Doesn't matter where you or anyone else sits OD. The fact is that officially we didn't tank and furthermore, the fact that the AFL accepted this is a fact means it's likely that its legal advice was that it had a snowflake's chance in hell of getting up before the judges of the Supreme Court of Victoria. You can back that one in.

Yet,as many posters above have observed and complained about, we are still stuck with a hefty fine and will remain the butt of "tanking jokes" for years to come.

Quiet you fool. People might realise that our $500K fine is in HK dollars.

Doesn't matter anymore...let's all move on. This time next week there will be another story....and Viney will have had 22 touches on debut and a new Demon story will rise.

Time for talking about footy, not all the other stuff - thank goodness we have a game this week.

I will believe that after I have read the report Redleg.

Not that I think any of us will ever see it.

Surprise me and tell me it is available.

Well considering McLachlan said "I don't know what tanking is" we are off to a great start...

I refuse to handwring about a practice that I care more about defining than the people running the game.

And if anyone from AFL HQ is reading this post - PM me and I will school you.

For a fee of course...

That's right.

Spot on Bbo.

Who believes that you are innocent if you are then fined $500 000

Another way of looking at this is that the AFL have been quite shrewd in charging 2 Melb officials with actions 'prejudicial to the interests of the AFL' and then fining Melb 500,000 for being an employer of these 2 officials. These charges would be harder to defend in court than a tanking charge. I think certainly this was a legal settlement where Melb really had no option but to accept these penalties.

So we cope a fine of $500 000 for having a dill around the place.

Oh please

We get dividends and grants each year from the AFL. We are to pay the fine in instalments. Think about it carefully and understand that the AFL wanted to send a message and would be prepared to pay for that message.

According to Andrew Capel of The Advertiser...

Melbourne was
also fined $500,000 for bring found guilty of deliberately manipulating results
in 2009 when it finished bottom and was rewarded with the first two picks at
the national draft, where it swooped on midfielders Tom Scully and Jack

MFC had to pay the costs for the 2 stooges running an 8 month investigation - hence the $500k fine. The MFC also had to toe the AFL line - else they would have been threatened with a reduced amount from the equilization fund. If it had been Collingwood or one of the other major clubs then Supreme Court action would have followed.

Until the MFC increases it's supporter base, gets a decent draw and improves sponsership then being beholden to the AFL will continue.

No, we cop a $500k fine because AA started an investigation without a definition and without a suitable conclusion, apart from the one you saw today.

If the club is prepared to pay the fine even though it has been found not guilty indicates the club has wriggled out of more severe consequences. Thankfully supporters are generous. Tanking Tithes will be the new Debt Demolition.

Glad it's over.

Believe AFL used us as scapegoat.

Believe McLardy and co fought very hard to ensure current club not screwed for past sins.

Believe McLardy and co very pragmatic with all facts of case and achieved very good result given club no doubt held over gun by AFL ( no draft sanctions, loss of premiership points, loss of gaming licenses, millions in court fees etc)

Want to move on.

Will donate to club to help pay fine.

Best way to stick it up everyone- WIN.....

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
