Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Go and get Gaff!

Well this is awkward.

Gaff should absolutely get 6 weeks - the same as Bugg. It can not possibly be any other sentence. (altho the AFL will find a way). Its an almost identical scenario.

And not only that Bugg was pilloried widely including by his own teammates and club, who I think were very poor and unsupportive of Bugg who was repentent and contrite over his actions .

Will be interesting what stance the club and media take. Clearly Gaff is not a 'pest' like Bugg, doesn't send out inflammatory Instagram's and is viewed as a ball-playing gun.

Watch carefully over the next few days as the full gamut of AFL hypocrisy is on vibrant display. Prepared to be sickened.

it's dirty but i thought the same thing,.. But for real, very sorry for Brayshaw with the broken jaw, how do we think Gaff will go as a team mate of Angus? I'd be a little dark to say the least.

Angus seems to manage just fine with Bugg as a teammate.

Just finished watching the game now. How bad are the Eagles supporters. Standing ovation for Gaff when he comes off. Same again when they all got round him after his final 1/4 goal.

After Biggs hit we (for the most part) all sat around thinking what [censored]. Certainty didnt applaud it!

The Brayshaw's will get over it. Mr Brayshaw probably understands that these things happen in footy. Mrs Brayshaw has been through a lot but I doubt she'd hold a grudge.

Smart sponsors will be happy a very good footballer has joined the Demons. They'll be fine.

If you get the chance, watch Ross Lyons presser to see how his mum is feeling, she’s distraught and so is Ross by the look of him.

Did Bugg snot one of the Brayshaws? I don't recall that. I was fine with Pickett, Vince and Lewis joining the Demons, more than happy to see Gaff join the side (if it happens) was just speaking as a brother, to use the cliche 'blood is thicker' and all of that.

agree to disagree, but be clear on this point, I think Gaff should go for as long as he would get as if he had 100% meant it.

Then the AFL should double his penalty to send a message to supporters and players that laud this kind of behaviour.

Of course any mother would be distraught. I don't expect Gaff to be on her Christmas list but I imagine in time she'll come to forgive him. Especially once Andy is back healthy which I hope is sooner rather than later.

As for Ross - well it's nice to find a distraction rather than talking about Freo's form. He's coached many players who have been suspended for some nasty things over the years I'm sure.

Yeah while Bugg needed the stint, I didn't love some of the commentary he got from the club.

Hodge and Mitchell both had success with the Hawks. Jones has stuck with us through the worst period and should be there to enjoy the good times. Loyalty works both ways. If he wanted a big payday he wouldve left ages ago.

I understand all that, but he has a max of 2 years with us, before he's gets overtaken from within.

There is every chance that Jones'y will lose the captaincy at the Demons within the next 12 months.

That won't be the case at the Suns.  As his leadership alone will dictate he plays on there to aid in their recovery.

They and the AFL would pay him overs  to have a player of his skill-sets and experience,  to help lead the Sun's out of the shadows.

I cannot think of any other leader within the AFL that has his bulk of experiences,,, that makes them a better choice to do that job.   He is far and away the most suited for the role.

Loyalty of course... but how will it be when we have to drop him from our finals bound sides next year, or the season after.  How will that be for loyalty ?  And after that,  retirement beckons.    A sudden fall from grace.

I get your point, yes he would offer something to the Suns, but after dealing with 2007-2015 why on earth would you put yourself through that again? for sure he will go out on a high with us.

That's ridiculous.  Intentionally assaulting someone 50 m away from the ball is not "the nature of contact sport".

An overly aggressive hip and shoulder while contesting the game falls in that category.

If that's where the line is drawn, then every jumper punch, every tummy tap, every raised elbow should be charged by the cops as assault???

Gaff's hit was clearly bad and he will cop a heavy suspension. But he should not face criminal charges. That was my point.

There's plenty of over dramatic outrage on this thread in the last hour or two

Kid? He's 18. He's a man. If he's not maybe he shouldn't have entered the draft or should be playing WAFL.

It wasn't outside a night club though was it? It was on a footy field and context matters.

He was blocking Gaff's run on the field. Gaff was barely looking at him. Brayshaw wasn't either and you can see him dip down to move away from Gaff. Gaff took a swing for his chest to whack him away and smashed his chin.

Gaff has played 170 odd games and never hit someone in the head before. That, and the vision, counts for something with me. More so than a hypothetical.

It was bad, very bad, but he won't be put in a cell by police. Not should he.

Im going with 5 weeks. He isnt a pest like Bugg (6 weeks) but is not a celebration of multiculturism like Houli (4 weeks), however this is AFL and as a star player he may also conceivably recieve anywhere between a $1,500 fine and 3 weeks.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
