  3. There is a pattern emerging when discussing Kozzie He has a low possession game, a certain cohort on DL emerge questioning his performance In response his stat sheet is produced outlining the tackles and pressure acts clearly demonstrating his value to the team Most notable example is after the GF. Wasn;t until his highlights were produced showing the shepherds, blocks, and 1%'s that the penny dropped for some DL's I wasn’t at Fridays game but witnessed his performance against the Suns. He hustled and harried all game. The Suns defenders did not get a second of peace all night. To his detractors, he is playing a role and playing it well. Please look at the tapes.

  4. Kynan Brown has made the official Oakleigh Chargers squad this year as a bottom age prospect. Is eligible for father son next year. Oakleigh will be quite strong this year and young Kynan was named emergency for today's win against Sandringham Dragons. From what I have been told, Kynan is around the 180cm mark and is a tough midfielder who goes in hard.

  6. Footy fans over-estimate the impact of the "short" six day break between games. I've heard players say that it really doesn't make a lot of difference compared to seven days given their high levels of fitness and the expertise these days in recovery practices. Lever if fit and Brown if available to come in and no unforced "resting" for mine.

  8. He only goes missing if you only value his offensive contribution (and Spargo's). Goody would not ever drop Kozzie and Spargo and probably could not be happier with what they delivered on Friday. The facts are they had 27% of the teams tackles, and 19% of the teams pressure acts playing as small forwards. That is astounding. It's why we had 66 inside 50s to 39 despite losing clearances, as the pressured exits from defensive 50 for Essendon resulted in a lot of midfield turnovers. The reason we didn't win by 80 points is our delivery inside 50 after midfield turnovers was poor, and our defence was off and leaked.

  9. On the lead he looks the goods, in a contested situation he still looks terrible. The Dons defence is really good at the body push, the chest into the back and drove the player forward and they convincingly out positioned Weid and pushed him under the flight of the back. BBB is needed back to allow Woes to play to his strength which is as a lead up fwd, that is his skill. Let’s use it to get the best out of him and for the team. Get his straight on goal kicking right/his confidence going and he is a different prospect for teams to worry about. PS why the hell do you take him off in the first qrt after his goal?! He was really up and about, it just lost all momentum for him and the team.

  15. Are you actually serious? We were literally missing Brown, Salem, Lever, Hibberd and Petty. If anyone was undermanned, it was us. There was absolutely nothing wrong with our win at all. Some people are still yet to understand that top teams don't always need to have pretty wins. We're getting the job done.

  19. RESILIENCE by KC from Casey The Casey Demons showed great resilience as they withstood a late challenge from Essendon VFL to maintain their undefeated record after a dour struggle in gloomy conditions at Casey Fields on Saturday. Following the withdrawal of Sam Weideman to the Melbourne side for Friday night’s AFL game, the Demons’ had their key position forward stocks further depleted with the loss of youngster Jacob Van Rooyen before the start and an injury to Mitch Brown early in the second term. However, they managed to find a way to overcome the sudden and unexpected lack of tall timber up forward with a combination of their running forwards and smalls and a solid three goal contribution from the veteran, Mitch White. It was a sluggish start for the home team which, despite kicking with the breeze, conceded the first two goals before Brown scored their first with a snap across his body after youngster Bryce Milford laid a strong tackle to set up the play followed by the leveller from Kade Chandler soon after. The Bombers soon regained the ascendency with two goals before Melbourne recruit Blake Howes’ exciting response. Casey was in a spot of bother as it trailed by a goal at the first break with Essendon kicking with the advantage of the breeze in the second. The Demons’ concerns were alleviated when Toby Bedford’s early goal in the made it all square again and from there, they showed their resilience, gradually getting on top in the middle and holding the lead from that point onward despite being hotly challenged a few times during the afternoon as well as having to find new avenues to goal after Brown’s unfortunate departure. They were aided with some strong marking and conversion up forward from White and a promising debut from local product Roan Steele who kicked two for the day when they were badly needed. The Demons seemed to have the Bombers’ measure throughout the third term and established a handy 17- point lead at the final break. Fans would have been impressed with the class of Howes and the steadiness in defence of the likes of Deakyn Smith, Oscar Baker and Fraser Rosman, Oskar Baker. They held together well when the chips were down as Essendon made its final comeback. Jimmy Munro was solid as usual throughout the day and provided great strength in the nerve-wracking final term. Corey Ellison was also a force in defence as the Demons held firm in the final moments and vigorously protected their undefeated record. Casey’s next encounter will take place at Point Gellibrand when it takes on Williamstown on Saturday night. 20. Not only are we 3/0 after winning the premiership Jaded but our AFLW team is playing for a flag next week. Our VFL side is sitting on top of the ladder and our VFLW is also sitting on top undefeated after 6 games. We are leading in all 4 competitions. Imagine the amount of substance abuse you’d need to come up with that scenario a few years ago. We are a seriously well run club

  25. I'll think you'll find 'statisticians' only role is to to monitor time and distance of each player in order to keep the person in the Burgess role informed about loading. Burgess, and his equivalent, at every club design the schedule for TOG percentages, time on ball and rotations. And are in almost complete charge of it (save some negotiation with the head coach). In the gf burgo went away from HIS OWN plan to give more time to Jackson. The person on the laptop is not a decision maker. Their job is to provide the person in the burgo role with exact, real time information (and obviously the coaches all the key data they need).

