It's not just that we're reigning Premiers, but there are two other reasons why Channel 7 is likley to want us on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Firstly, we play an attractive brand of football that people like to watch. Secondly (and related to the first), we're one of the highest goal scoring teams which allows for more ad breaks during play.14 points

It seems completely just and appropriate that after a 9 month wait for live football the season should kick off with a Thursday night blockbuster featuring…. 12th vs 13th 🤷♂️ Why is this a thing? It also predetermines that those 2 clubs get prime time slots for weeks after that due to break requirements. It’s beyond boring.8 points

Yes, I was there too. Gawn, Brayshaw, Melksham, Dunstan and Mitch Brown all doing a private training session. Was awesome to see how seriously they were taking it and how they have taken Dunstan under their wings. They seem to be intent on going back to back. Brought my son down and they were all very obliging, signing posters and jumpers and taking photos, even though they seemed pretty exhausted.7 points

Got a photo today from a mate doing laps on his local oval . Also on the oval , max , gus , milkshake and others . Great to see the players focussing despite being away from the club7 points

Agree but I did like the 1:30pm starts in the winter sunshine with half a stand to myself O well... progress6 points

Quite possibly my favourite player at the moment. His first 10 weeks or so were All-Australian quality. He went through a slight form slump in middle of the year but he thankfully returned to his best just before the finals series. His goal in the last quarter of the Grand Final deserves more attention. His ability to run all the way from the backline to the forwardline and take a mark was unbelievable.6 points
-
Often underrated in my view. His ability to provide an outlet at the defensive end and/or another option up forward is like having an extra player on the ground. A crucial factor in our success.6 points

I think the clubs fortunes will now accelerate due to increased members, attendances and sponsorships but the must never forget the members who stood by the club through the period from 1964 to 2021.6 points

Melbourne is likely to secure at least three marquee contests in the first six weeks of the 2022 season with the league open to the Demons playing a Round 1 premiership replay against the Western Bulldogs. Playing on the Friday of Round 1 would also put the Demons in the box seat to play on the Thursday of Round 2 given the league could schedule them off a six-day break. Given they play Richmond in Round 6, they could play the Tigers’ Round 1 opponent Carlton on the Thursday of Round 2. Last year Collingwood played the Dogs on the Friday of Round 1 and then Carlton on the Thursday of Round 2.5 points

I cant see them getting too many night time games. The retirement village locks the doors 8.00pm sharp.5 points

They get an armchair ride every year with the timeslots - this time every year people say "they'll be much better next year". I loved how (due to covid) the prime time matches were selected as the season went on - rewards the clubs winning and playing an attractive game style. Was hoping this was one of the covid changes that could continue5 points

As long as the AFL remains committed to Hawthorn v Geelong on Easter Monday and the two ANZAC Day/eve games, a Grand Final rematch can't always be the season opener. Those games mean it's impossible to commit to the Grand Final replay as the first game in case it's Hawthorn v Geelong, Essendon v Collingwood or Melbourne v Richmond because within weeks they'd be playing again. In fact, Easter Monday can be as early as Round 1.5 points

When people talk about great roleplayers, Positive Lingers is one of the first I think of. Doesn't really have superstar footy attributes but executes his role to perfection, will sprint up and down the outer wing for 120 minutes regardless of reward and will always provide an outlet for our defenders exiting D50. His aerobic capacity is basically unmatched - Whitfield is the only comparable one that comes to mind. He and Gus were a very important part of why our defensive structure looked so rock-solid this year - long live the Wingers Club!5 points

There already is 😆 I'm all for this idea, I think it will have a fantastic atmosphere to it and would be a great way to kick off season 2022. I don't understand how people are concerned that this Melbourne won't bring the heat, but somehow the Doggies will. Given our 2021 season, and how overwhelmingly good we were in the finals we should all have complete and utter faith that this team will perform no matter the occasion, venue, team or time. Any team. Anywhere. Anytime. Go Dees!4 points

