Saying that Taylor has an awful record outside the top 2 rounds is like saying that Tony Lockett has an awful record outside of taking marks and kicking goals.22 points

We simply need to add to our list if we want a top four spot next year so I'm intrigued to see what we do this trade period. Significant growth will no longer come from our core who are entering their prime and Max, May, T Mac, BB will all be on the decline. We have a window of crazy opportunity whilst our more senior players are still in strong form. And I think it's time to make some tough calls on roles to Harmes, Hunt, Sparrow, Jordan, and ANB. I'd like some more dynamic players added to those positions and players who display attributes that compliment those of our core. Foot skills, composure, speed. Needs to happen, Sydney, Collingwood, Brisbane and Carlton are not going away. And then there's a whole host of sides who will see big growth from their younger brigade. We need to be aggressive.14 points

Blake Howes and Taj Woewodin 2021 Yet to debut. 2018 Nietsche, Hore, Bedford, Chandler 2017 Petty, Baker Had no 3rd round picks in 2019 and 2020 Wouldn't call it awful. What is the success rate for 3rd and later rounds AFL wide?12 points

deven robertson looks like a variation on the sparrow theme - a second or third rotation mid type i fail to see a huge attraction when we already have sparrow and jordon in that same spot12 points

Time to go and get Deven Robertson. We loved him in his draft year. He is apparently unhappy with lack of games at Brisbane and with Dunkley and Ashcroft coming in, that means he potentially has even less game-time now. Brisbane will need picks to satisfy the Dogs and to get Ashcroft as F/S. I hope we ask the question. He would be an upgrade on Harmes, Jordon, Sparrow or ANB at the least.12 points

RAINING PREMIERS by KC from Casey If the threatening dark grey skies that loomed above Ikon Park before the VFL Grand Final didn’t provide a sufficiently inhospitable reception for our visitors from sunny Queensland, the rains that bucketed down after quarter time certainly did. For years, the Casey Demons have welcomed opposing teams at their home fortress with rain, hail, wind and frosty conditions and it was just Southport’s luck that they met those conditions head on in the VFL’s big dance. They suited Casey’s skillful players backed by a couple of hardened veterans of the competition right down to the sodden ground. Both during and after the deluge, the Sharks struggled. They were held to a mere two goals after quarter time while the Demons piled on eight to march away with the flag to the tune of 38 points. In truth, the Casey Demons would most likely have won in any weather conditions as they demonstrated throughout 2022 when they won 20 out of 21 games played, ironically losing their only match in balmy South East Queensland to the Brisbane Lions a month ago. But they were never going to lose this one. For starters, they were a team replete with 16 AFL-listed players of varying levels of experience and size backed up by two lion-hearted hard nosed performers in captain Mitch White and the brutal hard-tackling Jimmy Munro in the midfield. Both the skipper and the trusty Munro have been at the wheel in previous unsuccessful premiership campaigns but played in losing grand finals in 2016 and 2018. On Sunday, they were indefatigable in their attack on the ball and their opponents. White (29 disposals, 13 tackles) was a fitting recipient of the Norm Goss Memorial Medal for the best afield in the VFL grand final while Jimmy Munro was close behind with 21 touches including a goal plus an incredible 17 tackles. With those tackle counts, they wore down the solid-mature bodied Southport outfit and allowed players of the calibre of Luke Dunstan, Toby Bedford, Kade Chandler and Oskar Baker to create enough regular forward thrusts to break the game apart. In the end, it was the brilliance up forward of Jake Melksham who kicked the opening goal to add three more in the final term to ice up the game. Mitch Brown was another experienced hand up forward who contributed a couple of goals. Premierships are rarely won without having a superb defence and here, Casey excelled through the agency of Adam Tomlinson, Joel Smith, Daniel Turner, Matt Buntine, Corey Ellison and rookie Judd McVee. They were certainly helped by the conditions but, after the first break they were so miserly that they hardly let the wind and rain through and warmed the hearts of coach Mark Corrigan and the fans. Special mention needs to be made of the continuing emergence of Sam Weideman as a ruckman. He held his own against a much bigger opponent and his mobility around the ground was crucial to Casey’s effort in denying the Sharks the first use of the football. Although they weren’t prolific ball winners on the day, the likes of Jacob Van Rooyen, Taj Woewodin and Bailey Laurie all showed enough to suggest that there’s a lot more in store for the Demons from players of their calibre. And there ended a brilliant season from the Casey Demons with the first flag under the new banner of a century old club. Long may they reign. Harmes should not be traded . He is one of our few mid size athletic players who can match the sydney types like Heney Mills etc -we need more of these types . And he is a damn good footballer - no way .11 points

