I've learnt in times like this to not buy into all the "inside" info. The tips to trust are those out of the blue and unremarkable.

I like to think I've got some pretty decent contacts and have been close to the mark many times. But when the bush telegraph is covered in hubris its hard to know what's legit and whats eminated from the mind of 15 year old on Facebook.

Literally everything is pointing towards this being a fair accompli. But we wouldn't be Melbourne supporters if the excitement wasn't tempered with some nervous pessimism.

I'm sure nearly everyone else is the same.

I am in agreeance with BH here it is not next year that excites me with Roos and I am under no illusion to a quick turn around.

It is the long term benefits of instilling a culture and qork ethic into the club and player group. The examples of the leading teams and the expectations of each player to maintain standards, which were managed by the senior players with Roos. The way he groomed Longmire to such a seemless transition also excites me for the longterm future of the club.

Wasn't much, Barrett saying it's more like 85-15 than 50-50 and that a few clubs are questioning if the AFL is bankrolling our coach. Apparently only $400k of the rescue package is able to be used for the coaching position. Only other thing was him reiterating it's not $2mil a season, but closer to $1.6mil

So much love on here for the Roos coaching likelihood, that I fear the expectations for next year might already be exceeding what he can realistically achieve. Port Adelaide's fast rise is the standard probably, but if he achieves less than that, will we all be disappointed?

Roos has already stated that who ever the coach is for Melbourne, the coach shouldn't advise publicly the expectations of amount of wins for his first year.

That may get under the skin of a few here at Demonland as they have preferred this announced because they want to judge KPI's (ie. no. Of wins).

This is the genius of Roos. His reputation alone will breed success. All of a sudden we're attractive to free agents. The Josh Caddy types who tell their manager "anyone but Melbourne" will view us very differently.

Tangent - When James Packer buys stock, the market reacts. He could buy into Enron and they'd jump 30% that day. Doesn't make Enron profitable, but the Packer stamp is enough for the sheep to follow.

Translate that to the football field and you have the Roos Effect. Yes, we're one of the all time worst teams. But that will be forgotten. When we go dangle $700k under (for eg) Daisy Thomas' nose we won't get an immediate, if polite, rebuke. We'll get careful consideration.

All this hype that his comment has created, what will happen to the club if he doesn't coach. The season has been a disaster, I hope Paul Roos knew what he was saying and the effect on the club that it would have if he rejects our offer. It is now all our eggs in one basket, if it doesn't happen it is going to be extremely hard for the club to move on.
