I know you're not in the habit of using them, but capital letters are very important dc. It's the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.18 points

Really? Sparrow and Harmes amongst worst second tier mids in the comp? That's rubbish15 points

I heard that JVR has been playing on May in training and May is blown away at the kids talent and brutality.15 points

Every time I get pessimistic about Jackson and Brayshaw leaving, I always remember we've signed Petracca and Oliver for a decade and I instantly feel better.13 points

Agree with all of the above. He obviously was selected with a specific role in mind last week - negate port's two interceptors, aliir and clurey He performed that role well - neither had an impact, which was particularly important in aliir's case as he is key to to Port's scoring method, which is heavily reliant on transition from the hb flank. The dogs also rely on transition from hb for scoring (and scoring from stoppages/clearances). Dale is key to that method, particularly with Daniel out. However, Dale presents a different challenge to aliir and clurey. He is not an intercept marker or tall (though he plays tall). He is a distributor and runs hard off hb for metres gained. A terrific player, and one of the best kicks in the AFL.. Melk will struggle to go with him pace wise. The key will be stopping him getting the pill and when he does smashing him and ensuring he has no time and space. If he gets away melk will need to hand off to, say jordon or langers who will press forward and close down Dale's space. If that is melk's role, goody won't care about melk's numbers - he'll care about Dales', as should dees fans.11 points

Nathan Jones (who played 4 games with LJ in 2020) who is more qualified than anyone else in the media to comment on Jackson had some thoughts on SEN tonight: 1) the money being bandied around is ludicrous for LJ 2) LJ is far too an inconsistent a player to warrant such money. 3) LJ coming to Freo has the potential to be a culture killer for Fremantle. Not sure if he was referring to the magnitude of money that would be going to the one player or the player himself being a culture killer.9 points

BBB pulled out of the training (captains run), very early in the session this morning. Spent most of his time wandering around aimlessly, looked underwhelmed. If our forwards fire could be the end for him. Weid and Petracca to destroy the Dogs. Also Dunstan had a little issue with his left hammy (awareness), required some massage, quickly rejoined the seconds squad though. Go Dees8 points

Rode past training this morning Oliver, Brown, Lever all training seemingly unhindered. But I could not sight Fritsch? Weideman working with the forwards but that would be expected as he is listed as an emergency. Couldn’t stay long to totally confirm though.8 points

I hope we’re putting work into getting Finn Callaghan back from GWS, he still hasn’t extended his initial 2 year deal, due to come out next year. Would probably have some interest in playing alongside his lifelong best mate in Blake Howes.8 points

All of that is true AND we're only equal first on the ladder! It's a disgrace! 😎 The philosophy of Goodwin is to replicate, replicate replicate, and that'd be from an evidence based perspective, not just a whim. Predictability helps the team long term for a range of reasons... I can talk you through it, if you're open to hearing?8 points

At training today, ANB and Viney, had semi competitive drills with each other to end the session, about 10 minutes. They were very close to goal and after slapping, holding each other and turning the ball boundary side they would perform a little snap for goal. They had a bit of intention about it.7 points
-
I'd be more confident if they used Tomlinson back (the backline worked well with him last week) and brought Petty forward. Petty's better than Weid, even forward.7 points

Don't have to go back any further than last week to see Harmes' and Sparrow's worth when the game was up for grabs. They would be most welcome additions to any midfield group. People really do offer up some tripe when sitting within arm's reach of a keyboard. They play a different role to the pure accumulators... often lock down and run off!7 points

Yes I do. While I might be wrong and I acknowledge Goody knows far more about footy than me Bin, we are still entitled to have our own opinions. I don’t subscribe to the theory that Coaches and even Premiership ones, are always right and protected from criticism. Otherwise we should close DL down today and all agree that everything is perfect. Btw I have nothing against Melksham, who has been a great pickup for us, but IMO he is not our future and I don’t think his form justifies his selection. TBH, Chandler deserves that position on form, if we are playing a Melksham type. Anyway I hope he plays well, given he is the one selected.7 points

This ☝ Further, I think the club already knows whether or not Dogga and Gus are going, or at least have a verbal agreement with them both to go down one path or the other. May not know for sure which clubs are involved, but Taylor, Lamb and Goody will be all over every possible scenario7 points

No matter what happens with Dogga, I’d still be keen to ask the Swans about the availability of Haydn McLean. Big bodied 197cm Forward/2nd Ruck. Good goalkicker, good mark. Behind Franklin, McDonald and Reid as a forward. Behind Hickey and Ladhams as a ruck. Would appeal to us and brings physical presence.7 points

I thought it was reference to Weid and Mitch Brown not being able to hold their position in the team.7 points

