And, putting injuries to key players aside, he'd probably come to the same conclusion that most rational analysts would - we have the worst midfield group in the competition, too many NQR's and a playing list that needs to be further disciplined into playing tough, defensive minded football.

Roll on the draft and the pre-season.

Malthouse appears to me to have been commenting on coaching, not list management. He says the coach plays to the players' strengths.

My question is whether Neeld does - in particular, in relation to Brad Green at the present time. Are you saying Green is currently a NQR? Or that Malthouse would consider him NQR? Nothing to do with our midfield group, unless Green is occupying a spot in it. Which he isn't.

I'm really glad that the club is having a game to honor Brad at the G. He's been a great servant. I'll be there to cheer him on one last time.

Thought this photo was a bit of fun:

Am I reading to much into it, but is that Bater waving good bye as he exits the building?

Based on his output this season and last, Brad Green is presently NQR. Why would Neeld be asking him to retire otherwise?

It's pretty simple I would've thought.

He has waved goodbye already I think. He's saying, Mark, can you give me a hand with my bags?

And you KNOW that he was asked to retire??????

Why is it with you, that there is a conspiracy in every statement

Congrats on a great AFL career with the Dees Brad. You retire on your terms, still playing seniors, in the top 10 games for the club, a Captain and a loyal clubman. You have a lot to be proud of. Now get to work on those sons for us, we need good footballers.

Congrats Greeny.

Classy til the very end.

Thanks for the memories over the years and the wonderful way in which you continously represented our club. A fantastic clubman who always gave his all.

And so, the last remnant of the 2000 Grand Final team departs. Thanks for 13 terrific years. His heroics in the 2000 QF are permanently etched in Melbourne folklore. Green sits 7th on our all-time goal kicking list and in two games time will be outright 6th on the games list. He's been a very good and clean player, and one of my favorites. I'm glad he chose footy over cricket or soccer, even if he'd still get a game with either of those national teams. Look forward to his send-off against Adelaide.

Well done Brad, and good call. It must be hard, I thought there was something coming after those goal celebrations.

Great career, great highlights, lots of courage and one of the best set shots we've ever had.

All the best.

All you can ask for from your players is loyalty, effort, courage and determination, and Brad delivered on all counts. Will be missed.

At least he isn't holding on to his nuts like Jurrah is.

Haha.. I had to look twice because the wrist tape makes it appear as if it's not his arm at first and someone else might been giving a reach-around.

Congratulations Greeny.....250 games, club captain, leading goal kicker...true champ of the club.

Congratulations to Brad on coming to terms with this decision, it wouldn't be easy and now he can start to reflect on a good footy career at seasons end. Will have played 255 games by seasons end and most likely 350+ goals. A very accurate kick of the football and he should remain proud of his footy career and having the privilege to captain the oldest club. The red & blue.

He has handled most things with class and dignity throughout his career and this is no exception today. Clearly admired by the players and fans and has given plenty of excitement for all concerned.

He clearly loves the club, will remain a one club player.

Respect B.Green.

Well there we go, he may have been given a nudge, he may be going out on his own terms who knows for certain. To me it doesn't sound like the Junior situation.

Congratulations on a fantastic career, it's a shame your last couple of seasons weren't great but you have given me some wonderful memories. The one that sticks out for me is the Hawthorne game where we were up by 50+ points they came back and hit the front only for Brad to kick a set shot goal on the boundary line and I was right behind it!

Perhaps announcing it in advance might even relax him and let him enjoy what time he has left. I hope boys play their asses off v Adelaide for his last game at the G, I will be there to say goodbye.

Well done Greeny. I HOPE it was his decision because I thought he had one more in him and we need senior players contributing.

Cudos to Green though I am not entirely certain that he ll be logging into Demonland to read all your messages. You would be better off emailing the club with ur messages for him.

I would love to hear that Malthouse assessed Neeld in similar terms - but do you think he would?

...

I wonder what he would say about ... Brad Green

What would you do if Malthouse gave glowing praise for Neeld?

What would you do if he damned him with faint praise?

What would you do if he condemned Green?

What would you do if he pumped up Green's tyres?

Do you see that it doesn't actually matter what Malthouse thinks?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
