  1. Nev was an outstanding player and role model for us, with a huge work ethic, and moral / ethical standards to match. I want him back at the Dees one day, when the timing works for him and our Club.

  2. I would argue that it helped us dominate the GF. But our ability to win in multiple ways won the flag. The Dogs are a great clearance team and that is all they had, they couldn’t score goals easily any other way, so when that swung 180 in our direction it became a domination.

  4. When a team hasn't experienced success in a long time there is always an element of self doubt about whether they are good enough or 'deserve' to be be in finals etc. Even in games when leading and the opposition expected Melbourne to fold on many occasions we obliged. Now this team know what they can produce is the best in the comp I am looking forward to this team going to another level. Not only walking onto the ground in each game with a new confidence but unleashing their new competitive spirit to see how good each player can be. There is nothing holding them back at all. The sky is the limit. And the fact we did this is such a team-oriented way with everyone playing their roles there will be a greater focus on doing more team things and urging fellow team mates to be the best they can be, Exciting times for these lads and for us a lifelong followers.

  7. I'm guessing there's probably an AVB farewell thread somewhere else as well, but will take this oppertunity to thank Vanders as a supporter for standing up and giving us hope as supporter when the team was still on the rise back to competitiveness. Really admire that someone who didn't come through the elite junior ranks was able to elevate himself to play AFL footy at the top level and make a real impact (physically and metaphorically speaking). Had not his body let him down, I think AVB could have been a premership player for the MFC. Loved his strong marking, bulldozing bursts out of packs, through players and his bone crunching takes and body on body work were something to behold. His contribution to our 2018 finals rebirth was probably the pinicle of his career and I think his presence in that series contributed immensely to the belief the team built out of making and performing well in finals as an important stepping stone towards the premiership glory of 2021. Hope AVB looks back fondly and with great pride of his time at the mighty MFC. Thanks Vanders, you were a ripper!!

  8. Was told in grand final week that the club have put a lot of time into Mitch Knevitt. I don't follow the draft so i don't know anything about him but he's the only name I've had mentioned to me aside from Woewodin JNR.

  9. Thanks QD! I can use that as my reason for rewatching tonight; I just know at some point my son will say, “you’re watching it AGAIN?!” Rn I’m paused at just under nine minutes to go in the third. Fritta has just kicked our sixth. Another 15 goals to go! Ahhh, this never gets old. Aaaand… unpause.

  13. Coming out of lockdown my Family got together on Saturday night in our colours had a BBQ and then watched the Granny together. We talked a lot laughed a lot and loved every minute of every great play and goal that we have memorised and then watched the presentation together for the first time. It was a memorable night apart from me almost burning down my daughters BBQ. This Granny is something that we will remember for the rest of our lives.💕❤️💙

  15. 2022 is going to be very interesting for a number of players as we try to squeeze 30 top players into 23 spots. A great problem to have but I would hate to be on the selection committee. Good luck Adam it is great to have players of your quality in the group.💕❤️💙

  16. Also this game proved even more than before both Trac and Clarry are a half second ahead of the opposition which enables them to get the break with both their incredible skills. They are ONE grabbers don't fumble and run like the wind and are now playing with a real synergy as are many of our on ballers inc. Maxy and Dogga. They grabbed the game with Jack V who did the Libba thing and got the ball out a number of times. JV deserves great credit and has been overlooked a little because Trac and Clarry were so good. Jacks last 7/8 games are as good a block of footy he has played for the team and great credit to him. Little wonder that the margin ballooned out when so many contributed so well on the biggest stage. Many played their best games ever or equal to. Amazing second half effort from all the team eho clearly love and respect each other and play for ONE reason only A CUP and FLAG for the DEES. Thsnks MFC for an unforgettable experience which I will never forget or undervalue. Best footy I have seen the Dees play in the 62 years I have been going to games!! Wow snd what a day to turn it on. Lets see if we can win on the G in September in front of our fans in 2022.!!!

  17. Relax mate. Don’t know if you’ve heard, but there is this thing called COVID that’s impacting the entire world. Mail and parcels from every source is delayed. The postal service has admitted they can’t keep up. The celebration will happen as soon as it can. Go and watch the replay

  20. After waiting in the wings for two seasons, Jordon got his opportunity in the opening round game against Fremantle and established himself as a hard worker in the team’s second tier of midfielders, also gaining a rising star nomination. Later in the season, he shared that position with Tom Sparrow who shaded him out of the starring 22. Jordon was left outside looking in as medical sub late in the season, a position he occupied in the grand final but he was never out of the 23 player list for the club’s 25 matches. Date of Birth: 20 December, 2000 Height: 186cm Weight: 80kg Games MFC 2021: 25 Career Total: 25 Goals MFC 2021: 6 Career Total: 6

  23. They tried to explain it away with tales of “gastro” but when we finished with the doggies I reckon they had to accept that we were just that bloody good that night.