Congratulations to Easton Wood on his career. There are only two Bulldog's premiership captains, Charlie Sutton and him. Although I think his decision may have been prompted by finding himself five metres behind Bayley Fritsch on a number of occasions! (It wasn't a free kick to Schache. Brayshaw's action actually punched the ball.)4 points

Another day, another highlight reel! Here's our Rising Star Luke Jackson showing his wares on the biggest stage of them all!4 points

Langdon and Brayshaw helped re-define Melbourne's game, with hard running from defence to attack and back again, constantly throughout games. Opponents found them hard to keep up with and match, and they were a huge part of our success (and badly-needed outside run). Here's to #positivewingers!4 points

What no more mid winter 3:15pm starts at a frigid MCG? What will I do with myself? Maybe watch the replay of our prime time game.4 points

I think that only applies to club initiated activity? If the players want to do their own thing that is entirely up to them.4 points

What's the rule in the bargaining agreement regarding mandatory post-season break? I thought it was a 7 week gap between end of season and the next pre-season. Does this mean those players who are training are *takes a deep breath* scabs? More seriously, I hope the players who need the time off to repair their physical (and mental) damage are not feeling pressured to return too early.4 points

Remember that time Jack Viney and Tomald ended up in a punch-up? I'm a pacifist through-and-through, but it was pretty cool. Now what, they're training partners? Boo a bit.4 points

Absolutely amazing fitness and running power. It was like he was subbed on in the last quarter the way he moved so freshly. He was making his opponents eat dust with his running.3 points

Lingers runs a half marathon in every game, and still has the capacity to sprint 'on demand' to support team mates, provide an outlet or gain meters for the team. As stated by @Hopeful Dee above, his goal in the GF exemplified his outstanding work rate throughout 2021 Fantastic season, and a very important 'cog in the wheel'.3 points

Next season will be bigger and better and the players are gearing up for the intense stuff to come well prior to that season. As for the season itself, the Mighty Dees will unleash hell; there will be blood-letting for all opponents, there will be opponents forced to look wantonly heavenward for inspiration and counter-attack, there will be less direct interference across Demon games from umpire sympathies for those who dare to challenge our talents. Watch out, AFL, a new chapter is coming.3 points

i think we were generously reward 2nd half of last year as well. We played most of our games at night from memory. Still think we should get the privilege to kick start the season.3 points

Just checking and it looks like McGrath played 18 games compared to Woewodin 15 and Browne 14. Interestingly, Twomey had Browne in his U19 team of the year but he isn't in the top 30 of the draft. Averaged 32 touches at colts level and kicked 11 goals....3 points

Demons are the heavyweight champions who made the other premiership ‘contenders’ last finals campaign look like a bunch of bantam weights. When the “live” show arrives at the ‘G’ next season enjoy. Come rain or shine whoever.3 points

My happiness stems from the long, long wait and seeing people of all ages showing joy of immense proportions. Also, it is wonderful that I can now revisit at any time, the 2021 GF on my dvd in glorious colour. Something I haven't been able to do for the other 7 premierships I have had the good fortune to be around for. The other factor that makes me so happy is the group of young kids in our champion team( 9 under the age of 21). David Neitz and Nathan Jones must think, "Gee, I played over 300 games for my beloved Demons for no premiership medal while Jake Bowey has one after just 7 AFL games." These youngsters play with the composure of a veteran. Look at Bowey, no signs of nerves and 14, 17 and 19 disposals in his three finals appearances. Amazing. Tom Sparrow too thrilled me with his strength and beautiful, powerful kicking. Not to mention the brilliance of Jacko, Rivers and Kosie. Roll on season 2022.3 points

I’m sure this has been discussed before but one thing that really stood out for me and gives me enormous pride, was how all the playing list celebrated the victory on the field straight after siren and in the rooms afterwards. It was pure elation from every single one of them and I really feel this is because of the way group all year long spoke of unselfishness, team first etc. Maybe it’s because the entire list was there and I might have the blinkers on but I can’t remember seeing such unbridled joy from the non playing group after a Premiership! They are such a close unit and it’s awesome to see.3 points
