While he’s at it, he can also pick our next coach. What could go wrong?23 points

Probably one of the best players in the past 20 years at the club says he has problems with the club, and the President hasn't spoken to him or his family....... simply unbelievable!23 points

Just saw an article on 7 News in Brisbane about Neal Daniher's Fight MND charity organising and hosting a world first conference for the world's leading MND specialists to come up with coordinated programs to research and fight the disease. Was held at Junction Oval and Neal, Bec and their team seemed to be in attendance. Well done again Neal and family, and I could not have needed a good news story around the club more than at the moment.14 points

The worst interview from a ''leader'' I've heard. She's completely out of her depth. Hopeless is a word that comes to mind. How she hasn't been around to Petracca's parents house weeks ago is utterly extraordinary. To think the leader of the club hasn't even bothered to speak to one of our best players of the last 50 years when they're disgruntled beggars belief. She also thinks a club review isn't required. I'd remove her straight away if I had the power. I wasn't overly sympathetic to Petracca, but after that interview I have more questions than ever. And indeed more sympathy for Petracca than I had.13 points

So we've the Guru of recruiters in Jason Taylor and I see him as the person to kick-start things again We might lose a player or 2 in this off-season and contending for a flag next year or even 2026 might be a bit of a stretch but 2027? Finals in 2026 is an absolute probability if we recruit well We've still got a core group* of players who have a lot of experience and talent and a number of our younger players such as Rivers, McVee, Windsor, JVR and maybe Turner & Tholstrup have really come on So let JT work his magic at the draft as we might be able to manoeuvre ourselves into have a raft of picks to replenish the list. On the pick #5 thread I made a case that we could end up with 6 picks inside the top 30 (That's with the picks we might get back for Petracca if he goes) And that's without factoring in what we might get back for Kozzie if he departs (I don't believe he will leave though) As for the state of the club, we've probably got a few issues that need to get sorted out but it's not all doom & gloom. The current pile on has a lot of hearsay attached From a FD point of view and from an actual talent point of view, we can easily march forward *Our core group consists of Gawn, Viney, May, Lever, Rivers, Petty, Fritsch, Kozzie, JVR, Salem, Langdon, McVee, Oliver, T-Mac, Bowey, Melksham & Chandler Add in our up and comers and a raft of talent from the upcoming draft, and we're up and running again I'm confident that we will bounce back12 points

So Kate hasn’t spoken to Tracc or his family (lately) ”not my Job”??? She is living in fantasy land Clean out the office….11 points

We need to stop bumping player threads for a few days. I nearly had a full-blown panic attack that Luke Kenterfield might have asked the club to be traded to Coburg.10 points

First up. she knows nothing about footy and presiding over a footy club. If she did she would have visited Trac. She should have stayed as a board member with responsibility for the home base. her one task (and a big task at that) Pert should have done the interview. where is he? And whats the go with Brad Green. whats the point of having him on the board? The club need to stop trotting out the same lines. Stop treating us like fools. There are problems. Acknowledge them and tell us how you intend to deal with them. I can;t say i have confidence this will happen. External review needed. Peter Jackson to lead it.10 points

when i was president of my local soccer club, i literally spoke to the players ALL THE TIME. i WANT them to come to me with concerns ideas etc. i would never, ever touch tactics or team selection, thats the coaches job. but goddamn i wanted to know if theyre unhappy and why. so i could either fix it or explain why it is the way it is. she hasnt spoken to him or his family is absolutely gobsmacking.10 points

I read the Federal Court decision, and it does feel like the board has failed to get the balance right between stability and accountability. The rules were very much designed to make it almost impossible for a major change to be made at board level. While good for stability, it’s less so for accountability. The fact that the election rules had to be changed seven times within a couple of years doesn’t fill me with confidence. The issue could have been resolved in a much less fumbling manner. The decision went in the clubs favour, but only because they appeased almost every element of the application before the decision. The end outcome probably strikes a better balance between stability and accountability, but fighting it out in the Federal Court isn’t the best way to achieve it.9 points

Was happy to state that Kozzie is not leaving but couldn't say anything about Petracca because he hasn't spoken to him. She's a dead set liability9 points

I think it’s becoming clearer how this club went from what it was in 2021 to what it is now. Poor leadership from the top. She has to resign and step aside. Utterly pathetic and embarrassing.9 points

If anyone from the club is reading this forum I’d like to formally put my hand up to be drafted. Admittedly I am 46, and have no left foot, but I can absolutely promise you I have no desire to move closer to my family. Ever.9 points

