He's 190cm and they see him as a wing/half-back runner with his accurate left foot.  Mahoney said this morning he'll become part of the midfield rotation.

He has never struck me as an in-and-under type who can go through the midfield. Looks a near ideal winger to me, based on admittedly limited watching.

I would prefer him as an outside runner (With a good kick) as it seems to be one of our greatest needs atm. Do you think he is up to sharing the load with our hard-nut mids?

(nvm just saw your earlier post) Wing/HB it is. Sweet

Mahoney on Kolodjashnij:

“We are confident his concussion issues are over and we have seen our own success with that with Angus Brayshaw and Neville Jetta who have had concussion issues over the last couple years.”

“We are confident with that. Through our midfield, we think we need more run, we need someone who can play a legitimate role on the wing and halfback."

“Our recruiting team loved Kade when he got drafted five years ago and to be able to bring him in, we know he can play those positions.

“We think he is a really good addition for us in the midfield.”

KK was very much in contention to be drafted with our pick 2 if we held onto it in 2013. Billings probably was just in front, but KK very much in the conversation.

When Mahoney said midfield rotation it was very much implying wing not in the centre square and it looks to me like Tyson out KK in is exactly what the footy department were targeting. Correct an oversupply of inside mids for an outside mid.

Wing will be an interesting position this year given the 6-6-6 rules. It won't change much in general play but from a centre bounce there might be some different tactics. If he settles on the wing KK might be required to start right towards the back of the square and be a loose defender or play half back flank which he's well qualified to do. And without the extra running off the back of the square he might have sprint to cover a midfielder bursting from the middle. Wing's are vital defensive sweepers and outlets at around the ground clearances so he'll have to do some work there but it's not impossible to improve on.

“Our recruiting team loved Kade when he got drafted...” and Ben Kennedy too apparently.  Hopefully K2 delivers. Gut feeling is he will.

He has some experience now, had some downers, too. Getting back up at present and it is with the Dees! He will get up, he'll be a great flanker and ball deliverer. Like his height - deceptive for opponents and very capable of marking May's big kick-ins - probably done it many times already. Good mover, two-way runner; ideal! Welcome, Kade.

Yeah I think that's wrong.

He's 190cm I believe

Didn't know he had that height. Makes him our tallest midfielder.

Long strides, good length in marking contests. He seems to run and really good pace over 100m. Can't wait to see him really improving our run and spread on the wings which we badly need.

Agreed.

His second season of AFL was outstanding and looked to be a potential A grader.

Obviously he's had some issues but hopefully new scenery and a strong club will help him get back to his best.

In  KK

Out  Tyson

Dom was pushed to the outside wing role, where he was so out of position and lost at sea.  KK the perfect replacement.

Interestingly I heard on trade radio that the Kangaroos were thinking of using Dom Tyson in an outisde role as they have enough inside ball winners.   If thats the case,   he will be as ineffective for them as he was for us.

The stat I really liked was in his second year and pre injury issues he averaged the most metres gained for the Suns and 13th most in the competition.

It's just the player we need.

Especially for a guy universally known to be a highly efficient user of the ball. That’s where hunt let’s himself down in comparison.

Midfielders are not all insiders.  We need an outside mid and I suspect that KK is that designation

Kolo replaces Dom but he also provides defensive cover ahead of Fritsch, whose effectiveness waned once also played out of position. Meaning we also get Fritsch back up the ground or on a wing.

It's incredible how many left footers we have in the likely 22 now. I remember when we used to lament our lack of left footers and how this often gave Hawthorn an advantage.

May, Salem, Lewis, Viney, KK, Hibberd, Hannan and Fritsch, with Wagner on the outside of the 22.

Eight out of 22 is the second most in the comp, alongside North, who just traded in three and the Bulldogs, who traded in one.

Amazingly, it's St Kilda who now lead the comp with nine (having traded in two this off season).

The next closest is Hawthorn (who also added two left footers in Scully and WIngard) and Collingwood with 7 too.

I watched the entire suns vs swans game from this year (suns won this btw)

KK was pretty disappointing in that game I thought - didn’t do a whole lot even when the team after 1/4 time had one of their best performances of the season

He didn’t have great continuity of games I guess this year but still didn’t look any quicker or harder over the ball than Tyson. Hope he has a big pre season and proved me wrong

May was pretty good that day but did have a few sloppy turnovers

Pretty good. He took 14 marks which gives him plenty of chance for a few sloppy turnovers I guess.

I take this year for KK with a grain of salt and compare it to Brayshaw 2016-17.  He was coming from a long, long way back with his concussion issues.  Hopefully a preseason, some good advice, technique change and some confidence will see him back to his best - like Gus 2018.

True - he was good but he does kick very short a lot and I also noticed a consistent tendency to kick or handball high to teammates - perhaps that’s something he will work on at MFC

he did mention Goodwin had talked about how he could improve aspects of his game perhaps that is one area

the guy who played on Buddy was pretty impressive - can’t remember his name #16 I think

Weller played well too that day

Anyone got an idea of how many Km's KK covers/runs in an average game? Or should I say how many he is capable of covering.

Having a quick look at the AFL tracker KK has been in the top 5 on the ground for total distance covered 6 times this year out of his 8 games. Lowest amount out of those 6 games was 13.8km and highest was 15.3km.

Only a small sample and judging by the stats above his tank seems in good shape.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
