We do actually have some decent and emerging midst. We just didnt have sufficient of the right kind. This is being addressed. We also lacked enough proess up front. Even when we had it in tbere it could come rebounding back ot a tad quick.

Have no issues at all with what the FD are trying to do

Why are we chasing a bunch of key forwards when the problem is not our forward line efficiency, but the lack of forward 50 entries?

How about some midfielders, please Mr Neeld (and yes I know we have Viney, but he is not going to be able to do it all by himself).

Because often the problem isn't just the midfield. Without targets in the forward line there is no point kicking it in (especially the quick kick forward).

I guess my issue is that he sooo untried at this stage- as you can tell, I am a [censored] "live in hope "type and I quite like Neeld as he appears to be the opposite. If we trade out Morton (who at times shows a bit) I semi get it as we have seen plenty of him to be able to say yeah....naaaahhhhhhhh. But this guy is two years in and injuries, no real preseason yet - have we seen enough to make the call ?

The only thing that none of us are privvy to, which coaches are, are the close up hunger, passion and desire to make it. We see it from the other side of the boundary. It was interesting that someone posted Brett Lovett saying that Cook should never play for the MFC- it maybe that he has witnessed closely the complete absense of any desire that we see from the other side of the fence.

That and the complete lack of self belief seem to be the major issues with Cook.

Why is so much on this thread not on topic? It reads like bizarre stream of consciousness from One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. Makes keeping up with real movement tricky.

Agree, but if we're happy with having both Dawes & Gumby in the forward line, they're not going to chase & harrass & apply forward pressure. And if we're going with 2 or even 3 tall forwards, plus Howe, where is the pressure going to come from to stop it rebounding quickly out of the forward line?

I can understand the focus on tall forwards, but I'm getting a tad concerned that we're starting to overdo it, to the exclusion of other needs. Any reports that we're talking to Jesse White and the bells will get a little louder.

Not something I am really overly concerned about....

1. We won't get them all anyway

2. Uncontested possessions and ball use was addressed in the 2nd half of the season - I am not up for a long debate - we do need some class mids at the MFC, having Viney, Jones and Trenners helps but we need more no doubt - Moving in to 2013 getting the ball should not be an issue with some development of our current mids/half backs - I see Dan Nicholson and Rohan Bail being imortant to this mix

3. Our biggest Bigest weakness is a lack of talent up forward and an in-ability to hit the scoreboard in the 2nd half of the year from multiple forward 50 entries.

We need forward for 2013 - keep up the good work Neeldy

Because threads on internet forums never stay on topic... You're lucky no-one has started talking about Justin Bieber or Hitler...

And that's his breaking news?

I didn't listen to trade radio, but a while ago Damo tweeted "Breaking news on a player wanting a new home" but named no names.

As an amusing aside, Carowhine Wilson tweeted: "It is believed Eddie McGuire has personally intervened to ring Chris Dawes on his holiday telling him to "pick a ****ing club""

Rodan? Played some good footy at port. Would take a one year contract you'd think....

Not sure you wanna be picking up those that have been delisted from a bottom rung club, though.

Do you watch Dawes play ? chasing, harrassing and forward pressure is his forte - his form slumped this season as he couldnt clunk a mark like he was the previous two seasons but his off ball efforts were still very strong.

rodan has been delisted by port are we still interested

Surely with us getting Byrnes and Barry, and we currently have Jetta and Bennell (although I'd imagine at least one getting delisted) we don't need/want him.

He is worth pursuing imo, pick 20 for Dawes and Collingwood's 2nd or 3rd rounder?

rodan does 5 spectacular things per season (when not getting his knee reconstructed)

Articles appearing saying that Dawes has decided he wants to come to Melb. So does Pederson it seems. Not sure what we have (left) to trade for these two together, unless it's going to be players.

We could end up with only one live pick in the draft at this rate.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