Jesus have you ever shopped online or used social media? Because let me tell you the amount of personal information that random strangers have of you on the internet should be far more concerning to you. Peter doesn’t have your TFN and credit card details. He has your email address, the email address you gave the club when you signed up as a member and which you OPTED IN to receiving communication. He is not coming to your house at night to have a chat through your window. He sent you an email that you can read, or delete, or block. He did that because while you may not be interested, he knows that many of our members do in fact care about what he’s trying to achieve. I certainly don’t want my board to be run like a dictatorship. I pay a lot of money to be a member of this club and I want full transparency. It is the least we all deserve.8 points

After she made that comment, along with the one that "Joey from Moe" wouldn't be an MCC member, both crass, elitist , plain dumb and absolutely incorrect., I wrote to Ms Roffey. I was concise and polite, as a 50 year resident and worker in and around Moe, making it clear how I regarded her "throw away" (?) lines. I also pointed out how Bernie Vince played for the mighty Moe Lions after leaving the Demons, and former (2 games) player Declan Keilty is the current captain coach. Current Suns stars Bailey Humphrey and Sam Flanders are both from Moe. I was disappointed but hardly surprised she did not reply.7 points

I think CEOs are actually the main driver of culture. They manage every department. They need an aligned board. If you get a great playing group and everything goes right you can win a flag, but without an aligned board and CEO who are strong on culture success is inevitably fleeting. Brian Cook is the best CEO in the business. This is a really long watch but really great video about his thoughts, culture, and alignment. He totally sorted out West Coast from 1990-1998. Geelong's current era started with him becoming the CEO in 1999. He had a lot of issues to deal with during that time with a rebuild, player behaviour, coaches etc but stuck to his philosophy around culture. Geelong's outstanding culture over the past 20+ years was not driven by Bomber Thompson! I'm a bit worried about Carlton now that he is there. I preferred the 8 years prior when they never played finals.7 points

I'd be looking at him regardless of the Koz situation. Would also be very interested in Alex Davies.7 points

Seriously has everyone who commented here listened to the full interview? Were you already prejudiced and looking for an excuse to hang Pert and Roffey. Are they doing their job and sticking to their job decription. None of us are in a position to judge that just offer an opinion. In recent memory, Cam Schwab was vilified for getting too involved in the football department yet now when Kate clearly states she knows the lines of delineation and sticks to them. She stated that she had no recent conversation with the Petracca family. With respect to the question "has she directly spoken with Trac", and she said "No Comment" not recently because he and his amily haven't been around the club. She made it clear she only comments when she has all the information in front of her. Compare this to to the number of half-baked media blokes jumping around with their own spin looking for clicks. She said it so many times that she follows the process. That is what boards do they have a club structure that they oversee. The football department, and the leadership group etc all report to the board. She lets them go about their work. There is nothing worse than a meddling president. To be clear she made the following points Once Trac was in the trauma unit at the Alfred he came under the care of the state trauma service. This is a world-class trauma facility and they were responsible for Trac's care and wellbeing and most likely they still are. He was not under the care of the MFC medical team. They handed over once he went to Epworth and they handed over once they realised he had a blunt-force trauma injury and was treated appropriately She stated that Trac is always open to discuss his issues with her that just hasn't happened yet . He has had plenty of conversations with the team, footy department and leadership group . Is talking to Kate going to make a difference? She stated if anyone was listening that the club is in constant communication with Trac. Her last line was "We don't throw our players under the bus" when asked about culture. We don't trade them off, we work around homesickness and quoted both Kozzie & Petty being homesick with the latter signing a new contract and the former stating he isn't going anywhere. My expectation was that she would listen to Whateley's questions answer the ones that she could and fend off the ones that aren't for public knowledge. It certainly wasn't IMO a train wreck but may have fallen short of many who wanted an instant resolution and a miracle fix.7 points

Roffey might as well get on the Froffies, as she is done Make changes Demons and make them NOW. Not in February or April7 points

She’s presided over 3 strong years (including a flag) and then a step back that was just about inevitable this year. Or was after Oliver and Petty’s preseasons, Gus’ retirement and Tracc’s injury. 11 wins and a percentage around 100 wasn’t even that bad really. The issue isn’t the on field product this year even if it wasn’t good. The issue is rather than galvanise the playing group, spend cap space on bringing players in and/or hit the draft we have our best player desperate to leave and all sorts of other questions. Whether you blame the board for those issues is irrelevant, they have to have a plan to fix them. Instead of some semblance of a plan she’s offered nothing.7 points

