"Tanking"

Supporters of every club are convinced Wilson hates them.

I don't think she does.

She's all about the "scoop", and principles be damned. Don't come between her and a scoop. Or you'll end up as collateral damage.

scoop, the problem is she's a dog whistler. out walking.

Ted...there is something 'personal' in her writings about Melbourne and in particular CS. Shes fixated.

I used to think she wrote an interesting story but the more I look at various topics I see a common thread.. When the radar highlights CS she goes off the charts.

I see that in Denham, but not in Wilson.

With her I see naked opportunism. She's not playing favourites, or the reverse. She's kicking a dog when it's down coz it fills column inches.

I might have once agreed Ted but on so many occasions shes bent over to include a swipe at CS in articles that warranted no such inclusions.

Its naked all right ; but for mine its hatred.

I have this uncomfortable feeling that the Essendon fiasco makes it harder for the AFL to let us off the hook.

They now have multiple cases building up pressure to sort out the league problems.

Hope I am wrong but will not look good to say no case to answer IMO

I'd say the opposite OD...and this is for mine, why.

Currently the 'tanking' fiasco is still in house as far as they're concerned. The AFl can limit damage etc whilst it remains so. Its greatest worry would have to be us forcing it to court where they no longer hold sway and things are exposed to natural justices etc.

It ( afl ) now has a much bigger , potentially, fire on another front and already the Sherrif has weighed in suggesting this isnt your fight laddy, its ours, step aside. Now the AFL has a major, major logistics and more importantly (though it ought not be ) PR disaster on its hands.

This will tax the resources of even the dark empire. Id actually go to the idea that the drug thing couldnt have come at a more opportune moment if someone had planned it  lol

The AFL has the option , plainly before it , of calling it quits on tanking, no foul-no harm, lets move on. It has no such option with the drug issue. Right now Vlad and co better be practising their swimming ...a tsunami is on its way.

Amazing that AD on the news conference said that in 2008 the AFL were taking actions to protect the integrity of the game.

1. Performance enhancing drugs.

2. Gambling

3. Salary cap breaching.

amazing Tanking doesn't rate.

I'd say the opposite OD...and this is for mine, why.

I posted the following in the Essendon drugs related topic:

"I really think that the AFL will want the Tanking issue out of the way now post haste so that they can concentrate all of their efforts on this latest debacle, and what better time to sweep our case under the carpet than now. They know that if they bring in a guilty finding against us, they will have a long and protracted court case to deal with... what do you think they would rather deal with, a few journos bad mouthing them over their relenting (I think you will find there would be a few clubs breathing heavy sighs of relief if the accusations are dismissed), or the serious business of cleaning up the drugs issue?

The changes to the way in which priority picks are handled has virtually ensured tanking will no longer happen, so in a way that problem has already been solved, but the drugs issue is not going to disappear unless a genuinely concerted effort is made across the whole comp (and even that is no guarantee)."

Anyone remember the comment from AD about he wanted the tanking adjudication to be held 'publicly'?? Seems to me they wanted to put a final nail in the coffin of tanking so that no one can ever bring it up again.

The Drug scandal has made this a certainty IMO. Altho I'd be pretty confident it now wont be held in a public forum. Just lift the corner of the carpet and put it under there.

Read Caro's crap about us closely, and you'll see it's a load of tripe:

In the coming days you will learn that your son's club - or former club - has been charged with attempting to manipulate the draft and perhaps even perverting match results. The coach, the footy boss and maybe even the chief executive could also be charged.

OK. So she says that the charge is going to be attempting to manipulate the draft. What now? Where's that a charge? Attempting? We didn't actually manipulate it? And what does manipulating even mean? If she's referring to a potential charge of draft tampering, why wouldn't the charge be simply draft tampering? It won't be 'attempting' anything, it will be doing something. Moreover, that charge is so far-fetched and impossible to land on us that it just couldn't happen.

Then she says 'maybe even the chief executive'. Maybe? This whole time she's continually said Schwab's screwed. Why all of a sudden does he get off? If the club and the 'footy boss' go down, so does Schwab.

Conclusion - total nonsense. Again.

Not sure if this article has been posted here.

Agree. The Essendon thing impacts us. The AFL will likely now want to be seen to be heavy handed now that several of it's 'pupils' have gotten 'out of line'.

Why?

nothing really changes, the evidence remains the same and is how a court will see it. IMO a two front attack from the media with the Essendon/Dank inquiry and Melbourne taking any tanking/disrepute charges being brought before the court.

I imagine some journalist somewhere has written on one day that Cameron Schwab is in serious trouble for having been somehow knowledgeable about Melbourne's list management (which will be called 'tanking' in the article) and that Essendon's CEO (Robson?) is in serious trouble for not being knowledgeable about what its sports scientists (term used loosely by me) were up to.

Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I just heard small part of an interview on SEN between Don McLardy and Tim Watson from this morning and it was Don telling Watson just how much this has affected the club. Can someone who heard the full interview perhaps post a summary?

not saying anything, just telling

I can see it now

Vlad: "the revelations uncovered over the last 48 hours have reinforced the importance of running a competition of high integrity. As such i've come to the realisation that tanking does exist, is a major issue, and has occured in the AFL. We will be charging Melbourne with draft tampering and match fixing'

He sounded angry...The AFL is under attack and they are going to tighten things right up and be authoritative to get things back under control...I how this doesn't impact on their mood on our investigation.

Our favourite journo has just said on FC that the MFC, Connolly, and Bailey will be charged in the next few days. She's unsure as to whether CS will be charged.

A few things on what she said, if she's so confident on the others how can she be unclear on Schwab, her main target.

The other stupid comment she made was that she didn't know why McLardy defended the players, clearly she hasn't been in on the story of late as accusations were levelled at players fumbling in the last 3 minutes v Tigers.

Every time I see her she just makes me want to punch something.

Saw the last half of footy classified. Charges against Bailey the MFC Connolly but not sure about Schwab according to kero.

Its gonna be a long year....

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
