Team for the eagles should be,

Out: all current melbourne players except for Viney, Jones, Clark

In: Casey under 12s

Surely they would have a red hot crack at the contest

I thought Sylvia did alright in parts of the game but he had opportunities to stand up and lead by going back and taking a shot from 50 but he kept looking for the short pass to a double-teamed Clark which invariably resulted in an Essendon turnover. As one of the best long kicks in the team, I was disappointed he didn't step back and take the responsibility to have a shot at goal.

Ins: Tapscott - Spencer - Bail - Jetta - McKenzie (if fit) / Evans

Outs: Sellar - Nicholson - Rodan - Toumpas - Gillies

FB: Garland - Frawley - Jetta

HB: Watts - T.Mac - Terlich

C: Viney - Jones - Trengove

HF: Tapscott - Howe - Davey

FF: Byrnes - Clark - Pederson

R: Jamar - Grimes - M.Jones

I: Spencer - McKenzie/Evans - Sylvia

S: Bail

Match Ups:

Jetta - Hill

Frawley - Kennedy

TMac - Resting Ruck

Garland - Darling

Outs:

Sellar - He is not up to it. Spencer will provide more.

Nicholson - Sick of him being the fittest bloke on the club and running the least on game day. Looks tired all the time

Rodan - Not up to it at the moment, if ever

Toumpas - Not up to it currently, needs to develop in the 2s for a while. I'd say at least 4 or 5 games at Casey.

Gillies - He was shocking, work on his defensive positioning in the magoos for a while

You obviously got no idea about footy

Why don't you write something constructive DD..Put up an alternative rather than confrontational crap.

Ok in the side you wanted to come in is: Taggert, Barry, Magner and Gawn.

Now here is e being constructive.. Do your research! Taggerts played in the development league and didn't even get in the best mmm real smart bringing him in. Barry is clearly not ready. still skinny and has been flashing in and out of the game at casey. Magner is a rookie and cannot play unless someone gets a long term injury! Gawn atleast needs another two weeks just to get that confidence and match fitness up.

Who is Pederson in for?

Out: Sellar, Watts, Gillies, Toumpas, Nicholson, Jamar

In: Pederson, Kent, Bail, Spencer, Tapscott, Evans/Jetta

Pederson plays down back, Clark to be relief ruck, Rodan sub.

Eagles not travelling so well; maybe keep the loss to less than 10 goals. :o

Some questions:

1. One of today's newspapers has Watts in the injuries with "ill". Has that been covered anywhere? And what impact might have it had (on Watts, not the team)?

2. A number of people have proposed Dunn as an "In". Is he any chance? I would have thought a hamstring would see him out for another week as a minimum.

3. Bail has not played any contact football until yesterday. But is there any reason he wouldn't be at full fitness?

4. A lot of love for Gawn and not a lot for Jamar on this thread. But what about Spencer?

So, having seen none of the Port Adelaide game and about one half of the Essendon game, I'm not qualified to comment on ins and outs. But ask simply,

1. If Watts was ill, doesn't he deserve another chance?

2. Why would you rush Dunn back if (a) he's possibly still injured and (b) he's not particularly good - that is, he's not Luke Hodge, for example.

3. Should Bail be given a run?

4. Should Spencer be given another chance?

Reason for edit: typo fix

What about dropping the Russian and promoting both Spencer and Gawn with the latter changing in the orward pocket?

Sorry I have a really silly question

Has Colin Sylvia ever played in defence?

I doubt he could spell the word.

Da fence is something you sit on before realizing Colin Sylvia doesn't have what it takes.

lol! Poor Colin Sylvia... the guy just exists to torment us. Put him down back, cant be any worse than Hillybilly Gillies... Sylvia and Abraham Frawley could share a joke or two

He's played forward, ruck, mid, sub but yet to be tried in defence

Jamar back to Casey to get some confidence besides his hip will be sore from where Ryder kept using him as a step ladder to win the taps. 3 dropped marks indicate he is at rock bottom.

Gillies is a problem as he is a mismatch for covering any resting ruckman

Toumpas needs some time at a lower level.

What we need

Running midfielders, most teams use 10 in their rotations. Watts, McD and Gillies are too slow, we need run not mark and kick

Another marking forward to work with Clarke. I will also defend Sylvia as I watched him thru the binoculars and he ran and put in but so often his leads were ignored and when he and Jones were in the middle was the only time we won some clearances.

Yeah lets drop jack Grimes., the only guy that did a heroic act last week.

Good one champ.

I was dead set against this when discussed last year, but the first change I would make for this game would be to appoint Nathan Jones as Captain with Grimes as his deputy. We need an inspirational leader with the requisite level of aggression to their play... Nathan ticks the boxes.

Watts should not be playing this week.

However if he is, it must be forward. He is so far from a defender it is not funny.

As least up forward he may snag a couple rather than cost us a couple.

Confidence is currently at a very low ebb and the game plan isn't working becuase we can't get our hands on the ball or at least with low confidence the players really don't want the ball. IMO maybe be best to revert with a run and carry style whilst our back are against the wall.

Play as many running players as we can and allow for Meth Coasts big forward line by playing Chippy, Garland & Pedersen as back up ruck/defence. IMO Neeld needs to bring in runners and rotate them through the middle and get the interchange rotations up to a record amount, Bail, Viney, Trenners, Sylvia, Jones x 2, Howe, Tapscott, Kent, Evans & Jetta as many as we can fit in and rotate through the middle constantly. Mckenzie if fit goes to shut down Scott Selwood, Bail can run with Shuey.

A rabbit out the hat against Meth Coast to spring surprise play on as often as we can. With Nic Nat out Cox is unable to spend as much time up forward and has been outdone in the last two outings by guys at centre bounces who have been to mobile for him. Also need to play hard guys who will give their all and attack the contest and some ball users, going to be hard to fit all the above in but desperate times boys

Jetta, Frawley, Garland

Pedersen, Tmac, Grimes

Bail, Viney, M Jones

Sylvia, Watts, Howe

Tapscott, Clark, Davey

Spencer, N.Jones, Mckenzie

Int: from Terlich, Trengove, Kent, Evans, Joel Mac & Sellar to be considered as cover in case one of our talls goes down

Toumpas maybe needs a rest

I love this team.

Run, run, run.

No point in mark, prop and kick.

Watts must play forward!!!!

People are still leaving Watts in their preferred teams?

All the talent in the world counts for nothing if you don't use it. See Colin Sylvia, and Watts isn't Sylvia's boot lint.

Not a defender? He's not a footballer! He's scared on the football field, he has zero intensity, no drive to play for his teammates and in turn, our club.

Sure everyone is sick of Watts "bashing" and threads turning into Watts threads, but I'm sick of soft players and waiting on potential.

You can argue that I'm wrong, that I don't know what sort of drive he has or how hard he's trying, but even if he's trying his guts out, then he's still no good.

Put him forward? Lol the ball doesn't go down there, he'd be in heaven.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
