  1. Steven May: "hold my premiership medal"
    9 points
  2. No premiership will ever beat this one. Even if it was an absolute thriller, the worry of losing will never be the same. There won’t be that “please just win one in my lifetime” feel, nor will there be a 57 year drought (unless I live a very long time.) So if it’s close and there’s a scare like there was during this one, I won’t be as terrified. Also being that it’s our first in my lifetime, the rewatching factor is massive. It may pass Grease as the thing I’ve watched most in my life. Having said that I will throughly enjoy each and every premiership we win in the future. 🏆

  3. This isn't just about a training field, and it is not the 1960's. This is 2021 and all teams are professional and to get to the top you have to give yourself an edge or just equal footing to everyone else. It is why WCE have played in 25 finals series in their 34 years of existence! We currently lease closet sized offices in the MCG not in the one location. We share facilities with Storm, Victory and Rebels at AAMI. We have to book the gym or the pool around them. Our current training ground is small and 500m away from the Football department, and 1 km away from the admin department. It is all second rate. We are fortunate we have a group of talented people who got us to a Premiership this year. We cannot depend on that alone. With Hawthorn and Adelaide building $120M facilities, and Brisbane, Port, Fremantle, WCE, Bulldogs, Richmond and GC all receiving state government handouts to IMPROVE their facilities, we will fall even further and further behind.

  4. Aaron Rodgers from the NFL when asked prior to the season “I’m immunised”… he went to some healer but wasn’t vaccinated. He’s got covid. https://wwos.nine.com.au/news/nfl-2021-aaron-rodgers-fined-by-nfl-after-lying-about-vaccination-status/fffc3a5c-5689-4ad3-bb7b-1e47b572c8e2 Howard Stern hahaha “"Don't take the cure, but don't clog up our hospitals with your COVID when you finally get it. Stay home, don't bother with science, it's too late. Go f--k yourself, we just don't have time for you. "The next time this f--khead gets injured on the field, they should bring in Joe Rogan to fix the bones. They should have him treat him."

  5. As soon as the fixture comes out i'm putting a circle around the date of our game v West Coast at Optus and start organising my flights and accomodation (hopefully no ongoing border issues but you can;t be sure with McGowan). It'll be a pilgrimage of sorts, visit the hallowed ground of Optus, pay my respects at the final resting place of the Norm Smith curse. And i want to lord it over the West Coast natives Outside of the G i can;t think of a more appropriate location to end the drought than Optus. We buried the Norm Smith curse and exorcised the ghosts of 2018 in one go. September 25th 2021 was a beautiful night.

  11. I understand and I am overjoyed that the Melbourne Demons are 2021 AFL Premiers. However, this matter of a home base for our administration and training is still lingering. Hopefully, we can have some more news at the upcoming Annual General Meeting in regards to the progress of our home base? We cannot rest until this matter is finally rectified.

  15. Excerpts from the Bulldog's game days thread on bigfooty. To relive the unfolding horror through their eyes one more time ... Bont's goal: BONT!!! Captain!!! King Marcus Pressure pressure pressure eventually it gets to everyone thats the moment right there Harmes to Fritsch: Fumble by Baz unfortunately leads to that Why did Hannan give that handball? Felt like we were one goal away from making it bloody hard then Fritsch again: And just like that all the hard work is gone For fu** sake Ffs Brown: Far too easy out of the centre there Gah Oh for fu**s sake What the hell are these guys doing In three minutes we went from complete control to fighting for it again We need to get this centre clearance! I’m sounding like a broken record. Geez that Baz fumble is now being paid for dearly Brayshaw: FMD Daniel All that hard work vanishes into nothingness We're starting to look a bit tired. Petracca: I am so done with English SPOIL THE DAMN BALL That was just too good by Petracca…. He has just been killing us all game I think we’ve found a way to turn a very good position into a pretty bad one Reckon we’re in a spot of bother here and it’s through poor execution. Sad to say it's over. St. Kilda in 2009 is the only team in the AFL era to lose after leading at 3QT in a GF. 5 goals in a row How are we in this position Sparrow: That’s it.. done Mids getting embarrassed. How easy can these clearances get Cannot stop them getting it out of the centre There goes the premiership Yeah it's over. Game over fellas. Oliver: Eesh No way ! That’s ridiculous WTF happened? Can we play a defensive player in the centre square for crying out loud Oh, my. Oh, bloody my. What the actual fu** The dees are walking straight through us We can’t come back from that Well that was a really disappointing end to the year Was a great year, bad luck fellas Honestly can’t believe some of those clearance efforts. In a grand final. Wow All over just like that.. Have we ever scored 5-6 goals that quickly ourselves? We look done. That was bloody impressive.

  20. That was as comprehensive a finals series from a premier as i can remember. This team should win another 2 flags imo. I'll be very disappointed if we don't win another

  27. I'm still a annoyed we recruited him. We could have selected Dylan Grimes who Richmond grabbed with the next pick. Dean Bailey seemed frustrated that we missed out on Luke Ball so McDonald was presented as a "gun" recruit instead of the plodder that he really was.