  27. Brayshaw was in the backline (playing the Salem role?) If you watch the replay after the Bombers kick a couple of goals in the 3rd quarter he's in the defenders huddle.

  28. Interesting story about Jake. Heading into the tail end of the season last year, the coaches identified that although we were still winning, we weren’t kicking enough goals. They believed we needed another playmaker off half back to assist Salem, because the ball wasn’t being delivered into our forward line quick enough to benefit Ben Brown and give him the best opportunity to be one out. Although Jake wasn’t our best performing Casey player at the time, he was identified as the player to assist us with that given his disposal, footy smarts and ability to win a one one contest. Immediately we started kicking higher scores. The rest is history…

  29. Clayton Oliver: possibly the best exponent of the handball in the history of football, yet copped a lot of flak over the journey for not kicking the ball enough. I was always a defender - let him do what he does best - but no doubt he has stepped up to another level after be encouraged to take a few driving steps out of the stoppage and look to the boot. His evolution is pretty plain to see on the stats-sheets, and so far this year he has basically completed that journey (small sample withstanding, and he seemingly bailed us out so many times on Friday via hand). These are pure season-total figures because I can't be bothered calculating the ratios, but: 2016: 174 handballs to 76 kicks 2017: 482 v 177 2018: 472 v 262 2019: 413 v 248 2020: 230 v 195 2021: 431 v 358 ........................... 2022 (to date): 48 handballs to 56 kicks.

  33. I noticed that a week ago Rosman was being touted as one player to be delisted at the end of the year. About 12 months ago I made a observation that he would be a better player as a CHB with ball in front of him and finally the coaches have made the move due to the depletion of our defencive stocks at the AFL level. He is 194 cm which is close to 6 foot 4 and half inches in the old money, he was lost on the wing where he did not know where to run or man up due to his lack of football in the past 4 years. I hope they leave him there for the rest of the season to grow into the footballer he could become. For those who saw the 1970's and 1980's Gary Hardeman only blossomed when played at CHB this could be Rosman?

  34. Agree. This has to be looked at. You have a bloke who has taken a few marks and kicked a goal in his game back to try and kickstart his career and then you completely stop his and the team’s momentum.

  35. While I agree they are a strong chance, please let’s make absolutely 0 judgements on them based on smashing North Melbourne. I’ll be impressed when I see them win against a good side. They play Geelong in Geelong next week. Let’s revisit this topic then shall we?

  36. Hard to believe he’s 19 years old and 10 games in to his career, he looks like a veteran. I reckon he’s an example of what happens when all the blocks are in place. He’s developed as a player at the fastest possible rate, because the system surrounding him has allowed him to. I can’t imagine him playing like he is if he’d walked in the door in 2012.

  38. At the ground last night I thought it was interesting to see how Koz is being used. It was really obvious he was playing a more traditional forward pocket/crumbing role. Several times when he could have run up to the ball carrier he instead sprinted back towards the deepest tall forward - which creates space for the likes of Nibbler and Spargo to lead to the ball and link up. It’s a tough gig for him as the opportunities are so scarce, but it really highlighted how disciplined the team is. Some weeks he’s going to look like he’s not done much, but he’s so important to us forward of centre. I think as a reward for all his off the ball work he’s allowed to have a shot whenever he gets it. Seems fair.

  41. Rosman is a bit of a conundrum. He has all the physical attributes to be a good AFL player, but his football IQ is low. On the positive side, he took some nice one grab contested marks, and is extremely quick for his size. He did a fantastic chase down from behind, but unfortunately was penalised for high contact. On the negative side, he got caught out of position in contests, and on one occasion when we moved the ball all the way up the flank, he inexplicably handballed to 2 Bombers players. The backline is definitely his go, but he needs to get better at defending and decision making to be close to consideration for the seniors. I'd persist with him, and can see him being another Joel Smith.

  42. The one thing I hate about modern football are statisticians running the resting of players after they kick a goal and not seeing that this player is hot and should be left on the field to take advantage of their form not sitting on the pine. In the GF I believe that Burgess decided to take the reins of the player movement and guess what! The statisticians only look at GPS numbers not watching the play and getting a feel for the games ebb and flow. When I was at the MFC I told a statistician there is only 1 stat that counts and thats the result on the scoreboard but he argued with me because he had the football IQ of a gnat since he did not understand the game only numbers.
