i understand people wanting to 'bring players back via the vfl' but the history of this current football administration simply doesn't do it they've clearly made the determination that a 'best team' player is better off getting run through their legs at the highest level, not the lower i think you'll find that's more the norm for modern afl clubs than not so feel free to pine for that older mentality of 'bringing players back via the vfl' i would argue it simply doesn't happen in modern sport at the top level15 points

6-0 against fellow contenders is a fantastic record. Sydney deserving flag favourites at this stage8 points

I have heard whispers a few clubs including us may be keen on Hamish Davis with a late pick (3rd/4th round). Played as (medium size) key forward last season at PSA and WAFL, however been playing HHF, wing and inside midfield roles this year. Good tank, decent size for that fwd/mid role and can impact the scoreboard. Plenty of development there and has the right attitude8 points

Hats of to the suns, they obviously prepared super well. But it's worth noting that the cats were also playing their 3rd game in 12 days. The first was their incredibly taxing loss against the dees. Six days later, they come out flat as a tack on a chilly friday night in geellong against port, flighting their way back to a close loss in another taxing match. Six days later they are playing their third game in 12 days in 30 plus degree heat and humidity just about as far north from kardinia Park as you can get. Without their two best players and choosing to rest others. Great preparation by the suns, they obviously set themselves for the darwin double, a ground they have won their last 5 at by an average of 50 plus points. But the cats simply could not handle those conditions at all - totally gassed from the get go. Witches hats. Makes our effort in similar conditions against the swans look more meritorious.8 points

Gold Coast, 3 games in 12 days, 2 in 5 days in Darwin's oppressive heat, this one against 2nd on the ladder?? Did i read that right? I was assured on 'Land that you can't possibly win these games?... due to bodgie fixturing8 points

What I noted in his last three losing press conferences was that he never mentioned the opposition team by name, not even once! (In contrast the opposition coaches all made ‘positive’ mentions of Geelong) The only exception to this being that he named one opposition player (Horne Francis). I oh so hope that GWS get the job done next weekend. Imagine, four losses in a row. Beautiful 🤞7 points

Reading this thread, about how good James Jordon is, I am now convinced. We should have kept him and traded Petracca or Oliver.6 points

Let’s face it. Until they played us they had only beaten one top 8 team (Blues), and even in that win let in 105 points. I’m not sure Scott really knows who the good teams are this year as they have hardly played any of them.6 points

That would be nice. Sydney are likely finishing top this year, but second place is very much up for grabs this year, and let's face it there is almost no benefit in finishing 1st compared to 2nd under the finals format. Therefore it's beneficial for Sydney to win against all the other contenders as it stands right now.6 points

Very surprised that with Langdon out we have ignored Lachie Hunter. Worried about covering Langdon’s run. He is a workhorse. Love positive Lingers..hope he is ok6 points

I'm very laid back and relaxed about this game. What could possibly go wrong?6 points

Hayden Young would be the one I’d love to pinch back, but he looks pretty settled at Freo.6 points

Sydney is a team of supreme athletes that can kick. It’s the name of the game now.5 points

I think GWS offered him a permanent starting 22 role, and that’s what he really wanted and couldn’t get at Melbourne.5 points

Love it! A few observations... Great kick from Hibberd to the goal square incredible strength from TMac I wish we had Cam Pedersen on the list today Horrible jumper5 points

Its been that way since Burgess took over the high perfroamnce program. As evidence Selwyn has the same philosophy, just this year alone we have had Tmac, BBB, Petty, Oliver and Bowey all coming back from injury (with the first four clearly being a little underdone) and being selected in the ones as opposed to coming though the magoos. Salem will make it six such examples this weekend.5 points

We did it. We broke Geelong. Watching other teams feast on the corpse is a bit like being the leopard which has been harassed off a kill by hyenas, but we did get our meal and the hunt was excellent, too. Geelong likely to be in sixth by the end of the round and out of the 8 by their round 14 bye.5 points

