  1. Saty isn't everyone's cup of tea but I doubt there are many better supporters. He attended every training session at Gosch's he could get to, he'd organize his shift work to attend, he'd work the phones ringing past members asking them to re-sign in the dark days and he's worked outside the MCG giving members their scarves well into the start of game to make sure they were looked after. But more than that. When things were bad he wasn't. He was as supporters should be, supportive and helpful to the club doing what he could to improve us. And to many on Demonland he provided training reports and some information that wasn't available elsewhere on player's situations and injury. I haven't seen him here this year and that is in large part I imagine to training not being at Gosch's and the small minority on here who belittled his input and made life pretty unpleasant for him. But he's one of the true believers and I hope wherever you are Saty you are soaking up the thrill of the flag and it's rewarded you in some way for all your past efforts. Cheers mate, I look forward to catching up.

  2. There are so many threads I could post this in but I feel it deserves its own It gives me goose bumps and brings tears to my eyes. I'm not sure which of the two expressions moves me the most. Both say so much. The caption 'Youre a good man, the players love you' is what Roffey said to Goodwin at the start of the season to help him build belief in himself. What beautiful, quite and inspiring words. Another thing she said to him was: 'Be yourself', which became Goodwin's mantra/advice to the players through the finals. Keep in mind that at the time externally, Goodwin's job was seen as being in jeopardy. If ever a man needed support and belief, that was it. Kate stepped up to the plate. If you would like to see the whole interview it is the 'Offisders'. The whole program is about our win. There are some good insights that haven't been discussed in the general media. The interview with Roffey starts @ 14.30 https://iview.abc.net.au/video/RS2008V037S00 This year our club has been built on 'Team', 'Support', 'Belief, and 'Selflessness'. And it starts right at the top with our President. My admiration for her and her wisdom has gone through the roof.

  3. I wanted to say a massive thank you to Mark "Choco" Williams for coming to the Melbourne Football Club. Apparently he said something pretty inspiring to Christian Petracca while he was on the bench when the Grand Final was in the balance. This assisted with turning things around very quickly in the Demons favour. Mark "Choco" Williams has probably been the recruit of the year for the Melbourne Football Club. I cannot sing his praises any higher. I hope that the Melbourne Football Club sign him on for a few more years. He has made a massive impact on our playing group. To think a few years ago no AFL club wanted Mark "Choco" Williams around. He has definitely proved them all wrong! What a legend!

  4. Even if he wasn't asked to, he probably would anyway. He's at the back end of his career and breaking in to the MFC side is only going to get harder for him from here. Melksham was outstanding in 2018 and instrumental to the competitiveness of the team that year. Happy memories for me. The fact that Essendon fans all seemed to hate him so much made watching him tear games apart all the sweeter. Hope he can eke out another two years elsewhere.

  5. Sparrow’s goal very underrated. Kicks it from 52m off one step. Elite!

  6. This kid needs a shout out for his finals series and emergence as a player. A mate of mine who watched the Brisbane game compared him to Dane Swan and im starting to this comparison (player wise) particularly with his upper body strength and composure in possession. With another big pre season and more midfield time could see him take his game to another level. He is also from the Adelaide Hills (like me!).

  8. In total agreement. In past years when my son and I were able to get down to Melbourne and attend training sessions, I always enjoyed a good chat with Saty… I expect his joy over winning the GF will be somewhat tempered by the retirement of his favourite player, Nev Jetta. I hope he and his partner, or, as he would say, “lovely lady” (which she is, by the way), are surviving the pandemic/lockdown ok, and are at least, still reading these forums.

  10. The biggest surprise of the last month. Became undroppable after the Lions game and thrived in the two biggest games of the year. Two 50-metre kicks on Saturday really stood out. The 53-metre goal off one step in the third and the 50-metre pass to Brown for the first goal of the last. Superb. Add to that supremely fit and prepared to get down and dirty. Brilliant acquisition!

  11. Im 33 pages in of 44. Been reading 10 pages at a time. Savouring it. Loving it. But I need now to also express myself. It's all been said by all of you on here, but [censored] me dead, that was like living a dream for 40 minutes. My text to mates simply said: No more jokes, no more mockery. I wore my jumper for the first time these last few days with a pride I'd never felt.. Always when I wore it people looked at me with a combination of pity/concern/or a look of 'you [censored] [censored]". Like many others on here, there were no tears, which I expected. Just pure elation and dis-[censored]-belief. The relief like nothing Ive ever felt before. Had my mad 12 and 8 year old Demon supporting sons on each side of me from go to wo. What a night! As I said it's all been said. But I haven't apologised to Neal Bullen. So, Nibbler, sorry for doubting you. His last 4 matches his best 4 matches of his career. Flawless in the granny. Absolutely effing flawless, composed, disposed of it accurately. Focus on this bloke on the replays. Didn't put a foot wrong. Like most, if not all, others. Great job WA Demons and other people that flew our flag and supported us. You legends. Nev, Jonesy, Vanders and Jayden Hunt (the unluckiest of all to miss out) - love your work. Have always loved it. I hope Jayden wins a flag with us next year. When we are allowed back at the G to have the Melbourne/Victorian celebration, we are all going to lose our minds. I intend to. It draws out our celebratory period in some ways, which is another bonus, like basking in the glory of being in a granny for 2 weeks instaed of the usual 1 week. So I'll see you all there. Thanks also to this demonland community. Many years ago when I came across this site I was so pleased. Still am.