  24. didn't know where to put this, I think I heard on the radio that the boxing day test will be capped at 75K. If the club wants to do anything before Xmas with the fans at the G, I presume it will be capped at 75K, which will probably mean it will be ticketed, and then sell out in a heartbeat Cant wait to take the pilgramage to the G to see the boys do a lap of honour, I think that's when it will finally sink in for me!!

  28. Weightman actually drags Kossie down with him, trying to get either an in the back or holding free. Glad the ump didn’t fall for that blatant cheating. Weightman for me is fast reaching Mathieson levels of hatred.......................... and that’s saying something.

  30. Surprised I’ve not seen much on here re EASTONWOOD but kudos on a really good career in the end. Plagued by hamstring injuries, but on his day in his prime he took on the best fwds in the comp and more than held his own (he usually was the biggest or best tall ina very age defence) and is one of two premiership captains at his club. Well done sir.

  31. Aren’t we over this chit of training too hard or not? We had a dream run this season, if Selwyn and co and the players have learnt anything from Darren B then it shouldn’t be in anyone’s mind to be nervous about a few run arounds.

  32. That GF moment you mentioned was mine too.As cool as a cucumber he handballed to himself and gathered loose ball and deliver perfectly.(Like all his other disposals) This kid is a gun. Just turned 19 which is hard to believe.

  33. I remember in last years draft JT gave Bowey the biggest wrap because of his toughness, skill and footy IQ. I can now see why but I believe that his rise has even surprised our FD team. Great effort Jake Bowey, keep it up young man and you might get the chance to play in another in your 32nd game.💕👌❤️💙

  36. Just to take both us & the Dogs out of the equation for a minute. Not a fan of Grand final rematches in Round 1. It's a waste. The reigning premier could play anyone & their fans would turn up in droves for the unfurling. You don't need big numbers of oppo fans - it's gonna be a huge crowd celebrating anyway. Far better to have the rematch after 4 or 5 rounds. And if both teams happen to be undefeated leading into that clash, then you've really got a blockbuster event !

  37. So we are a top 4 team now - the first few rounds will be slowly getting back into the groove of a long season. Wins are great, losses will happen, don’t read much into what we do in that month. So stop talking about losing round 1 like it is so important. We have our sights a little higher than ‘early season momentum’ that’s the cute stuff that the Saints or Freo fans can coddle themselves with.

  38. Scene: an inner suburban house in Melbourne, late at night. Two men are drinking beer. One of them, JORDAN DE GOEY, holds a cattle prod to the other one's genitals. There is a loud CRACK. 40. In the late 60s my Dad got a 35 mm Praktika. Took it to MCG one day and peeled off a few shots of Greg Parke marking. Slowly digitising the slide transparencies and will post them here when I get around to it. Kodachrome colour too, as mostly monochrome from those days.

  43. Oh I think you will be pleasantly surprised. 2022 will be even better than 2021 IMHO for the Dees. I think the comp will take more than a year to catch us up, in spite of all the bluster we are hearing during the trade period from the likes of the Blues, Magpies, Dons and Cats. We will win more games in 2022 than 2021 and go back to back.

  45. The AFL record Premiers arrived today. Great photos, stories, profiles and breakdown of the game. Excellent value for $15.00. Still waiting on a few more items. Got a couple of extras for my Demons kids because you never know...they could be waiting another 57 years like I did before we win another flag. I had the '64 record but left it behind when I moved out of home, never to be seen again. In '64 no biggie. Another flag the next year beckoned. What a fool was I. Load up just in case.

  46. That why there is such a feeling for the Wights Broadbridges Stynes Silvias Flowers etc. We all have relatives that have missed this event some are luckier and we're around in the 50's and 60's! I feel for any one in this situation but please don't let it overrule your joy and elation on such a magnificent achievement. I was lucky enough to be able to go to the game from Brisbane but I have no guarantees about next year or a dynasty of flags st this stage either! Please embrace the present I don't want the feeling to stop.!!! One if the great days of my life and I hope to emulate it again at the G in 2022.

  47. There are so many sentiments that I can identify with on this thread. Our family have been Melbourne supporters for close on 50 years. Unfortunately both parents have passed on in the last 3 years and missed the Premiership this year, which they would have loved to have seen and experienced, obviously. I still am getting used to the idea, I have had almost 50 years of thinking 'maybe next year' so it's taking time to realise it's actually happened THIS year. I still get emotional watching the last 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter despite watching it plenty of times. Like others have mentioned, I have admired and loved the efforts of great Melbourne players, however, up to now, when they were on TV etc, they're couldn't be described as premiership players which didn't quite elevate them to the status of other players in the same era, in my opinion. Now we can have those players....now we can revel in Melbourne's players having a Premiership reunion every few years, now we can have not just club champions, but competition champions.

  48. Just a word of advice regarding framing. Unless the art work is something that will increase significantly in value over the years , it’s a total waste of money to use conservation or museum grade glass, which are about 10 times more expensive than standard glass. If you’re really concerned about fading image then ensure the artwork is kept out of direct sunlight, and yes, perspex, whilst much lighter than glass, does not respond well to wiping .
