  1. It has previously been announced that our working group for our home base involves funding and involvement from State and Local Government. I'd expect once there is something to announce, which you would think would be in the next 6 months, it will include appropriate State Government funding.

  2. Yes, future picks can be live traded. But, we can't trade any more future picks until we trade in a 2021 1st round pick, which is unlikely. Pick trade up will be difficult for us because initially, not many clubs with pick #1-#5 will want to trade them out. And if they do there will be plenty of competition with clubs, holding stronger hands that have said they want to trade up: GWS (holding picks 10, 13, 15, and 20 and a full hand of 2021 picks). They aggressively gave up trade value (in points) last year to get into the top 3. Collingwood (holding picks 14 and 16 and want to trade out their 2021 1st pick). GCS (holding pick 5 and a full hand of 2021 picks). They will be relying on Adel, North or Hawks to take their pick #5 and their future 1st. GCS traded up aggressively last year and were willing to give up trade value (in points). Each club will out-trump our holding (pick 18 and 19) for picks 1-5. Unfortunately, that means heavy competition for Ess picks 6,7 or 8. Good luck trying to get a reasonable deal from them or even a timely deal. So I can't see us trading up higher than 10 which will slide to 13-16. Not great news for us but that is my take of the lay of land. We may be better off keeping our picks because some players will surely slide and we may get one of maybe 2 or 3 we have our eye on. Doubt that is the clubs plan but I don't think we have the hand to get too far up the order.

  3. Encouraging footage. Looks leaner. Spun and swivelled without any obvious sign of discomfort. There’s hope yet perhaps! Keep up the hard work TMac.

  6. Assuming our draft picks remain as they are then picks #18 & #19 will probably turn out to be around #23 & #24 after academy and f/sons. If we follow the AFL Draft Central picks we would miss out on Finlay Macrae but we would get Jack Carroll and Brayden Cook. I think that would be fair and reasonable for the hand we have at the draft.

  7. I’d be happy with pretty much any of the players listed from 13-29. Apart from a couple of the pure inside players like Powell and Trew, the others fill a list need of some description. This indicates that there’s plenty of diverse options and we’re perfectly placed to take whatever falls at 18, 19 & possibly 28. We shouldn’t be too worried if we don’t end up trading to get further up the order, there’ll be plenty in our range to fill out the list.

  8. It might work in our favour a bit because we have the game's fittest ruck, as well as fit key position players at both end of the ground who can stay on the park for almost the whole game (Bonus: Ben Brown was on the field for something like 98% of the time in 2019) We also have more midfield depth than most so we can rotate without losing too much quality. Perhaps most valuable - tired opponents means less flooding back, fewer intercepts and more chances for our forwards to use time and space to make something useful of our wonky entries.

  10. We still have Mitch Brown as well.... Given the potential for confusion, I suggest we refer to Ben Brown as Brown1 and Mitch Brown as Brown2. Both could be abbreviated further for typing ease to B1 and B2.

  11. There is never going to be another Robbie Flower mate ! He was in a class of his own. Played his first senior game in 1973. So l feel sorry for you that you missed him playing. He would have walked into any top side with ease in todays football. It is not an opinion it is the truth. You cannot compare.

  12. Jackson isn't going anywhere in the short term. like Jesse he'll get chased every single off season by both W.A clubs but so will Rivers and Kozzie. any half decent interstate player is going to deal with that most of their career. Everything i've heard about LJ is he's incredibly happy at the club, excited for the future and the club thinks we've got ourselves an incredible talent. I personally think LJ's first 4-5 years are going to be mostly flashes of brilliance with a gradual build in strength, fitness and consistency before absolutely exploding onto the scene and ripping a season apart. gotta keep expectations in check for the young man but he does look the goods

  15. One of TMacs features as both defender and forward was his endurance. This seemed to be affected by his foot injury? or the change to body shape? His disposal on backline was always seen as frightening, but his initial accuracy as a forward was outstanding. So his complexity and ability to change has already been evidenced. My question is , is the foot ? Injury? addressed and solved, is his body type? muscle type ? Whatever stable? can he regain his running ability. We have seen the value of Langdon on th wing, not a speedster but able to run and link. Could TMac be the link on the other side. can run into forward line and add an option and fade back to add an extra body. Big for a winger but perhaps can be that variable point of difference with our team reminiscent of the Tigers centre line Burke Barrot and Clay who were all tall, ran all day and revolutionised the way the game was played.

