folded I would probably watch the odd AFL game but could never follow another club....never.

Agree.... If we blow it this time and fold or relocate I'm done! Melbourne storm all the way and watch my boys play footy when they are old enough!

Child abuse.

I'm not surprised.

What about you Beelzy? I remember reading your post about the 'Aints (now that should be listed in Demonland's greatest moments as I thought it was stellar work). Did you ever consider defecting across?

But what are your feelings about charcoal?

Charcoal isn't that good for wind ? or something

no...funnily enough...never ever crossed my mind.

it was all a bit 3rd person-like . a bit fly on the wall stuff. I had good mates who all followed the Sainters and we all loved a beer and it used to just work out at after work on a Sat we'd end up at lInton Ave as one of them lived around the corner.

im 100% Demon then , now and forever....just my lot i guess...lol

It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