Watched the game from home was very impressed with the Sharks skill level and size they came out of the blocks hard and fast, pretty decent skill levels as well. I thought we might be in a bit of trouble but loved the way our Casey boys worked their way back into the game White and Munro were enormous, Dunstan, Chandler, Bedford, Baker and Weid played huge games. Thommo, Turner, Smith we’re strong in defence, Melksham, Brown, JVR and Woewodin all chipped in in the forward line. A great team effort and very deserved and satisfying win after being the best team all year, I might add very well coached as well. I might add very well supported as well and how good was it to see all senior players, coaches and Former champs in the crowd. Special thanks to KC, Werridee and all posters who are able to attend games and keep us informed, particularly from the Casey side re players, etc.❤️💙✅💕11 points

Went along with the family; loved showing my 18 year old what going to the fotty in the old days was like. We wound up on the Northern wing in front of the old members stand. The 1sts were ensconced in the back of the stand and got pretty vocal as the game wore on. AFL Stand outs for me were Chandler - worked hard all day Weid - Tireless against a significantly bigger body Woey - A real surprise packet. Excellent field position and game awareness Melky - Too good for this level Disco - Blue collar solid AVR - Battled hard on a day designed specifially to NOT showcase his skills My son who stood out in the rain for the duration while faint hearts saught shelter - a true next generation Demon diehard11 points

Well Spargo had a very ordinary year, so there is a spot there. How long can they persist with Spargo it's been a year. He's a must keep for mine his pace is something we lack. The player that must get a game has been knocking heavily on the door in the last half of the year is Chandler superb in the Grand Final and his last half of the year was just as good. If Melbourne are serious Spargo has to start at Casey and earn his spot again.11 points

Yep, i might be in the minority, i just dont think Bedford is a senior AFL footballer. I would be more than happy to trade him if it allowed some other trades to happen. Bedford wont come back to haunt us, i believe anyway. Chandler is a more well rounded player.10 points

Not sure why people want to write Tom off. A lot only appreciate him when he isn’t there. He has had his issues but always looks after himself and I am confident he will come up after this set back.10 points

Well two years after the Treloar fiasco they were 1 point away from a GF so it can't be that bad. And with Grundy gone for them, they'll have further room for exploration and the ability to retain some other players. Bad calls at the time of both Treloar and Grundy's deals but it's hard to fault their ability to rebound. Their list is in a very good spot.9 points

Someone on here said that Tom was having the metal clip removed Thursday. My source tells me he is having more scans as it doesn't appear to be a recurrence of the Lisfanc which would be great news.9 points

The Brownlow is not given to the best player of the year its given to the best midfielder in a team that does not have other great midfielders. Eg Cripps, Neale, Wines, Priddis i really don’t understand the prestige around this award. Coaches award is a way more prestigious award imo8 points

I'll answer the question for you. Picks over #40 since 2017: 2017: Oska Baker (pick 48, 3rd round) - still on our list 2018: Aaron Nietschke (pick 53, 3rd round) - retired due to 3 ACL's 2018: Marty Hore (pick 56, 4th round) - played a valuable role in 2019 when we had a big injury list. Had an ACL injury and retired. 2018: Toby Bedfored (pick 75, 5th round) - still on our list and seemingly in demand by other clubs 2019: Zero selections. Highest pick #32: Trent Rivers. Premiership player 2020: Zero selections. Highest pick #35: Fraser Rosman, taken as a 'project player' and still on our list. 2021: Zero selections. Late pick used for Taj Woewodin taken as F/S - still on the list. I'm not sure what your definition of 'fail' is but I don't see any on that list. Look carefully and you will see that for the last 3 years JT has, I think deliberately, not used a pick over #35 preferring to trade later picks up or trade them out for future picks. I really don't know what you are on about criticising JT for his later round selections! Drafting from rounds 1 and 2 and cash in the rest looks a damn good policy to me.7 points

Huge thanks to KC from Casey for all your intrepid reporting of our maggoos. Top shelf work - you must be thrilled with a flag!7 points

Congratulations to Cripps. He's a worthy medallist, just as Miller, Oliver, Neale et al would've been. He's been an excellent player for a long time. I watched Gawn get ripped off in 2018, when he was clearly the best player in the comp (AFLCA winner) and he didn't even poll the most votes in his team - Brayshaw 3rd and Gawn 4th. We are very fortunate to have so many outstanding players at the same time who have combined to give us one flag and hopefully one or two more still to come. It's a team game and there's one medal every Brownlow winner would trade it for, including Cripps. Oliver, Petracca and Gawn and 20 of their mates already have one of those.7 points