  17. I know they've been tracking them for years but how could they confidently say next year's crop will be better when the last exposed form they have on these kids is as 16yos?

  18. It amazes me that they consider making rules changes for the upcoming season after trade period. Surely reducing rotations would put a greater price on endurance beasts or players with greater positional flexibility. The AFL need to better understand what they are trying to fix before they start doing things to fix. If they want a more attractive game with less duration then they should focus on understanding the root cause of improving the flow of the game rather than improving scoring. If you want to Improve the flow Hulu need to address the root cause which Is continual heavy stoppages and the chip game. To start addressing these remove the most offensive rule in the game of having to call out a ruckman. Ball it up when the ump is ready and expect one from each team to contest. Reduce the rotations to 15 per quarter and go back to 2 on the bench with 2 emergencies only for concussion tests and non returning injuries. This will create more positional play and keep the better players on the ground for longer. It also additionally supports the smaller list sizes. Thirdly increase the length of a kick to a true 20 or 25m and umpire it effectively. The game will open up, the play will flow and the scoring will follow. Less stoppages and short marks less time off and shorter quarters with more actual play.

  20. As I understand it both of those grounds are owned by the local authorities. Kardinia Park is a big money spinner for the area and Whitten Oval is a green space that the local community has access to 7 days a week and is attached to a community sports hall managed by Victoria University. I cycle past the ground a lot and it looks like the money spent there has had a really positive effect. I'm sure that once our club has concrete plans signed off and can prove that the space will also be an asset to the local rate payers we'll also be due a government hand out. Unfortunately we're starting from scratch and much of the work done to date has been behind the scenes.

  26. Having re-watched his highlights package and having heard him interviewed about joining the Dees, I just do not understand why North let him go. I just don’t get it. He’s a gun. And he strikes me as a quality individual. Brown has the potential to become my favourite player. And quite quickly too.

  27. At least with Franklin he was clearly the most marketable player in the competition, and close to the best. You could see the off-field upside of that deal given Sydney market needs something shiny to keep their attention, even if it was clear it would be painful onfield and restrictive to the salary cap as he aged which has proven true. Grundy is a really good player, but he isn’t exciting or marketable, and Collingwood have no need for something shiny. Easy in hindsight to say they should’ve let Grundy go or at least stuck to a more moderate offer and rolled the dice. List management is actually a foresight game, armed with the knowledge of your entire book of contracts plus some pretty informed projections. Collingwood should’ve just said “In hindsight we took some risk and made some assumptions in trying to land a premiership that haven’t panned out. In particular with COVID impacts on salary cap expansion. We need to make some difficult calls now so we don’t breach total player payments rules. We took the approach that best way to correct this disappointing situation while minimising talent loss is to improve our ability to get access to the best 18 year olds through draft picks and put our faith in our recruiting and team and development program.”. That would’ve still been unpopular, but at least to their fans it can be reconciled that the risk was taken to snatch a premiership, plus nobody could predict COVID. What’s more it’s probably true too. Why they had to do this is a disaster. What people seem to miss is once they were in the disaster, what were their options and if they didn’t do those deals, were the alternatives worse? I think they’ve probably done OK given the position they found themselves in, it just doesn’t look like that.

  31. Yeah that’s a fair point. Going to be much more difficult for us to move up the order this year so, but given the amount of pick swaps we have pulled off over the last 2 drafts it would surprise me if we have finished swapping now. Will be interesting to see how the next 3 weeks play out.

