Can someone give me a run down on what happened On the couch? apparently Roos was filthy with Colless comments and demanded a apology.

If true could this be a very sour break up between Roos and the Swans?

this was great theatre;;

thought it would have been posted before now what he returned fire with..

roos; i was devastated actually devastated by article & he stated the article was factually incorrect.

he also quite strongly said it was HARD for him to read it still( pointing to on screen quote from colless.)

he sent an email off to colless asking for an apology to be put on swans web site ;

that colless doesn't want to do;;

mike ;essentially its about the kid in upcoming draft who's from swans academy. pushing him to join melb..

roosey; saying ; this is FACTUALLY incorrect.; the boy is very, very, keen to play for the swans but if he chooses not to & go in draft he is eligiable to be picked by any club.;

healy;; cannot come to grips about colles saying that quote;;

playing peacemaker...

mike ;

states the swans believe that u will take " george stone' & that u r also after " stewie dew" to melb.

who is still under contract.

roosey; states that he has had a number of applicants for the senior assistants role at melb. & stew dew is one of those who has applied., but the swans won't let dew interview for the position...

which is their perogative,

and that there is enormous ANGER coming out of sydney at this time & he doesn't understand why this is happening and that maybe its a message for him that they r both moving on..& things were not panning out the way he had wanted them to..

Does that mean he's not trying to poach Swans academy players?

If ever he needed any incentive to do so, Colless has probably given it to him.

It does mean he is quickly becoming a Demon.

And also shows how respected, and powerful, Roos is as a coach in the AFL. What Colless did smacks of someone who is [censored] themselves at the prospect of people wanting to leave to play under, or coach with, Paul Roos, and he was desperate to paint him in a bad light. Only made Colless look silly to be honest.

I think one of the points is that we cant poach them, as there is a draft.

The point was made however that we are supposedly into 2 of their assistant coaches one being Stuart Dew, who has applied for the senior assistant position, however has been refused an interview at the swans end as he is contracted.

Roos went on to state he had sought clarification on this and was told that you could apply while contracted for higher positions, eg senior assistant or senior coaching roles

Roos has a future on the stage...lol

smoke mirrors, overacting...lol

Roos is playing them ( Colless & swans)

love it :wub:

Bloody hell if my work told me I can't interview for a more senior job I would tell them to go [censored] themselves.

Ridiculous work place bullying from Swans for the sake of petty point scoring.

I like that Roos is inadvertently stirring up the Swans.

We need some good "Friday night" rivalries to emerge over the next couple of years as we start playing better, hope the AFL have us playing the Swans twice for the next couple of years...

Paul Roos is the maestro. Peter Jackson has saved our club. Although Paul looked older tonight. The strain already showing.

Stu Dew would be ideal for mine.

Colless has been an outstanding servant of the game. I think there would have been a very short queue for the Sydney Swans Presidency in 1993.

However Colless is currently behaving like an absolute idiot.

Roos sought advice from the AFL Coaches Association on contracted assistants and was advised that an assistant coach could leave if offered a promotion. Dew applies for the Senior Assistant/Next Senior Coach job and the Swans won't let him be interviewed. As for the player the Swans have offered him a 2 year rookie contract which he can either accept or choose to go into the draft where any club can take him.

On a positive note Colless has fired Roos right up!

Don't know how serious this Dew thing is but at least he would physically provide an example of the departure from the image of a Melbourne replete with light bodied skinny footballers who play bruise free football.

Roos seems hellbent on sticking it up Sydney, and what better team to do it for than the capital city of the home of football, and the city that Sydney envies.

A long overdue rivalry beckons.

Maybe we just take Perris from their academy and George Stone for our development coach/academy :) Leave Dew alone perhaps !!

Posted (edited)

dew has played under first john cahill, then mark williams and alistair clarkson as coach, been an assistant to the latter (i think), and longmire as well. not a bad cv.

scott burns credentials are solid - norwood boy, under macintosh as a skipper leading the way, then malthouse as a coach, followed by being an assistant to woosha, yes?

who's simpson been under?

Is that hate I'm starting to detect? I bloody hope so. It beats pity any day of the week, and I really like it.

Go hard Roosey. Make us hated.

1. Perris is a holdover from the old scholarship scheme. Sydney are offering him a 2 year rookie deal. Roos may or may not have suggested that he'd earn more money and have more chance to play if he was on the main list. Communicating this to a guy he helped coach isn't particularly poor form. The guy is set to join the swans but the swans shouldn't low ball him on the rookie list if his play is good enough for main list.

2. The new program is the academies. They are a free for all. Sydney get an advantage of seeing them first hand but all clubs have equal access to any of them. Suggesting Roos forgets about the good ones he's seen from this group is stupid. Roos has every right to go after any of these guys

3. George Stone is out of contract. He should go where he wants to

4. Stewie Dew: He's in contract so in some ways the club has a right to keep him. If it's just an assistant job he was looking for then he shouldn't even bother interviewing. If he wanted the senior assistant job and a run at a senior coach job in 2-3 years then you'd think a successful organisation would recognise his ambition and let him interview. Then again he's contracted and Sydney are a successful organisation. Who are we to judge.

    Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

    BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

    Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