I know the Darwin venue and the shorter breaks will have impacted, but I think (hope?) this might be an insight into the potential cliff that actually is coming for Geelong. Their missing players were Dangerfield, Hawkins, Duncan, Stanley, Cameron and De Koning. The first five are over 30, and there has to be a strong argument that the first four won’t play beyond this season. Without them, they were 11 goals behind a mid-table side (who themselves had a couple of outs). They’ll no doubt be throwing cash to whichever midfielder is available this year because their midfield is no good.5 points

He looked at the humidity and was like "the pre game oiling will be utterly useless up there, I am out"5 points

Goody doesn’t put a new player for us in without announcing it first. On that basis I don’t see Fullarton playing, unless a tall was a late out. I was very impressed with Woey’s cameo against Carlton. He got plenty of it and his disposal was perfect. Hopefully he can get a run at it and become a best 23 player. He is reasonably versatile.5 points

I must be the only one with a negative story about Max. Saw him and his wife one night, and asked for a selfie. He looked like he was going to punch me! So I asked again - very politely - and he got even angrier, started yelling and swearing and said he was going to call the cops. I actually felt threatened for my safety at that point, so I left his house. Just a warning to others that he's not as approachable as he seems.5 points

Just the 7 listed AFL players. Probably the most depleted Casey team I've seen in a long time.4 points

I'm not sure this is uncomfortable for many. We rated Jordan enough to offer him a 3 year contract and he was regularly in our best 23, in fact we selected him in that best 65 times over three years. Bedford 16 times in his last season with us I'm sure we said to both of them that we faith in them improving and becoming a more permanent fixture in our best 22, but also that the next steps of their development were around how hard they worked and where they developed. I'm sure both the players and the club understood they'd need to push someone out of the team. So when an opposition club comes and says "here is our best 22, and this is your position and your role" and you ask them who the competition for that spot it, and their answer is players you believe you have comfortably covered, then it's not a surprise what they chose - the guarantee of play time.4 points
-
Yes. Play someone as a sub for 11 games in a season … then offer a contract. Jordon and Bedford weren’t given the opportunity and saw better chances elsewhere. That’s the uncomfortable truth of it.4 points

Max thrives on being the big dog, no other ruckman can keep up with him, we tried with Grundy looked what happened. He will get a few little chop outs during the game Looking likely to being a 7xAA ruckman this year4 points

@JeremyI think you'll find @binman is sarcastically saying there is a misconception that Bedford was pushed out and had no contract offer.4 points

Not intensity so much as accumulated load at high speed. Either way, if he’s completed rehab and ticked all the boxes, risk is minimised for ANY game type.4 points

This has now actually become a pretty big game for us. Cats could end up losing 10% plus. Say we add 3 or 4%. We finish tge round equal points with the cats, and 13% plus clear. And the blues play the swans at the scg. The blues are also on 24 points but are only on 109% If the blues lose, we could be a game and 15% plus clear of them. That's a big gap for the blues to fall behind us Dogs beating the giants would be the cherry on top.4 points

I will add one more ruckman not allowed to make contact at boundary throw ins until the ball is in the air sick of watching ruckman grapple, scrag around the neck.4 points

As disappointing as last weeks 1pt loss was, the next best thing is to save % in this ever so close comp. We’ve done it twice, Lions and Blues.3 points

Well, Geelong got flogged. Can’t imagine there isn’t a very good reason. NOT AN EXCUSE, ITS NOT AN EXCUSE But I do wonder the reason for it… illness, distracting troubadours, whatever it may be… BUT DONT YOU DARE SAY THAT THESE ARE EXCUSES These Geelong people will attack you upside the head with reams of public money. Against us they were off. Against Port he ranted about the umpires. Scott bingo. What will his excuse be in this presser? I'm picking schedule. Conditions are tough.3 points

Massive difference is that KP is exclusive training and home ground for Geelong. MCG is shared by 4+ clubs and is used several times each weekend, as well as test and other forms of cricket3 points

On this point surely Kayo should have a setting that allows you to at least mute commentary from broadcasts while retaining the other sounds. In this digital age it shouldn't be difficult and would make watching matches so much more enjoyable.3 points
