  1. Troy Broadbridge passed away on this day in 2004, on the Phi Phi Islands, Thailand, one of 227,898 victims of the Boxing Day Indian Ocean Earthquake and Tsunami. Never forgotten.

  2. This is a great initiative to get Jonathan Brown who was a champion player at the Brisbane Lions to impart his wisdom and teach Sam Weideman how to play properly as an AFL forward for the Demons. I think one of Sam's biggest deficiencies has been lack of confidence. He needs to jump more for his marks no matter what is in his way and really focus on his goal kicking. Jonathan Brown will hopefully be a fine teacher for Sam and also teach him to toughen up a bit more.

  3. I'll never forget Broady; I'll never forget his memorial game. I doubt that there was a dry Melbourne eye during the opening ceremony at the packed MCG. Melbourne could never have been beaten that night. Broady's spirit was always with us; I'll never forget the great work that our Club / players did to rebuild a school in the Phi Phi Islands in Broady's memory.

  4. "Probably at a point of my carer where I really need to step up now" Yep. I wasn't one of the posters who thought he was going to come on in leaps and bounds after 2018, but he is 12 months behind where I think he should be. Hope the pressure isn't getting too much for him. Hopefully Ben Brown will take a heap of pressure off of him and he can settle into his natural game. Hoping for Sammy to play 20 games this year and have 25+ goals.

  5. Murray would surely be the only bloke who played a game of league footy on Saturday arvo and then wrestled at Festival Hall that night

  6. He should have learned that from his grandfather Murray who was a real mongrel in his day.

  7. Good to see that a little help has been sought for Weid. Hope he gains the confidence to back himself in 100% of the time, he’s a good and dangerous player when he puts his mind to it

  8. The Weid will learn something out of the great man. JB has the knowhow and will definitely give him some vital tips and strategies Lets hope this could be the making of the Weid, He certainly has the talent.

  9. Great news. It seems the Club is being very proactive in sorting out some of the lingering issues that have stalled our progress. We have a reasonable draw and a healthy list so hopefully onwards and upwards.

  12. If you’ve got 5 mins of holiday time this is well worth a watch. Brown is one of my all time favourite non Melbourne players

  13. Brown played angry. Weideman has (imo) played his most impactful footy when he attacks the ball like he hates it. Need to reduce the gaps between those performances to become the player he should.

  14. R.I.P Broady. Talented player and absolute hero of a bloke, pushing his new wife to safety at the cost of his own life. Thoughts are with the Broadbridge family.

  15. Well, that seems like a good idea. The story is very light for details of course but the more mentoring involvement there is, the better.

  16. Two things that stood out for me about Rivers and why I think he’ll make it: 1) his debut against Carlton in round 2. After fluffing his first disposal he made up for it in his next disposal and totally hit the ground running from there with his composure and crisp disposal from half back. One of the better MFC debuts in recent years. 2) That goal against GWS. With the season on the line the kid stepped up to the plate and snapped an extremely difficult goal in the dying minutes which suggests to me that he’ll be comfortable on the big stage. An excellent debut season by Trent.

  24. No i didn't overlook him at all if you read the post, BD says I think Jackson has something to say about that. I replied to his Question. BD 's post is right above mine, Kosi is part our future going forward l rate him. However it wasn't the question asked.

