  1. I’m not sure the club will do much better than Majak as a backup option - for all the posters here saying no, who should we go for instead? I wish him all the best with his second chance, hope he grabs it by the ears.

  2. We should all be proud of the Club's announcement and receive the AFL's community award in 2021. Anything that keeps him away from Lulie Street it to be highly commended. On an equally serious note . . . My mate, who is mad Norf and understands the game, was amazed that Norf delisted him, not withstanding the injuries and other challenges Majak dealt with in 2020. His view was that Majak, when fit, was easily inside the club's best 22 players. He was appalled by Shaw's handling of him when coach (and I'm Shaw there's an untold story there as well). For all the reasons many have identified here, Majak:- can play anywhere, is well liked by teammates, is low budget impact, a good trainer, and happy to play in the ressies when the full list is available. My friend says his best position is off half back and we should plan to play May across half forward. Means the $850,000 man will have to rise to the occasion though. Can't say I see any downside considering the state of our list today. There would be a minimum of 30 AFL players running around in 2021 not as well credentialed as Majak IMHO.

  4. Never thought I would look at the Demonland banner and think to myself, hmmm we might be short of a sheila or two here......

  5. I don’t understand the hostility to this idea. He gets a 12-month contract on small money and provides cover only. Seems a pretty low risk straight forward back up option to me.

  6. Happy with this. We need a second mature ruck. We need key defensive depth. And with the injuries we might need forward depth. Majak can do all 3 at once. The only problem is they don’t have a lot of time to assess his body unless they’ve had this on the cards for a while. There’s a chance his body just isn’t what it was after his severe injuries so they need to thoroughly investigate that if he’s to get a list spot.

  7. You could also say, we already have Jackson, Weid, Petty and Bradtke as young developing talls, it's good to have some mature backup to balance out the list.

  8. Don,t get carried away he would not be a best 22 fd he is an insurance for the big fella. He can play it is my opinion and would be a good back up and is a big strong boy. I am sure that others would agree.

  9. I've thought long and hard before deciding to post on this and thinking through the various views. I almost posted late last year suggesting we could look at Majak Daw when we made the move on Preuss and Majak was delisted.last year I understand where people are coming from on this but in my view is that being delisted from a club is not an automatic stamping a players papers that that should not ever play AFL again. Clubs delist groups of players both collectively when refreshing and rebuilding lists and individually depending on circumstances including form, team balance ,injury potential etc.-each year and each case has its own individual characteristics and variables. North made its list clean out last year for its own reasons. I'm not sure being delisted is a statement on whether a player has a future in AFL or not. They may well still have a place in another club where they are just what the club needs. Others will disagree but I feel more comfortable having him on the list than not. With the injuries we already have in the talls department, we are only a match incident away from major deficiencies in our team... and we are relying on Petty, Joel Smith and others to be injury free and contributing-this is not guaranteed. Petty has been out for a long time-though I think he has massive potential to lift us if fit and on the park. Whatever you believe about our coaching situation in the past, I feel we are much better placed in that area this year-especially in game plans and getting the best out of our list. Majak has shown he has ability to be a really good contributor-those video clips show that. Its more the consistency and other factors like injury that might be challenges. But if he is happier at Melbourne than at North last year, who knows what could happen. We do need strong types to take on the hulk and bulk of clubs like West Coast, Geelong and Richmond. Thats my pennies worth-(but am happy to go decimal if need be and make it two cents worth. :)

  10. Also wonder if Ben Brown had any influence in having the Dees consider him?

  11. Versatile mature depth player who could ruck if Max gets an injury - I like it. With B.Brown and Weid out, Jackson and TMac have become 1st choice KPFs and have weakened ruck depth. Daw addresses this.

  12. Why is depth 'dreaded' exactly? This is how a list works. You don't have 40+ A graders, it's just not possible. Clearly with our list situation, not just this year, but with our forthcoming OOC players there's a big picture to look at. Daw isn't even on our list yet, he's just been given a chance to show some form that might grant him a rookie spot. Even if he manages a spot it's probably unlikely he'll play AFL level, but with Brown and Weid out, Jackson still a youngster, Petty coming off no preseason, our main insurance ruck gone, McDonald a gamble at best, Tomlinson not a forward, Lever and May both with recent injury history, OMac gone etc etc it makes sens to me to be looking at a mature swingman as very very cheap insurance.

  13. I believe he signed at North Heidelberg under Brent Harvey and has been doing a pre season there.

  14. We certainly need big man depth. Daw is an all rounder, can ruck, can play down back, can play fwd. I think its an ok play.

  15. Am I reading this wrong. We are having him train with us. As far as I can see he has not been guaranteed a spot.

  16. Desperation my ar.e, they have 2 list spots available, 2 forwards have gone down, they are being proactive.

  18. Demons hand AFL lifeline to Daw Door open for discarded Roo after receiving invitation to train with Demons I’m not sure what to make of this. My recollection of Daw’s form on comeback was that he struggled. This is virtually a second lifeline and he has also had personal issues in his life of late. Things won’t be easy for him given the physical and mental barriers he has to overcome. It’s almost a flashback to last year and Harley Bennell but at least the club is thinking outside the square.

