Tom Gillies is a good pick up......

When we picked him up, having no idea about him i thought I'd ask a Geelong supporting mate he had one comment and only comment "spud farmer". Thought ok we'll see how this turns out...... Turns out 100% accurate

if he gets a good pre-season he's going to be a gun

But we played so we in the Pre Season

I thought this time of year might be a good chance to look back at clichés we've used over the season.

Some of my favorites:-

"I'm a glass 1/2 full person". (Navel gazer.)

".....taller players take longer to mature...." Sometimes preceeded with "We all know"

I think there's been an "...elephant in the room...". That's a real now expression. I'm just looking for places to use it.

My favourite " ...you have to give something to get something ...". I call that the loser's cliché.

What about ".. Moderators, please lock this ...". I've copped that a couple of times. To use something I think may become a more used cliché soon "I wear it as a badge of honour."

Of course the worst one I heard over the year was "[so & so] defeated Melbourne ..[some scores]"

Yes, I'm bored.

The reality bus ran over the elephant in the room one week at a time.

"We got smashed out of the middle today, but it is what it is, we have a young list, you have to give something to get something and there is always next week" :)

"It's all Jack Watts's fault". "I think he'll stay".

One I haven't heard for a long time is "You can't pull your socks up if you haven't got them on" :(

"Drinking your own bathwater..."

I love that one. Everytime I'm talking to Yanks and they start frothing on about how great their world is I tell 'em to stop drinking their own bathwater.

They get all quietly weird after that. Makes me think they have no idea what I'm saying so they say nothing rather than look foolish..

I'd offer the same advice to Collingwood supporters but we all know that 1) they don't have baths (or a sponging), and 2) even if they accidentally did then it would be cruel and unusual punishment to convince someone drink said bathwater.

I have no idea if I'd go to jail for convincing a Colllingwood supporter to commit suicide via bathwater, but I don't want to find out in case I find out just why 99% of Collingwood supporters prefer showers.

"Elite runner"

"Elite kick" (I have posted this horrible phrase twice - as punishment I imposed the cone of shame on myself for 1 day)

Blease is "blowing up during preseason running"

Gawn, Tapscott, Grimes "doing laps with the rehab group"

"love the way he goes about it"

But my all-time most hated phrase in footy: ..."the boys". Don't know why it gets under my skin but it reminds me of the time when "man" or "bloke" was being replaced with "guy". Do all players have media training that demands of them the use of the collective noun "the boys" whenever they are referring to the team or the list?

"The boys did well on the track"

"The boys worked really hard"

"Credit to the boys".

Just looking to be competitive for longer.

I don't per se mind 'Keyboard Warriors' being broken out when extreme statements are made. The problem is when it is used to shut down relevant conversation like it was used on a few occasions last season. The phrase should be housed in a glass box marked 'Break in case of emergency'.

"He's definitely in the starting 22..."

And, "He's in the mix"

Also, "Player x could be anything". It's generally used to bump someone up but generally leaves me doubting that the player has any particular skill which stands out. If he did, it would have been stated.

Kellie Underwood on ABC774 gave the old Michael Williamson adage, "Luck's a fortune" a considerable thrashing during the last season. Bad luck had to keep hearing it.