  27. Not wrong, but I’m not sure why you’re asking the question. If you want to understand a little about the CCP, read Jung Chang’s books. Note that they are in English and published in the West. You won’t find anything with credibility published in China. Many tens of millions of innocents murdered, so stop with the ‘the West is so evil’ stuff. It’s not a defence. Here’s a good analogy of the way you are looking at it: Judge: Mr Xi, you stand before the court today accused of murder. What do you plead? Mr Xi: A westerner once murdered somebody. Judge: Mr Xi, the court only accepts a plea of guilty or not guilty. Mr Xi: A westerner once murdered somebody. Judge: Mr Xi, this trial is about your behaviour, not someone else’s. D, it’s not the race or nationality or ethnicity or identity that matters, it’s the behaviour. Murder, killing, torture, suppression of dissent... you fill in the list for me.... it’s bad. The identity of the people doing it is not relevant. My posts are trying to make a point that neo-liberalism has empowered the CCP, but now that the CCP threaten Australia’s sovereignty, the reclamation of that requires state intervention in the form of administration of and investment in education and infrastructure, similar to that we used to know in eras before corporations took it upon themselves. If we want to remain free and democratic, we gotta reclaim the state so it serves the national interest, not the interest of an elite section of the population. The elitism of neo-liberalism plays into the CCP’s hands. So I think that the necessity to steer away from economic dependency on China that COVID has brought into stark relief marks the beginning of the end of neo-liberalism. It’s got a way to go yet, but I can’t see a way for the democracies to retain sovereignty without the passing of neo-liberalism. I realise my ideas are not quite sorted out. I guess what I am trying to do is sort them out here. I’ll get there. If you were to watch the links I posted, I think you’ll get what I mean. Yes, they concentrate on the relationship of the CCP to Australia, but you’ll find many markers of neo-liberalism referred to in the conversations.

  28. Yet more shameless self promotion... Last Sunday (20th Dec) we (The Branch Covidians) played in an event called COGIG19, which is an online streaming festival running over a period of 19 days and aiming to set a new world record for online acts performing out of one location as a festival; achieved by the middle of the first week. It featured artists from all over the planet. This link is to a YouTube playlist of a half dozen songs, I cut from our stream and edited; hope you enjoy if you feel inclined to check them out: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaAej3xGM_ZUSe8n8A5L8GXdEZaJp9KwJ

  33. The major factors for whether a kid can play early are whether they are physically and mentally prepared for the intensity and whether they can run. Rosman looks more of a project so I don’t expect him to play but there’s no concern over his athleticism and hopefully his size protects him from the heat. Bowey and Laurie are strong runners too. If you can run you can do a job. It’s a big ask of a coach to start a small light body in Bowey on a back flank but I think he’ll get his chance. They didn’t rush Rivers in so much so my guess is coaches are more conservative when it comes to defenders. Laurie should certainly get chances if the likes of Spargo and Pickett are a guide from their first years. Is he going to be a better option than ANB who’s rock hard fit and a super worker? My guess is not straight in to round 1 but pretty early in to the year he’ll put good vfl from on the board.

  35. I cannot see Bowey or Laurie and Rosman as permanent fixtures in 2021 Skills and speed with raw talent. We are not starting from scratch and not rebuilding as the players are there. If they are good enough they will earn it . IMV our list is strong to do something special in the next two years and beyond we just have to get the mix right. I like our picks in the draft this year and last year as well and IMV our future certainly looks good.

  37. Is it? Rivers is a lock, Pickett is too given his position. Jackson is too talented not to play (and his output justified getting games last year). If Laurie & Bowey kick and compete as advertised it’s hard to think they won’t be upgrades on the AVB, ANB & Jones’ of the world.

  38. Our draw has been kind and gives us the opportunity to create some momentum, get wins on the board early. Freo, St Kilda, GWS and Hawks are must wins if we’re to have a crack at the Top 4. Win one of Geelong or Richmond and we’re 5-1 and well on track for the double-chance. Drop Geelong and Richmond and one other and its 3-3 and its just more of the same, inconsistent, mediocrity. Anything less than 3 wins after 6 rounds and I’ll be calling for heads to roll. BB, Yze and Chocco are great additions and I reckon will give the group a real spur. Another pre-season with Burgess as well so I’m genuinely confident and think this group can deliver.

  40. It’s not unusual for key position forwards to bulk up. I’ve heard commentators advising Weiderman to hit the gym and get bigger. The extra bulk helps when crashing the pack, outbodying opponents or protecting the drop zone. I think TMac’s problems started with his foot injury. If the foot is ok then he might be able to get back to a reasonable level of performance. Fingers crossed.

  43. Happy to be playing the Lions in Alice. Should have the majority of fans for us rather than the usual WA or SA clubs. Significant 'Home' ground advantage for us. No bye after this game but we play Coll on QB so it would give us at least an 8 day break for recovery.
