The Free Agency/Trade/Draft Rumour File

This thread is dedicated to the memory of Chilliboy wherever he may be. It's for Free Agency, Trade and Draft rumour, innuendo and scuttlebutt and therefore official announcements are not for this thread. If you can substantiate your rumour with a link to a reliable source, please do not post it here.

The things to post here are the stories you hear on the grapevine, in pubs, taxis, children's parties and the like.

This is a Demonland public service to allow some semblance of sanity to prevail on the rest of the site.

Who's going to start us off?

The Hawthorn board are waiting until after the grand final before deciding on whether to launch major legal proceedings against the Melbourne Football Club under trade practices legislation for deceptive and misleading conduct in allowing it to poach Cameron Bruce and Kyle Cheney from the club at the end of the 2010 season.

Demons to go strong on Victorian boys from GC especially if they nominate Viney with their first pick.

If not, Viney with a strong link to the current draft pool will, with the help of his son, will select a young crew of tough, uncomprimising footballers that will steer the MFC through the next decade.

Players to select Grimes as sole captian for 2013.

Haha love a good rumor

Anyway - I've heard from a couple of people now GC are heavily in to Viney and will nominate him as their pick 2 selection..... @&% Suns

And with Collingwood looking likely to offer Cloke a new 5 yr deal a couple Pies players may be pushed out - Wellingham/O'brien/Goldsack

Aside from a couple of posts - this thread should be 'cleaned' of the attempts at 'humour' that reside in it.

I want fanciful rumours people - not terrible, just terrible, attempts at humour!

I'll still be pursuing my comedy career.

I think this is right. Let's try to make the rumours at least sound believable otherwise they don't qualify.

I hear GWS is looking to offer another 6 year contract to another marque signing following the success of Israel Falou and Tom Scully. Quade Copper is on the top of their list, as he is apparently disenchanted with union and is looking for a change of code. Next on their list is Ryan Giggs, as the Giants are disgruntled at the amount of media attention that Sydney FC are getting since his signing Alessandro Del Piero.

After kicking 67 goals and 32 behinds in 14 WAFL matches this year, Fremantle are considering offering former West Coast Eagles Premiership CHF, Ashley Hansen, a spot on their rookie list as insurance incase they cant land another KPF during trade week to compliment Pav.

Further Melbourne also dipping its foot into Travis Tuck

Anyone else shudder slightly with the way this was worded?

That being said Tucks possible future in an AFL club after spending a year (or is it two) in the VFL will be interesting in how it pans out.

Heard that Neeld met up with Harry O. No idea if it's true and if so, what it actually means. But with Trav set to sign, Melbourne would surely be able to offer him a lot more $$

For what it's worth, I do not want O'Brien at Melbourne. I'd rather persist with guys like Strauss or Tynan, than an overrated, unaccountable and potentially overpaid player like Harry.

Harry O is a holier than thou [censored], but he can play footy. I'd happily have him in our side.

I was told sometime back that Malthouse, Cloke and Goddard are headed to the Blues....... at the time I disregarded the rumour.... But it seems that a part of it has come true and the second part is being openly talked about as true......

The closer we get to the end of the year.... The more it seems these rumours may actually happen...... How would the Blues fit both Cloke and Goddard in there salary cap? Who knows.... Maybe they plan to drop a few from their list.....

All I can hope is that MFC are ready to scoop up some of the remaining players from this fall out....

I know a bloke who has a brother on the board.

He tells me that the Bombers are making a huge play for Rory Taggert.

Apparently their spotters took a keen interest after scouting the couple of games that Rory played for Casey. From what I read on 'Land, he was quite impressive, and got plenty of the ball.

I guess it shows the value of having a well resourced football department.

Their early offer was a 3rd round pick, but we told them to go jump. He also added that his brother thought it was unlikely to happen, but that he couldn't count it out, as the Bombers has been sniffing every week, and had also sent some of their heavy hitters for a face to face with Rory.

Would be interesting to see what players are eventually offered, although essendon are usually very hard to deal with.

Have heard talk about Gibbs being offered up as trade bait.

A mate who's friend is on board of a golf club in the west tells me Goddard has already signed up with this golf club for next year.

I have heard that he has been seen playing golf with some of the Essendon fellas and that they are keen on him. (Legit rumor)

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
