Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Melbourne Turns to Meditation under Roos

Hi Biff, I'd argue that what you've highlighted is combination of focus, pattern recognition and decision accuracy. It may feel intuitive because cognition works at a subconscious level.

Whatever the process, if it means you are hitting boundaries instead of piddly 2's and 3's then I definately want you as my batting partner!

Precognition also works outside 'awareness'. It is possible that what we attribute to pattern recognition is at some level precognitive ability. Impossible to prove of course in the match day situation of course, but I like the thought that our players might learn to free and enhance their precognitive skills as a result of meditation, hehe.

And I'm sure a wise man once said that life is just a series of singles, twos and threes, with just enough boundaries thrown in to keep them guessing!

Does anyone else have issues of independence with this arrangement?

Meditation might be good, I don't know, but if it is should the coaches wife be benefiting from the provision of services or is she doing it for nothing?

Is she the best available to provide these services? Who is in charge of her appointment and who hires and fires her. If it's Roos there is a clear issue.

Seems strange to me.

Bloody good point, Bob.

It reminds me of some of the decisions of the previous admin., which is a little bit worrying.

no mono, the opposite. ;) Their minds wheels spinning out of control & getting Nil traction. and going Nowhere (panic) but sliding downhill.

Slowing down the conscious thought process via a more relaxed mind, will allow a faster transference of information to switch from subconscious to the conscious brain & acts of spontaneity.

When confidence returns further, hopefully we will see less decision errors, as they gain belief in the new processes & themselves, & in time we should start to win more habitually.

I was referring to the physical slow motion....in fact stagnation.

Once the smirks, giggles and loud farts die down amongst the younger set during sessions they might even start to take it seriously and mature in a different kind of way.

Worth a go, and who gives a rats if Mrs Roos is being remunerated.

Paul Roos wife has worked as a meditation consultant for Melbourne players

"PAUL Roos wife Tami has emerged as an unlikely weapon in his bid to soothe the frayed nerves of his players.

Tami is working at Melbourne as a meditation consultant under Demons fitness boss David Misson."

What do you guys think about employing parapsychic science? Yay or nay?

If it helps us win then I'm all for it.

We've had a thread on this before but I'm all for it but it might be better off as a voluntary thing because if you aren't in to it you are wasting your time.

A little shocked that Misson requested it thought, I'm not convinced I believe in that.

And Dylan and Tyler are such average names, but I suppose with kids names these days it could be worse.

No concerns about Tyler helping out with trainings as mainly a ball boy really. It's good experience for him and he seems a smart kid and isn't a distraction.

Hopefully this ll help with the "don't think, DO" message. I've meditated myself in the past and the one thing apart from being able to get into a deep relaxed state quickly that I noticed, was a significantly reduced sex drive, maybe it was just me but if not, this extra energy and focus for the ball could be our secret weapon. I think it best we don't tell the lads about this though eh!

In my opinion, it's something that has been next to non-existent in a sport like AFL but the benefits of doing things like this and allowing for and practicing a deeper connection with yourself and with others plays a huge part in building team trust and understanding.

To say 'it's not for everyone' is an ignorant remark Master, and I don't man that with any malice.. To say 'it's not for everyone' merely implies that there are players who would never have been exposed to forms of meditation and therefor wouldn't be interested. The west has lost touch with living in a spiritual way and having an understanding of the 'non-physical' and your comment is the perfect example.

I argue that it is absolutely for every human being, just as physical exercise is beneficial for the cardiovascular system, just as reading and math are beneficial for the left brain... Forms of meditative practice in a sporting context are absolutely beneficial for the psyche of individuals and collectives. Even if players have never been exposed to such things.

He said that if you don't believe in it you are wasting your time.

I too have benefited from meditation.
However, I do wonder on all these people he has bought along with him. We criticized Schwab and co. for bringing in their mates and hangers on. Granted they will never get as close to a premiership as Roosy has but I just hope this isn't a reunion of the noughties Sydney Swans.

What gives the most benefit from meditation in sport, is a connection of Mind , body and spirit, which greatly helps concentration on the task at hand, and blends fire and passion, or heart and soul, with the physical action and mental application.

It could have been a case of

"Roosy, these boys are stuffed mentally - it's the biggest inhibitor to their performance. Maybe some of that meditation crap you used when we were in Sydney? Some of boys seemed to lap that up."

"Good idea Misso, I'll give Tami a bell."

As for the names Tyler and Dylan, just sticking with Roosy's clear propensity to add a "Y" whereever he can to anyone's name.

Sorted.

Roosy will only have to put up with a handful like Nicho, Pedo, Garlo, Pickles & Trenners.

But god knows what he'll call Salem.

He said that if you don't believe in it you are wasting your time.

Meditation is not really a matter of 'belief'. Don't mistake it for a spiritual philosophy, although it can be and is aligned with various spiritual belief systems. Meditation is a technique, practised to achieve the ability to better control our conscious state, which we all have. The analogies to physical training are completely apt. Those who practise it will achieve change, as per training the body. Belief doesn't come into it.

Meditation taught by someone with a degree in "parapsychic science from the American Institute of Holistic Theology" would involve "belief". Parapsychic phenomena are described as such because they cannot be explained by science.

Just like some people could have objections to participating in Christian prayer meetings and bible studies, Islamic observances or activities of any other religious nature, some people could have objections to meditation on the basis of belief systems or skeptism.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
