This is the same Mick Malthouse that recommended Neeld to Lyon when we were looking for a coach. The same Mick Mathouse that destroyed Carltons list and culture when he coached there. I just dont think he's credible enough to take seriously these days.13 points

recruiting him for a second rounder or trading him out for second rounder. what’s your specific issue? clearly he didn’t work as a fwd and clearly we already have the best ruck in the league. I personally thought he was worth the risk with very limited fwd options to trade in10 points

I honestly cannot understand how that Norf mark wasn't paid 50m in the last 2 mins. Two guys three steps over the mark. Clear as day. The sort of vision the umpires boss would use to explain giving a 50. Clarko will go bizerk at the AFL over the umpires. It's too easy to say that Norf only have themselves to blame, but had the correct decision been paid, we would be congratulating them on a victory well deserved. The difference was a wrong decision by an umpire.10 points

Can never understand why people get their knickers in a knot when outside people the club comment on Melbourne after all that's what this forum does.9 points

I have to agree with the article by Mick Malthouse. However, I think it is commonly known that he hates the Melbourne Football Club.8 points

Im hardly a Pert fan but this is brain dead stupid: “When Demons’ CEO, Gary Pert declared on radio in October last year that: “Our culture at the club … is the best I’ve seen in 40 years”, that one statement opened the club up to immense scrutiny and a whole host of critics waiting for the club’s downfall. It, in effect, loaded up the club with pressure it couldn’t handle.” Our downfall has mostly been poor list management, perhaps some fitness but also a new game plan and natural playing group turnover and fatigue. It’s hard to be up for more than 3 years. It’s hard to reinvent a side to play a new way. Has anyone written about Richmond’s culture for their collapse in 2022 and this year? Our focus should be addressing any cultural issues for sure, but apart from that we need to keep stressing the culture is overwhelmingly good. Gawn, Viney, Tracc, ANB, Lever, Salem, Langdon, Chandler and so many more make it the best playing group culture we’ve had in decades. And I’d include the coaches in that too. Hard workers with close bonds to the players. The challenge is to fix what needs to be fixed - which might involve a few changes for cultural reasons - but overwhelmingly to ignore whatever point Mick is actually trying to make and stay the course.7 points

While I don't disagree with most of his comments there is a hidden agenda at play here. For his own selfish reasons, he's written this whole article to turn the blow torch up on Gary Pert, the man who along with Eddie McGuire transitioned him (sacked) from the top coaching job at Collingwood.7 points

Because they're precious bunch lol.. Our form will attract the criticism it deserves. Only way to silence them is by winning the games we should be winning.6 points

If we lose: "Sack the coach". "Burn the joint down". "I'm cancelling my membership". "Wooden spoon". If we win: "It was only North". "Should have won by more". "Do it against a good team". "Sack the coach".6 points

Collingwood signed him to a 10 year deal and mis-counted the money and had to ship him out for almost nothing with 5 years to go5 points

better than Gawn? lol not even close so you think we should play them together like last year? please answer the question5 points

no point keeping him on the list when neither he or Max could play forward. if you want to be critical then have a pop at the club for trading him in. Trading him out was the right thing to do.5 points

Mmmm, the only club with cultural issues. Uh huh. Let's think back to WCE during the mid 00's, or individuals of the Hawthorn, Geelong and even Tigers teams. during the 00's and 10's. There is a serious, serious issue with linking nonperforming teams and having that code for 'cultural issues'. But it is the court of public perception and people don't mind drinking that kool aid... It's low hanging fruit. I also get that people don't see it my way.5 points

Looking at this score line it’s hard not to believe that we are genuinely the worst side in the comp right now….5 points

Yeah the same Mick Malthouse that is also a 3x Premiership Coach, 1x AFLCA of the year, 2x All Australian coach and a premiership player himself. So easy to spot the cons that ALL coaches carry with them huh..5 points

Whateley makes me physically ill. He's a creepy ,spineless little blowfly and I can't really watch or listen to him. Don't know why. He just creeps me out. I know it's irrational but thats the truth.5 points

We now have no Trac, no Brayshaw and an Oliver and Petty on half rat power . On top of this we have maybe 3 players or more hobbling through their final season ....and no Joel Smith. So I wonder what there is to realistically hope for in 2024. We aint winning a flag without Trac and the rest of the above...that much is clear. So on one hand I could say what would be theoretically best is a full capitulation, a clean out and some good draft picks a la 2019 and maybe a good FA or trades. But there's a looong way to go in 2024 and I don't like the feel of that enough to hope for it. On the other I think we could still push for a finals birth and, if we got there and won one, I reckon that would be impressive with the reality of our 24 list ... and we could at least get that "straight sets" monkey off our back. Barring that I'd like to at least see them refind their mojo, energy and connection and build for a decent 2025 shot. Maybe see a few younger players tried and assess with more clarity? Any thoughts?4 points

