Coach says nothing. Demonland: "Why isn't the club explaining what is going on? Where's our Comms Team?" Coach gives interview. Demonland: "Blah blah blah. Talk is cheap. Let's see some action."14 points

[censored] these posts are tiresome. Do you say this in response to every word uttered by an MFC person after a loss? Goodwin’s fronted up to a pre-arranged interview and has answered a bunch of questions more thoroughly than he usually would. Including what may be the concession many needed to hear - that the changes we’ve made aren’t working and have robbed us of our identity. Literally no one reads these articles and goes “OK all is fine now”. We all wait to see what actually happens on game day. So FFS do we have to run the “talk is cheap” thing every [censored] time?11 points

Good on Norf. I remember those days when a H&A win was rare and felt like winning a GF.8 points

Didn't the skipper just the other day question our culture? For mine Monday's game is just so important. I still can't believe whats occurred over the last 3 weeks. Even though I was pretty harsh on us prior to the season I still had us finishing anywhere from 1 - 12. Prior the WC game I was feeling pretty good even after losing to Carlton again. But sheesh WC followed up by Freo?? I have no idea where we stand as a team atm, I'm leaning toward all talk but we still have just enough time to surge. I do believe we load at this time and trust that we've set ourselves for the Pies. To have any 2024 cred we kinda have to win this.7 points

I am exactly the same. This is the first ever King/Queen's Birthday match I will miss since I had a uni exam clash with a game about 15 years ago (which I tried getting out of! ha). I cannot bring myself to attend this game, after what happened last year. I have been a paid up members for 25 years, I pay for one of the most expensive memberships every single year, regardless of whether we are winning flags or wooden spoons, and I attend games religiously. But I made a decision after our finals exit last year, that I can no longer allow football to impact my life. There has to be other priorities, namely my mental wellbeing. It's why I am choosing to watch this game from home. Of course if it was our home game I would attend without a second thought, but I refuse to engage with the verbally and emotionally abusive Pies fans. Edit: and if anyone wants to suggest that I am not a true supporter because I am choosing not to attend this match, they can frankly get [censored]! I challenge them to compete with the number of matches I have attended in my life, including while very unwell, with broken limbs, shortly after a death in the family, and through just about everything else.7 points

Glad to see this thread is cranking up as the game draws closer 😐 If we deliberately go out and hunt Maynard, I will know that our era is over and we aren't fair dinkum about winning anything anymore. All this 'square up' talk is so antiquated and pathetic. People demanding that we do it because we as a club 'bent over' and apparently let this happen? Bottom 4 club mentality, focus on football.6 points

It was one thing to go through the experience of watching Gus get ironed out, losing by a whisker and then being abused by pies supporters after the siren when they won anyway. It was icing on the cake sitting next to the AFL marketing team at lunch in a restaurant the following day. Their complete focus was not on the final series but how they could leverage maximum value for their commercial partners. I appreciate that's their job but seriously, half of them didn't even watch the whole game the night before. It really turned me off going to AFL games completely. Still love the game, local footy and the Dees, but I'm not up for the whole bombastic BS they offer. Go Dee's and love ya Gus6 points

Yes that would not surprise at all. Some of the harsh critics tend to brush over some of these potential unkowns (outside of clubland) This would explain his seemingly 'outside' style game of late and looking a tad lost at times while out there. He is also roughly 25% off his 2023 contested & clearance averages to date. Although his tackling is coming right back up to almost 2023 levels @5.8 per match over the last 6 weeks vs 6.3 in 2023. It might also explain his reduced attendance at CBs vs Freo. Down 12% on 2024 average (70%) to 58% in this game. And down 23% on his 2023 average of 81%. His overall ave CBA so far this season is down 11% on 2023. My gut feel is it may have flared a little post the Saints and we are now looking to nurse him into the bye with less time at CBA. Maybe we are looking for a managed situation from there. Giving him some time out with the bye and possibly adding to that the match against North in order to assist with any hand / fitness / soreness issues?6 points

So what you’re saying is, he could have at least played the second half. No wonder we are in crisis with this level of mismanagement6 points

Thanks, WCW and may I remind everyone it isn't long ago Clayton had major surgery on his hand. I met him. at a function just before his return game, his hand was seriously swollen. I am not entirely convinced he has full confidence in that hand yet or that this the reason he isn't in the middle as much6 points

I get this but I believed at the time (and still do) that losing Brayshaw at that stage of that game cost us the premiership. And now our window looks close to closed to me. Not to mention the implications for Brayshaw himself. It was pretty consequential.6 points

Agreed. No bump and we go close to a flag, and have an a grade player this year Bump and no flag and no player and the filth get a flag. There is no karma in footy.5 points

I can’t believe I am watching Fox at the moment and they haven’t talked about that umpiring decision yet. I think I need to step back from watching so much AFL, I am finding myself getting frustrated with the umpiring in neutral games. The standard and inconsistency since the AFL went to four umpires has diminished dramatically in my view.4 points

Ready to hate them again as needed, but right now I don’t. Loved that for them. That felt satisfying to me like a Dees win.4 points

