  1. Welcome HL! Strong and clever HB or Mid and former All Australian. Collingwood had a glut of mids so hard for HL to break in but may prove different at Melbourne. HL together with Garlett are great pick ups without affecting draft picks much. Worth noting both players wanted to play with Us. Note that Brisbane have done well picking up Christenson and the Elite one Beams. Hoping MFC can score a brilliant Mid similar to Danger. Fingers crossed.
  2. Jack has skills no doubt about it. Would have to be a substantial trade. He appears scared on occasion and does tend to hang back a little. As to putting on the weight this may not suit his running dashing weaving style. He seems big enough just lacks some courage and heart. Shows in glimpses but thats about it.
  3. Josh Kennedy did go to Melbourne this year actually but different shape ball.
  4. There we stood, you, me, Kipper and Ray. Still got the photo. One of the best games of football. Interestingly, I read in column this morning, may have been Rohan Connolly commented the Melbourne team of 1987 was not particularly strong. After initially disagreeing I thought about that it and he was probably right. Players like Eishold, Yeats, Campbell, Brett Bailey , Chiron weren't stars but Flower turned them into Demons. Melbourne did get onto a significant run of wins and played as if possessed by some higher power to achieve what we did that year. Flower, in my mind was that power. He was always poetry to watch, skillfull without pier and never resorted to the thuggery that made other "legends" famous in that era. Can't ever remember Flower putting in a bad game. We all know him as a champ wingman however as we all know he was used in all roles in a bid to plug holes. My only recollection of Flower losing a battle was against the great M. Blight when Blight at his peak and the ball coming in like lightening. Flower started at FB that day!! In more tedious days of a former life gone by that involved a dull and somewhat meaningless existence, Flower was something to look forward to every Saturday. Losing didn't matter. Bye the way I recall the Great Sean Wight was the best player that Prelim Day.
  5. Refreshing racism is gradually being weeded out. No longer cool. I recall at a match v Tigers some years ago when LJ got the ball in the middle, managed to get clear somehow and from 45 metres out with nothing between him and the goals Jurrah grubbed the ball through for a behind. A Guy two rows back in the Melbourne Members Northern stand ground level yelled out "take your boots off next time Jurrah" a comment greeted by laughter by most in earshot. One of my big regrets was not reporting the Guy or at least challenging him then and there. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-09-09/port-adelaide-investigating-claim-bachar-houli-was-racially-vil/5732128?section=sport
  6. JACK, That's called blowing the SuperCoach Budget. Great players though.
  7. Yes definitely for HL. Whoever controls the steering wheel in Demonland must act on some of the rubbish comments in this thread. Pathetic commentary. Pathetic gutter dribble.
  8. Boyd's best years are well behind him. Was a great player though.
  9. I read an article about him earlier this year along the lines of a hand or wrist operation hampers his quick hand movement and impedes his marking. He has trouble bending his wrists.
  10. Also like Neil Daniher(arguably our best and most successful coach since 64) Bomber T oozes character and charm. The players would love him and supporters likewise.
  11. landing Bomber would be a major coup for Melbourne Football Club. He would form a dynamic duo with Roos for the next two years with Bomber taking over full control afterwards.
  12. Can't believe someone muttered the Neeld word. IMO Roos will go for 3 years. So On gas we don't panic and rush to a Scott Burns or any other untried Coach. Talks will start seriously with Bomber at conclusion of this season. It will either be Bomber or Ling, hopefully Bomber.
  13. At least we don't have to put up with Bruce mcaveney,s continuous statement ending in a question?
  14. Greetings from Chiangmai! I've been a fan of Jack Watts. He does nice things on the outside and may be good in a top side similar to Geelong. Earlier contest with Robbie Gray and some pis- wea k tackle attempts have one come to conclusion we should trade him. Very weak at a time he should be at his peak. Melbourne have no natural forwards. I like Dawes and Pederson but let's face it they're both battlers.
  15. May need to relieve Grimes of the Captaincy. Just go with Jones. Off topic I have previously posted Matt jones isn't quite up to it. While he does get the ball he's not damaging. Glad he got dropped. He may make it back but needed a rest. Hope Blease gets a run.
  16. Gibbs Kruezer and swallow are stars. Not b graders. Need a balance. Not all one or the other. Only one heartbeat isn't enough time to consider giving up draft choices. The pressure is on the club to use the draft choice wisely. Melbourne are shockers in that regard. quote name="Curry & Beer" post="958506" timestamp="1405659410"] hmmm agree only to an extent.. let's ignore the last 3 drafts, as they are too young, and take the 5 before that as a decent sample set 2010: Swallow, Bennell, Day, Gaff, Polec 2009: Scully, Trengove, Martin, Morabito, Cunnington 2008: Watts, Naitanui, Hill, Hartlett, Hurley 2007: Kruezer, Cotchin, Masten, Morton, Grant 2006: Gibbs, Gumbleton, Hanson, Leuenberger, Boak In that group of 25 there is a LOT of talent, randomly getting 2 of them you would be pretty happy. However, I agree, if it's that or someone like Dangerfield - forget it, take the established player
  17. Read an article about Scott Burns . While he may be better than Neeld(not saying much) I feel mfc need an experienced Coach to takeover from Roos. BT would be the choice for me to take over in 2016 with ling under his wing. Ideally keep Roos for 8 years would be great. Sure Burns may be able to Coach well but he doesn't have the pulling power of a Roos or Thompson .
  18. Great post. Can't disagree with any of those choices. Wasn't aware of a Buckley/ swanky rift? IMO we need to inject a couple of "bad boys". We have got a goodie goodie easy pushover theme at our club. Whoever has been in charge of our draft in previous seasons needs to be shipped out. So many wasted high draft choices totally wasted. Jack Trengove back next season doesn't exactly excite me. The return of a Mitch Clark would! That will be Hogan but he's going to take at least a season to develop and pick up the pace. A trade along the lines of Watts for Jenkins would do it for me. While I like Watts I do feel he's had enough of a go. A danger or fyfe would be great but we had our chance with Danger and passed on it. Let's keep it to something that's doable. How about a two year contract for Christ Judd or Lenny Hayes? Our young mids need guidance and these two guys are the best in the business.
  19. still my favourite Melbourne player. no ones gone near him talent wise since he left.