2013 we polled 16 votes. The Eagles now hold the record for the least amount of team votes. Go ahead and laugh it up because they sure were laughing at us back then.7 points

Has the club confirmed the details of the injury or are we just speculating here7 points

I didn’t watch a second of it but saw that Lachie Neale got one vote in the round 23 game where we smashed the Lions. Both Fritsch and Pickett kicked four goals and neither got a vote. That sums up how poor the voting is.7 points

Sparrow has positive attributes - his size and power, he's strong overhead, he's a booming kick and reliable long range goal kicker. But he's not a clean ball handler and combined with ANB in attacking chains is an almost guaranteed broken link.6 points

Chandler played well all season and will be an AFL player if he can get strong enough. Turner looks like he could take the next step, which could give us the option to play Petty forward. I though Smith was average yesterday but he has such great athleticism that I want to see him given the chance to take Hibberd's spot. Van Rooyen will be a very good AFL player. Howes had a very quiet grand final but I have seen a lot of the VFL this year and I reckon he is very classy. I would like to see him become stronger and it would be nice to see a bit more desperation at times. Woewodin looks classy but will need to be very strong to play AFL given his pace is average. Laurie does not show enough AFL traits for mine. He is a very clever and skilled player but lacks pace and size. I think Spargo will be better. Bedford was good, but I like Chandler more.6 points

Not quite correct. In 1965 we won the first eight (again many by small margins that tested our resolve) until we lost by 63 points to the sainters on Queen's Birthday under Norm Smith before he was sacked. Then the rot set in and we struggled for the nest 55.5 years. 2022 does not resemble this era at all. In 1965 we had a lot of older players who had tasted success for many years and were on the way out. In 2022 we have a lot of younger players on the cusp of prolonged success (we hope). Barassi left, some retired and our ace in the hole, Jim Cardwell, was past his prime in recruitment and then zoning killed us off. GO DEES6 points

So, you would prefer him to be a sore loser like Scott in last year's PF who used 'illness' as an excuse?6 points

Clarry is so quick with his hands when the heat is on for the umpires to even notice him Don’t worry about it, we all know we have the best player in the comp6 points

Chandler looks to have jumped ahead of Bedford and Laurie. He has been very good in the midfield as well as a small forward. I hope he gets his opportunity next year.5 points

Interested to try to get some more vision on Kwaby Boakye from the Southport Sharks. He looked to be a strong running half back. Strong build and excellent left foot disposal , even in the wet. Maybe a sneaky late draft pick imv with the ability to step straight in.5 points

As for Daisy, fantastic. Singlehandedly shaking up the football commentary old boys'' club. She also had some great comments a month or so back when she responded to the put-down from Brereton and the like in regards to her doing Friday night football. Her point about people being able to recognise themselves in what they see and there not being a single, canonical POV was both insightful and spot on. Long may she reign.5 points

When you look through some of the comments here you see the need for indigenous round in the first place - though clearly, the message is taking a bit of time to sink in for some.5 points

could not disagree more he is our #1 forward - has kicked 60 odd goals two seasons in a row use players where they're at their best5 points

The reason we didn't go further this year is because our best players were beaten up after a long campaign last year, straight into this year. Our incredibly tough fixture in the 2nd half of the year compounded this. We gambled heavily on making top 4 and winning the first final. We achieved the former but missed the latter. We really needed another week off. We moved Brayshaw into the midfield because Clarrie, Trac and Viney were so banged up and that was a good move I hope we persist with next year. You can say we should have used Chandler, JVR and Dunstan to give players a rest, but I don't think they would have enabled us to win enough to make top 4. We could have accepted that we'd have to win it from outside top 4. Maybe that would have been more prudent. Our game plan is super taxing and that makes it very hard to back up. Very few teams have gone back to back after their breakthrough year. The way we play we can win more flags but don't expect consecutive ones. We don't have a culture problem. Look no further than the Dogs, Port and Essendon for last year's finalists with culture problems. Look at Casey this isn't a club with culture problems. Maybe the OP would be happier down at Linton St.5 points

Im disappointed in Daisy, I thought she would understand the significance of the Queens passing for which AFLW failed to do this. We stand and listen to Welcome to Country when we are meant to be one country. We are not responsible for the past and cant undo history, all we can do is continue to try and undo these.5 points