Gus is in his prime at 26 years old. He's shown he can be a great mid (2018), good wingman (2021), and All Australian level halfback (2022). His versatility and leadership make him a valuable commodity. I'd rate him around the pick 10-12 mark. That's better than what we'd get as compo, but not drastically so. I don't believe Gus will leave, but if he does then end of first round compo is likely what we'd settle for. I'm someone that believes picks are overrated though and would rather a proven good player than speculative great one, so in my eyes we lose either way if Gus leaves.7 points

I daresay Melksham will sit on Bailey Dale who has been pivotal to the dogs ball movement this year. I also rated his unselfish attitude inside and around the arcs, he's always been a decent field kick. Willing to give him another chance after a solid outing last week7 points

I’m not interested in whether Weid can kick a bag, but looking for him to hold his marks. No more dropped marks or double grabbers. Clunk it at the highest point/or bust the pack and allow Pickett and Spargo to go to work6 points

OK Weid grab it now!!!! Finals around the corner and a chance to get in the side and be there if we make it deep!6 points

I think it is a simple case. Managers do talk to each other as well and have a fair idea what is happening around the clubs and if they didn’t, they wouldn’t be doing their job properly. If he knows Jacko is leaving, he then gets the best price for Gus by the usual means, which includes interest from other clubs. FWIW I think Jacko is clearly gone and Angus will stay for about a 5 year deal.6 points

Can tell you for a fact Lever was all but locked into a trade to the Dees by halfway through the season. Unless you truly believe we don't talk to anyone until 9am at the beginning of the trade period?6 points

I’ve had enough of this. Its time the club wrote to each member and explained their tactical position on these signatures. Am I seriously supposed to be enjoying the race to the finals while all this commotion is going on.?6 points

Unlike Jackson, Gus very much has a life in Melbourne. Between the club, his partner Danielle and the Frawley family, it’s very hard to see him leaving.6 points

Grain of salt and all that Luci, a relative plays golf regularly with Mitch Lewis's father. My relative was told us and the Bombers were very keen on Mitch and we did put something forward to him prior to Mitch extending beyond next year with the Hawks recently. He could be one.6 points

Had a talk to Buddy the MFC assistant. Tells me they love the surface as do the women Beautiful morning, storm is training and Victory are just setting up. The boys are up and about All over now, short and sweet. The not picked group are out there now. Looks like Joel is in the main group.6 points

Viney met with Geelong before signing a 5 year deal. No harm in Gus teasing the Bombers before doing the same.6 points

[censored] the AFL and their rubbish draw. We have that many short breaks now plus travel, on top of having basically no real bye. Absolute trash. They would never treat a big club like that.5 points

False alarm, other track watchers reporting Fritsch is at training. Need to go to SpecSavers!5 points

Weid is a tall when it comes to height, but doesn’t play with busting pack aggression or presence, that’s why TMac was preferred. Sounds like JVR plays with aggression and has great hands, might be worth a try. Looks promising from the snippets I’ve seen of the VFL. Re loading, could FD be holding JVR back until loading finished and he comes up fresh round 20 similar to Bowey last year. Brereton wasn’t a tall CHF but was great competitor, aggressive and smart - hoping JVR can be similar! Smith brings something else, not quite big enough, but pretty quick, and his defensive side has improved, so he might be able to offer some of what TMac did. Also his odd brain fade won’t cost a goal in forward line. Agree with your prior comments on Melksham, played role well last week, but we need the 3rd tall for balance! Helps BBB and frees up Fritsch.5 points

He's a bit of both. He's similar to Bontempelli in terms of playing style. I agree that a gun KPF would be ideal, but unfortunately there isn't any quality out there that's available. If it was me, I'd be bold and offer a truck load to Max King from the Saints. He's playing like a guy that's clearly frustrated and the Saints are about to go balls deep with their list. Their age demographic and list management is poor, and I can see a significant decline over the next few years.5 points

The oval has been raised by a little less than 1/2 a meter. There is a slight camber, with the peak in the middle. A camera is up on the net post at both goals. Plenty of flood lights on 4 poles. Beautiful looking surface. No trees missing Lever is out there, as is Weids, Tomlinson, Bedford Exercises seem to be about getting them thinking They are making plenty of noise5 points

I agree. If he shared it, we might run into trouble with WADA. More seriously, Melksham's retention suggests he did his job last week better than Bedford did his. DeeSpencer has previously said that Melksham's role last week was to keep Aliir out of the way, which he did successfully. Accordingly, I don't think we should be judging Melksham just on his stats from last week.5 points

Gus is an All Australian level player now, but more importantly he’s a cultural linchpin of the playing group. Him leaving would be disastrous in my opinion, far worse than Jackson leaving. We simply must retain Gus. If Freo landed both, it’d be the biggest off season I can remember by a club, and our direct competitors for the flag would leap from us for the future.5 points

My view is May has been mediocre since returning from suspension. Not hopeless but not at his best. Looks like Frankenstein bending over, missing short kicks and fumbling too often.5 points