This is just plain inaccurate. We didn’t want to give up Bedford and were very disappointed that he chose to leave. We had contract for him but he got a bigger one at GWS.7 points

How has she not spoken to trac? She's the president. I would have thought she'd be the one that needs to know why a player wants to leave. She needs to hear what's going on.7 points

#29 Ricky Mentha Defender | 179cm | 04/09/2006 Stats: 20 disposals, 4 marks, 3 rebound 50s Mentha has been recast as a defender during the back-end of the season and continued in that role over the weekend. He seems to have some of the spark and swagger of his bottom-age season back, with the Alice Springs native contesting the ball confidently and showcasing composure in possession. Mentha was involved in plenty of slow play across the backline and distributed the ball efficiently, while also repelling attacks with sharp intercepts and spurts of run.6 points

So we've hard Richo, Pert and Roffey all do interviews since the Trac stuff dropped, and i don't know about anyone else but right now every major leader of the club is reducing my confidence in the club, besides Goody who i think is presenting quite well given what he's got to work with. We're in a bad bad spot at the moment, and it feels like we hardly know any of what's actually gone on that's created the storm.6 points

Not even a marquee player- any player or staff that ends up in ICU due to a work related incident should have the club leader get in touch and offer support. That’s what a good culture is all about. Offering support in times of need. God I’m angry.6 points

How have we set a precedent? We have categorically stated we won't be trading Trac, and other than one half cocked media report yesterday, has the club said anything about Kosi wanting to leave, let alone that they will let him? Did his manager not come out a week ago and say he was happy at Melbourne? Expressing homesickness and a desire to get home more often is NOT the same as asking to leave. There are different challenges around ANB which neither you nor I have any right to know about. This is the private life of a player and his family, and the whole thing would have been done in a completely different way from both his and the club's perspective, if once again someone had not leaked it! Whoever did leak it, and I have no idea who it was, should be utterly ashamed of themselves. It was a pathetic betrayal of a much loved player, who equally has a lot of love for our club and is very much sad to leave.6 points

Peter is a friend of mine in fact I'm having coffee with him tomorrow. He's a very passionate Melbourne supporter who's donated a shed load of money to the club, he's also got a lot of supporters who support his cause. I told him at the start of the year that his popularity amongst the Demonland crowd was ordinary to say the least and perhaps he should give it a rest for a while, but he continued on anyway. Well I didn't support his attempt to get on the board, even though I thought he's make a great board member, because I think he's done his dash due to his persistence in challenging the board. I can see his point, it's a closed shop and you only get on the board if they want you. It seems as if they have a couple of directors resign from the board every year, before the election and they appoint temporary board members who become the board's preffered options and are generally elected because the outsiders can't get any traction. It's like the board pick their own replacements, that's not a good system. A board of yes men/women is not good in any business. Peter has been banned from donating any money to the club, he can't sponsor any players and can't attend any functions, is that how you treat a loyal MELBOURNE supporter. It's petulance on the part of the board for daring to challenge the status quo. The Board are not the club, they are only there to serve the interests of the club and to do this is a disgrace. To deny any member the chance to donate money to the club is a joke. Peter is asking for a full review of the club and this has my full support, for too long we've gone along and accepted the continued faillings of the club, I want this club to be a strong, not one that gets pushed around. Even if we are winning games we get no respect from the wider community because they know it won't last long. If you don't want a review of the club, then you are not interest in the ongoing success of the club.6 points

Love Roffey. We are so lucky to have a strong and brave leader in Kate. Thought her interview today was FANTASTIC. Go Dees!5 points

Isn't replacing the President and board where you start if we are to seek change? They set the direction of the club, they're the ones who can call for a review and set the parameters of such a process. They're the ones to intervene if something goes wrong that can't be adequately resolved at the lower levels. On the Petracca issue the Coach, CEO, President and Footy boss are all marching to the beat of the same drum which implies a level of complacency across all the leadership positions that has lead us to this point.5 points

One of the worst interviews I have ever heard from a Melbourne Football Club President in a very long time and I have been a member since 1998. That was embarrassing and Kate Roffey was ill prepared to give that interview. As harsh as it sounds, but that is unacceptable as a President of an AFL Club. No wonder Christian Petracca is upset. I am incredibly furious now at this disastrous situation! 🤬🤬🤬🤬5 points