  12. He was such a star for us in 2018. Will never forget the goal he kicked to seal the final against the hawks. Thought he gave us a lot and was one of the elite ball users at a time when mostly we had v few. Hope he gets picked up and gets to 200.

  15. It was actually Viney who won both clearances - first with a handball to trac, and then a toe poke into the Path of Jackson (good thing he did this too as both Jackson and Oliver had run ahead of the stoppage!) I will remember it for Petracca and Oliver but let's not forget who got the hard ball

  20. Now is the time to correct a couple of errors. Spargo, I thought he was crap and now has a GF medal. Carlton would win a GF before us. Hmm! The coach would never get us there. Still think the big improvement came from the new assistants. But he is the head coach and he did what no one else has done in 57 years.

  22. As far as I can gather the fastest ever individual goal from a center bounce was 6 seconds when Riewoldt was awarded a 50m prior to the first bounce! The instant and completely uninterrupted breakaway goals from a center bounce seem to range around 9 to 15 seconds. I assume that it has happened before at some point but even so, it would require both to be right at the pointy end of that scale when you consider there is always a couple of seconds after a goal before the all-clear and time stopping. If there have been faster runs of three goals, it could only be by a few seconds. With another odd goalkicking record in mind now - Tom McDonald must be the first person ever to kick a goal after the siren in a grand final from 45 meters out while 15 other guys were in a dry-humping pile about 5 meters to his left!

  24. I rate this guy higher than Cerra - stronger overhead, a better (huge) kick (as long as he gets it over the man on the mark!) and tough at the contest. Given he comes cheaper, sign him up for 3 years and save some money for dogga, kosi and fritta.

  25. Loved his finals series and really cemented his place in the team. Strong at the footy. Good tackler. Loved his composure. Kicked some key goals including the one on the 3rd quarter of the GF during the goal avalanche.

  26. We've spent most of the year renegotiating contracts. He's a reactionary that looks for clicks and nothing more.

  27. Imagine being so good that people now worry about how we will keep all our stars together? This time last year Oliver was off to Carlton, Trac to the Pies. I think the boys looked fairly connected on the ground after the granny. Doubt anyone is rushing to leave.

  28. Bartlett did a lot of good for our club. This thread is about how Roffey supported Goodwin, gave him belief and helped drive the values the club has espoused this year. Last year I recall Bartlett scorching Goodwin and the players publicly and by all accounts completely blindsided them. Deserved? Possibly. But that behaviour was the antithesis of building teamwork, support and to engender belief in people. Last year Bartlett put a real dent in our culture. Roffey, as outlined in the Offsiders, has repaired it.

  29. That would be tough for Goody to do. Both Melk and Hibbo really helped us out when we needed it. Just another of the hard luck stories when someone has to miss out.

  30. Thanks for that Simon needed the right people around him. To remove the President, mid Season with Kate was a ballsy move, but it will go down as a masterstroke Glenn’s leaving was amicable both ways i have been told, so it didn’t cause waves in the media. (Glenn was in the rooms Saturday night)

  32. In that last 50 seconds of the 3rd quarter, we saw 2 of the best handballs ever by Demons that led to goals. Viney falling over, handballs under enormous pressure to Tracc and the other, Jacko on the run, puts it in front of Clarry, running at full pace, who doesn’t need to break stride, for a brilliant goal on the run. I will never forget those 2 handballs which in a big way helped win us a flag.

  35. Looks to be going around again next year too. Good insurance if we have injuries to our key position players. Has shown the capability to impact forward for us, and was a very handy key position defender at times at Essendon too. https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/demons-re-sign-mitch-brown-amid-list-changes-20210928-p58vdf.html

  36. Massive fan of this kid. Up until just before the finals series, I thought he was well below Jordon, and would take a couple of years to emerge. But his strength, game play and kicking give him a real presence for being so young. 100% agree with Spalding above: I wouldn't be wasting money or picks on Cerra with Sparrow showing his wares in the finals. Watch his space - his 2022 will be something special.

  39. Good on Kate, but the credit really should go to Glen Bartlett. He is the President that took us from the sh_it heap to the clusp of a Premiership. Kate was the lucky successor who took over with the hard work already completed.

  40. Kate was asked when will Melbourne fans get to see the players and the cup. She said her dream would be to have an event at the G, replay the game and re-present the medals (hoping I heard that right). Then I saw this mcc-keen-to-welcome-dees-for-fans-celebration Kate's dream may not come to fruition and any event may depend on covid restrictions and MCC prep for the cricket season. The article reminded me of our DL angst over recent years of where would we go to celebrate a GF the day after? It won't be the day after but we have the answer: Our spiritual home: The MCG. Imagine the MCG full of only Demon supporters!