Or just keep him on the list to stop a contender from having an awesome ruck? Wasn't costing us a fortune...4 points

Finish 7-8 and win one final. That would feel more successful than 2022 & 2023.4 points

I welcome an opinion, but I hope the West Australian didn’t pay too much for that article. It literally has no new information, and even not much of a unique opinion. It’s just a retelling of events. I wish my job was that easy.4 points

- Kolt to play and look comfortable - AMW debut - Laurie to hopefully start to show something and get some midfield time - JVR to have a purple patch - The entire team to begin to embrace/understand flowing ball movement and the basic concept of the fat side - Fritsch to sub or Casey Oliver, Viney, ANB, Pickett, Salem, Rivers, Kolt, Laurie, Chandler all to see centre bounce time.4 points

internally yes but Goodwin and the coaching team have mostly escaped it. Schwartz has really been the only one to externally in the media question Goodwin's tenure.4 points

Read Ch7 Interview with brody grundy about his MFC experienece and our culture. Dropped online today . Couldn't be more different, in a posiitve way, than the media white noise from those on the outside - as opposed by someone from the inside with no agenda to push, like clicks. Swans ( incl them having JJ) are now my second team for this season.4 points

Our best in form wins came against Port Adelaide, Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs. Can't count St Kilda as a one of our best wins lol. They're absolutely crud.. No coincidence that BB played alright in those games where we had blokes like ANB and Langdon playing their natural position.4 points

You need a mix of inside bull and speed in the middle or you need to get speed on the ball with your movement. Windsor, Rivers, Kozzie have it and we have shown interest in Cody Angove so no doubt the list is moving towards having more leg speed4 points

Whateley says: "Collingwood captain Darcy Moore and midfielder Jack Crisp both asked Petracca whether he should be on the ground given what they were seeing up close." Doubt that info came from a demon player or mfc. So it is the Pies PR machine again telling the world what 'good guys' 🤮they are.? I thought Whateley was better than to write an article where a few facts are dispersed in a diatribe of supposition and uninformed opinion. Lost any cred he had imv. As for Coll there are no words to describe the depth of my loathing for that club.4 points

You are delusional if you think Shcache was a better option than Grundy Our list has been ruined by a very stubborn man4 points

whateley on sen with laura kane was like a dog with a bone - he just wouldn't accept that 'doctors know best' he's a good commentator when he's calling the game, but he's a pretentious poindexter4 points

If we had Sydney's midfield and system going inside 50, we wouldn't need him. No one would be talking about how poor our forward line was and JVR, Fristch, Pickett and hell maybe even Petty would be looking like superstars. How many here would have said yes to Tom Lynch if he was available? Anyone see how ineffectual he was last night when Richmond were getting it in slow and high to him, just like we do? Our midfield is what needs all the attention.3 points

Don't overrate Grundy's game. He played against a bloke with half a dozen games and didn't do a lot of damage. 61% of his disposals were inefficient. He got 13 disposals in the last quarter when the game was over and only 38% of those were efficient. There is a reason why ruckman need to stay out of the mids way. Especially when you have mids like Warner, Heeney and Gulden. Grundy is useful in so far is own hit zone. Once again zero contested marks and only 180 m gained for 31 disposals. The media will love it and keep talking him up, while oppo coaches will keep being happy if he gets big numbers and keeps giving it back. The swans are playing amazing footy at the moment and everything is papered over by winning. I can recall the 2019 prelim when Grundy's 73 hitouts won the Giants the game! He has a bad habit of creating scores for the opposition through poor ruck work or poor disposal. The goal to Lachie Sholl the perfect example last night. Defensively, he is poor one on one. I look forward to seeing how he fares over the next few games. Briggs; Darcy/Jackson; Marshall then Xerri. All quite a bit better than Strachan. Grundy is in the right place now, but in fairness to both Collingwood and Melbourne, he had been poor since he signed the big contract. Collingwood have proven they are better without him and Melbourne never really found a useful purpose for him and he certainly wasn't demanding selection. And Collingwood are still paying a fair bit for him too!3 points

Nar mate. They’ll have learned their lessons from 2022. I know you have massive skin in the game this year with the hope that Carlton will knock off Sydney in the grand final. But Sydney are on a different planet this year and will win the flag accordingly. If they don’t, then Longmire really needs to cop it from the media as that will be 1-4 in grand finals.3 points
-
as one of the commentators said today, or a variation on it - "grundy is fantastic when he can work himself into the game throughout the course of play" which is true it's also what sets gawn apart as the best ruckman ever having them together in the same side was just a waste of two incredible talents3 points

Thanks DD I agree with Timothy R-A, we weren’t monstered as much as the score board showed. Forward efficiency and accuracy were our killers but the loss of Christian Petracca has sent us all into a spiral and I’m not sure what will pull us out of it.!!!3 points