  19. Ventured to Casey this morning to find the arena "bathed" in light. Thinking I might have stumbled on part two of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, I was somewhat intrigued to see that the lights at Casey had in fact been turned on!! Warmups consisted more or less of similar to last Friday, before segueing into a full scale practice match between the navy blues and the royal blues. Unless you knew the numbers, the colors were somewhat indistinguishable! Here is my report. NO SHOWS, VINEY, KOSSIE, BEN BROWN, HIBBO, JOEL SMITH??? There might have been others but being outside the ground again made it difficult to distinguish LIMITED DUTIES MITCH BROWN, SPARGO, GUS , MELKSHAM MATCH REPORT The match ups were interesting with the navy blues containing what I believe to be the probables against the possibles, although having said that players who made up most of last year’s list were sprinkled between the two sides. RANDOM HIGHLIGHTS AND A FEW LOW ONES AS WELL Game split into 4 about 15-20 min quarters, stiff wind blowing northerly away from the city, umpires were AFL list, I hink. Trent Rivers played well across HBF and has become more at home and composed with the footy. Ed Langdon was all over it on the wing and won possession after possession. Harry Petty was played down back and whilst he did a few nice things, was not noticeable. James Jordan has skills and played well in a variety of roles. Vanders was back and was involved in a few bone jarring tackles and was his usual imposing self. At one stage Max took umbrage to his fierce tackling and let him know about it. Clayton "Minestrone" Oliver was in everything and was the catalyst to so many clearances. His disposal was crisp and clean. It was between Max, Langdon and for BOG. The name "Minestrone" for me conjures up the fact that in one you get everything ... That was choo choo today! L.J WOW ... has he come of age? Took marks, kicked three goals, rucked, roved and was a catalyst - is ready to impose this year! Harmes played ON BALL resting on a half forward flank and was back to his best. Expect to see him more in midfield this year. Bailey Laurie and Jake Bowey - take a bow recruiting team led by team Jason Taylor. Both are quick, decisive with hand and foot and both are excitment machines destined to play early this year, probably Bailey Laurie more so at this stage. Fraser "The Freak" Rosman, WOW, Today took the MOTD and also kicked TGOTD. Was instrumental in some set ups and will play early. Faded towards the end but ... is exciting. Trac just cannot be tackled he is soooo elusive just reminds me of myself in my heyday LOL ... Played like he did last year. Tom McDonald was quiet early (matched up against Steve May) but kicked 2 or 3 good goals. Similar to last week where I singled out Chunky Jones, today it was NEV JETTA'S turn to wind back the clock with a really good display down back. Fritta was fritta laconic BUT dangerous. Max did as he liked and whilst this is good please God if he or Clarry gets injured >>>>> ? Others to impress were Aaron Nietschke, will be a formidable ruckman, Jay Lockhart, Toby Bedford, Kade Chandler and Aaron Bradke, Hunt was busy of the hbf and Chunky decisive POSITIVES As above, plus plenty of endeavour skills seemed better under pressure and players looking for smart options, we should have plenty of scope for multi options and a very strong second tier who are sure to put pressure on for game day spots in the ones. NEGATIVES We still have issues with kick out strategies. other teams seem to be able to do this at will but we struggle and a few times played on only to bomb hopefully. we stiil will over rely on our core group , but i can see visible narrowing of superstars and next tier. Hitting targets under pressure needs to be the focus No slitherers seen today thankfully Cheers PF

  23. Why not? Being dropped by North is no measure of his worth. They are a penniless basketcase who had to off load players to save the sinking ship in desperation. After what Majak has been through I think it's great MFC have offered him a lifeline. If nothing comes of it, then so be it. He goes to play with his brother and Brent Harvey at North Heidelberg, which I'm sure he will be happy with as well. For what it's worth I thought the photo of a smiling Majak wearing the Melbourne colours in the practice match last year conveys the joy he felt playing footy again. Whatever happens I wish him well for 2021.

  25. I think you might be overestimating out KPD depth. MAY: good run with injuries in 2020, horrid in 2019. LEVER: Two knee reconstructions. SMITH: Serious groin/OP and shoulder injuries. (Yet to play a great game at senior level.) PETTY: Zero games in 2020 and limited preseason. TOMLINSON: Can play down back, but wouldn’t want to see him in a stopping role if May was injured. We have next to no flexibility with someone like McDonald due to injuries to Weideman and Brown. We have good key position stocks down back if they are all fit and firing. However, they all have their history of significant injuries and when a couple of them are out, the shelves look pretty bare.

  26. We have next to no maturity of talls other than M Brown with BB and Weid having delayed starts. We have no mature ruck coverage. We have enough developing players now. We need a mature tall body or two just in case. Daw fits as a ruck if needed and defensive tall either directly or to allow more forward flexibility with Petty or May (not that I would swing him).

  27. If Majak can prove his fitness both mentally and physically - it's a yes from me. There are 42 odd blokes on a list - he won't be the worst on the list and might just prove a good back up option when needed. If nothing else the blow up from the negative nancies on here would well worth the price of admission ???

  28. Majak Daw has done more in his career than Oscar. A big Yes from me! Just a feeling

  29. Smacks of desperation. But with your two key forwards out of action, and a dodgy old TMac as a a fill-in, a bunch of small to medium sized players with nothing to crumb, the Daw experiment is understandable but bound to fail. What would I do? Dunno but the footy season like Covid, maybe another year of endurance, patience and stoicism. Joy maybe something to hope for in another winter of discontent.

  38. Concussion aside he hasn't played since 2018. He played 35 games in four years. He is a key forward who's never kicked more than 2 goals in a game. Averages less than a goal a game. The answer is clearly a resounding NO. He's not good enough on exposed form. THEN you add in the concussion issues. FMD, how anyone could even consider this beggars belief.

  44. Absolutely, best game I have seen and I think many neutrals would also agree. Highly entertaining Saturday night viewing, that game warranted a crowd in attendance. It was that bloody good. From a free flowing and attacking game in the first half from us, to then having to scrap and fight for every contest because a quality opposition is coming at you hard, shows a mental maturity in this group led by Daisy of course when the game was on the line. It was a proud night for the MFC.