  28. And Hawkins had a shocker. So many times that bloke has been a big player in smashing us. Now its Max that has turned the tables. Cant wait to play cats again. A few times during the year I heard a few pundits describe our games against them as the best fwd line v the best backline. Really.

  30. Great natural talent that landed with us at a time when we were able to develop his talent properly and with out any pressure on him to be a superman. Look settled and, like all the players, is enjoying the footy and his team mates. Covers the ground very, very well and has that awareness that the best of players have. I am sure that they will build his tank a fair bit over the next few years and he will spend more and more time on the ground during games. After watching him over the last quarter of the season and the finals I need to keep reminding myself that he is so young and likely to get a lot better over the next few years. Very glad that he is playing for us and not against us.

  31. Thank God St Kilda took Paddy McCartin an No. 1 ahead of Christian Petracca in 2014. Thank God also that the Swans matched Melbourne's bid on Callum Mills at No. 3 in 2015. Mills is a good player but we got Clayton Oliver instead!

  37. I think we are about 10 years away ‘NFL Films’ quality productions. We are still dealing with partly shaved Brown Bear named ‘BT’ standing with his back to the camera in the rooms after the game looking for people that are too awkward to avoid talking to him.

  38. Just talking about the prelim for a second, I saw Tom Hawkins on ch9 sport the other night and he mentioned that he sledged Maxy at 1/2 time of our prelim he said to Maxy this is yours to lose & giving it to him. He said he has learnt his lesson and won't sledge again especially with his 3rd quarter dominance. Don't wake the beast Tom. He will react. .

  39. It's a tough competition but I reckon Docklands probably is the better of two evils with Southbank these days. Some absolutely horrific towers there. And don't get me started on what's happened in Box Hill. Or the size of some of the towers in Footscray. Caulfield and Camberwell have pushed the envelope too. There really should be something like a hard and fast 8 story rule for anywhere but the Hoddle Grid. Any development along the rail lines should really be for public use. Technology will make it increasingly likely to be built on at some stage but it should all be things with public benefits. A vertical school, a tafe that probably never gets funded and covering the buildings in weeds to carbon offset. No thanks Eddie.

  40. My magic moment is just a little later when Jackson plants a handball so perfectly in Oliver's grasp that he doesn't even need to change his rhythm as he runs towards goal. That is as precise a single piece of play as I have ever seen.

  41. The standard game highlights with commentary is nice, but a skillfully edited slow motion piece with more close up ground level footage mixed in, limited commentary and decent crowd noise is what I'm after

  42. Best footy Dees have played in the Granny ( and the Geelong last half and Qual and Prelim Finals really) in the 62 years I have been supporting them. Was lucky enough to see live at Optus in surely a Once in a Lifetime experience! Just have a funny feeling there are a few more top shelf performances like this from this group in the next 4-5 years.

  43. As Anthony Hudson said in a PF, with the Swans and Cats I think it was, " I see it but I don't believe it". It is some of the most powerful, perfect, team football I have ever seen and in a GF to boot. It just brings tears to the eyes of the long suffering Dees fans, well mine at least.

  44. I've known about those 2 earlier drafts for a few years now but have zero recollection from that time. Nothing And it was the end of RDB'S first year as coach as well ... maybe we just dismissed the concept as being too American because when the 1986 draft came along, I distinctly remember there being a lot of scepticism And that lasted for at least 5 years until we did take it seriously Remembering that the metro & country zones still operated to a degree concurrently to the draft for a time For instance, we recruited David Schwarz as a 15yo junior development squad player from Sunbury in 1987 It's all a bit murky though

  45. I've got the Dennis Cometti commentary of the grand final on USB in the car. Listened again to the last 7mins of the 3rd last night dropping my daughter off at dancing. I still smile, shake my head and shout "Go Demons" after those 3 goals everytime. Just devastating football. Daughter's over it tho' 😂

  46. Wouldn't quite go that far ...... Yet. He played well but he didn't exactly turn it on it's head. He was very influential in the rd23 comeback against Geelong too tho'. Going into the ruck in that game got us rolling then as well.

  47. We also nailed getting Jim Stynes and Todd Viney in that offseason, their influence on Max Gawn and Jack Viney created premiership players.

  48. There were 2 other drafts in the early 80's (not talked about much or even heard of) Might have been '81 & '82 (for interstate players only) With one of our early picks in those 2 drafts we picked Alan Johnson. But I'm not sure whether any of those players in those 2 drafts were tied to clubs or obligated to those clubs Although AJ did end up playing for us of course Danny Hughes was another

  49. I cant remember who it was, but I heard a long while back that the mistake wasnt picking Darren but not picking his brother Andrew too. In hindsight they felt if they they had picked both they might have come over together. But hey...these things no longer disturb me in any way :-)