Well done Kangas. Only Collingwood should ever go through a season winless.4 points

Dont mean to come across as a smart [censored] but they only give one days notice for Thursday, Friday and, as it appears, Monday games. I don't like it either and we should have at least had an extended squad tonight in my opinion. Bit of a joke that the senior team may not be announced before your reserves have played a game.4 points

Some people enjoy being miserable. How you deal with disappointment is a choice - I don’t know why some people choose self-flagellation over and over.4 points

According to Libby Birch, it sounds as if collectivey clubs are taking a different approach to their high performance programs this year. And then there is individual program differences- eg the cats model of managing players ad opposed to ours of not doing so. But I was more referring to the bye period. Every year for the last 5 years or so there are crazy results around the mid point of the season. A big factor is the accumulative fatigue all teams experience at the half way point of the season. Another is the aforementioned differences in programs, including when they do a big block of intensity and density and how they manage the bye period. It's all made worse by the AFL's greed. They should go back to all teams having their bye at the same time. But that ain't gonna happen because the AFL, nor fox and 7, dont want a football free weekend. So instead we have the ridiculous situation of byes being spread over several weeks meaning it's all over the place in terms of when teams play each other - eg, both coming off a bye, only one coming off a bye, one team not yey having their bye and the other 2 weeks post bye etc etc. And this year it's even more absurd with the teams playing in OR having 2 byes. It is just ridiculous.4 points

If Luker and the footy club were fair dinkum, they could have had him sprinting up and down the aisle of the plane for three hours, lifting heavy luggage in and out of the overhead lockers and practising his goalkicking by punting those little bags of complimentary peanuts towards the dunny door.4 points

Looks like he has the potential to develop a strong AFL body. Has big shoulders. He may well develop into a good player. Clubs are going for the 195 to 200 cm KP's. This may be one reason he was overlooked in last years draft. A bit like when smaller mids were overlooked in favour of the bigger types. Some bargains were had with some overlooked smaller type mids. The 193cm JVR looks way smaller than some of his KPD opponents. But power, strength, skill and ability more than makes up for size.4 points

You know some people are capable of both? It's my view I'm putting forward on this forum about how it's hard to move past the incident and how it played out last year, both in the media, the tribunal, but also in how sycophantic the commentary is about how tough a player Maynard is. He's still a thug that snipes people as a defender, he ruined Gus's career, we've lost a player that we sorely need in our midfield at the moment. I'll still be watching the game as many people will. Others can't seem to bring themselves to, but that's ok too.4 points

Certainly not anything like to skinny kids we picked 10-15 years ago. In fact looks strong and muscular. And speaks in a mature manner. We definitely could be on to something here. Does anyone have any information regarding his tank at this stage? I wonder if he could even step up if needed late this season? Looks physically almost ready.4 points

What a load of [censored]. There's lots of reasons why people might not financially support the club, especially these days, but it doesn't mean they don't love the dees any less. I myself see my family's financial memberships as a charity contribution (esp. over the 2010's decade and my paid up wife rarely ever comes). Does that make my fam. any less of a supporter? Does anyone who doesn't get down to watch training any less of a supporter? If you don't get to every single Melbourne based game, home or away, does that make you any less of a supporter?4 points

Hmmm, each to their own, but I believe the AFL and AA let down Angus and the MFC on that night. So not sure why that moment caused you to hold back on your membership to the MFC. The AFL all but admitted that this needed to be made an illegal action by banning it this year. But they absolutely squibbed that night, the MFC didn't really have much more that they could do, only the AFL could appeal, but again that can only be done on an error in judgement. AA presented a pathetic case. AFL didn't want to detract from their finals series and were not prepared to take on the Pies upon appeal...4 points

Funnily enough Luker was at Footy training with Subi when his coach told him that he better check his phone. The kids head would have been spinning.😁😁4 points

Just watched him on the Dees website you are right WCW another excellent recruit confident and self assured but humble as well. He said that JT rang him on the Monday night and wished him good luck in the draft and he didn’t know that he had been drafted until his coach told him at training that he better check his phone. Really like the look and sound of him.😁😁4 points

I’m sick to death of all this Maynard stuff & the excuses of certain supporters, harden up & get to the game if you can, the season is on the line, we need all the support we can get. Imagine how good it will be when we win!!!4 points

The AFL are a disgusting organization their rule parameters are always pliable to suit the latest scenario. To allow Maynard to play on with zero consequences should have gone to Court. Like others, i am still furious4 points

For me high up on the ‘hate list’ is Cox and Maynard (and used to include Ginnivan). That aside they are a very good side and play an exciting brand of football. It is their supporter base that l absolutely despise. No better example was when the ferals last year started chanting ‘Collingwood’ while Brayshaw was knocked out cold. It made me very angry. Still am! The KB game for me is ‘our little final in June’. I just don’t want us to win, I want to see Collingwood get smashed….so that I can soak up the crowd atmosphere. (Even better in some ways when we will be vastly outnumbered). GO DEES.4 points
