A fitting tribute to an outstanding person. Jim's family and the Demon 'family' should be enormously proud. I know that's how I feel.

Great news for Jim and his family.

IIIRC, the MCG environs now has statues of three MFC players: Barassi, Smith & Stynes. I cannot recall whether any other club has more than one*. It is our home ground & don't let anyone think otherwise. Ever.

* Essendon has two: Reynolds & Coleman. But they may not be around for much longer??!!

Maybe Richmond now will should stop there campaign for KB. A statue at the G isn't something you go out asking for it just happens because of who you are and what you have done before. Richmond's pathetic attempt to get one for KB was laughable.

I don't agree

KB has as much right as the current incumbents IMO

Take a look at his record there is probably no one with better results.

He will get one eventually and in my view deserves one

Much deserved! i'm sure this would mean alot to Jimmy and would mean alot to his family.

Agree. I can imagine his children, wife, siblings and parents, will feel extremely proud, when they visit his statue and see how he is regarded and remembered, for his impact on the AFL and the community.

No doubt he deserves one and I wasn't saying he didn't it was just the way Richmond came out with a campaign for it which I thought was pathetic and desperate.

More statues than any other club.....Norm Smith, Ron Barrassi, and Jim Stynes .

Who said we don't stand for anything?

Only those who are full of self importance, think they know everything, but in reality, know nothing!

As an Irishman who follows the Dees because of Jimmy, and Sean Wight, I am very proud today.

As a young Irishman in Melbourne, in the 1990's, it was great to have a bloke from home representing us so well on the sporting field. Back then, Ireland was regularly in the news, for the wrong reasons. After his career finished, he gave something back to the city/country that had given him so much. I saw him doing the unglamourous stuff - visiting my employer, looking for funding for Reach.

Jimmy's 250th game was a highlight, apart from the Magpies winning. We went to the Blarney Stone in Port Melbourne, sang some Irish songs, and chatted to the players, including 'the smoker'.

I look forward to making the statue a focal point for me and my Irish mates, as we continue to support the Dees. I look forward to telling my kids about Jimmy, when they ask why we barrack for the Demons.

This is how a popular Irish sports site has reported it:

http://thescore.thejournal.ie/jim-stynes-commemorated-australia-bronze-statue-1326535-Feb2014/

This is a great comment by Doctor Doc:

"Im in a school in Melbourne. One of the young lads says hey are you from Ireland? Do you know Jim Stynes??? Some player mate!'14, I’d say the little skippy was..Ronaldo who?? Funny out! His career, personality and struggle endeared a city it seems and what a way to be recognised at the home of AFL! It’s time his country recognised his contribution to Australia. Even the way he conducted himself and played as an ambassador for all Irish.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