  34. Apparently we only need to take one draftee and Mahoney has said we might keep a list spot vacant for future drafting (eg PSSP and mid season). So its hard to guess how many picks we will take. I would think one or two and upgrade Lockhart with pick 89. But it depends on whether we can trade up 18 and 19. Or trade up 28 and 50. Or some combo. I really doubt we will take 4 draftees (plus maybe Lockhart) so we will need to consolidate the picks we have somehow. If we can't I can see us converting 2 of our picks to a future pick. The picture will be a bit clearer once list and draft numbers are finalised and if we have some delistings in the coming weeks.

  37. Where does this leave our future star Harry Petty? CHF or CHB ? It will be interesting to see what happens in training in Early 2021. Hope Goody and coaches have an open mind and don't label one or the other categorically like he has Joel Smith. I would be quite happy to have both as swingman as Tommy Must be a reserve ruck also it looks like.

Hawks * bid Joel Western matched by Freo Hawks - Oliver Davies 25. Lions - Jye Sinderberry 26. Dogs used points 27. Suns * bid Conor Downie matched by Hawks Suns -Sam Collins 28. Dees - Nick Stevens (I’d probably be tempted to call Isaiah Winder here though if available. His raw talent and pace make him a steal) (Angwin and Ginnivan other chances here) 29. GWS. * bid Saxon Crozier matched by Lions GWS - Isaiah Winder 30. Kangas. Xavier Maher Cook, Poulter & Stevens represent 3 very skilled midfielders. Cook fits wing/HFF, Poulter fits RR/hbf, Stevens fits HBF /wing. Though Winder as a mid/HFF and senior footy experience is still a likely pickup.

  42. Great postWells Sensitive and positive and Like every Dees supporter I can't wait to see Ben strut his stuff with our other forwards on the G in 2021. If Bayley and Sam and Jacko plus the rest of the forwards have not started Walking a foot Taller already I'd be surprised. A sort of Restart to our 2014 journey This time with a final chapter and happy ending in a year or two!!!

  43. So, if i’ve read all this right. BB waa injured last year, a floating bone in his knee. He also lost a child and while dealing w that ordeal was stuck in a hub w a coach who was losing more of his [censored] by the day and a club that was internally imploding. So one way or other, as the club descended and the emergency grew down there , his massive form loss was perhaps taken personally by coach or those around him. Relationships seem to have been broken and they also obviously must have had some doubts about his capacity to recover physically. All in all a perfect time to buy the BB stock ... at its lowest ebb. But not without a degree of risk..... mitigated in a massive way by having burgess on our side. here’s hoping the arrival of BB lifts us up to the next level . out of the 6-10 range and into 3-6 range. fingers crossed.

  44. FWIW, I think Weed's agility and ground play is way under-rated, he can snare a ground ball and he's strong handballer on both sides which is very rare. I haven't seen anything from Petty to suggest he is better,

  45. Compare this to the way that MFC do business these days and we can be incredibly proud that, in these days of Trumpism and bad character, we treat people in the right way and are good to do business with. It counts for an awful lot, in the end, to look after your people properly.

  46. general 'vibe' is that north's pick 2 is up for grabs and that gc17 will likely only want ONE pick as they will bring in two top 15-20 rated players at NO COST due to their frankly outrageous zone allocation of the nt - they currently hold 5, 27, 37, 76, 84 18 and 19 should definitely be flipped - they are the equivalent points value of pick 5, which gc17 are pretty unlikely to give up peptides and the filth both have serious hard-ons for logan mcdonald from all reports; they both want that pick 2 from north our best hope might be to flip 18 and 19 for pick 8 and 44 pick 18 and 19 = 1933 points pick 8 and 44 = 1898 points peppies can then do, say, 7 and 19 for pick 2 and all of a sudden - in this year's top 20 - they have 2, 6, and 18, north have 7, 11, and 19, and we end up with pick 8 the biggest stumbling block might be that north might see more value in flipping 2 for 14 and 16 from the filth

  47. I’m still onboard the Jack Carroll train as the player we need and the player we are targeting. Teammate at East Freo colts with Riv and Jacko in 2019. Plays like? Simon Black. That’s why he is what we need. Skilled. Tough. Outside-in type midfielder. Turning 18 in December. 188cm 6’2 left footer. Saw him in 2019 Futures match and reckoned he would be an excellent fit. Would compliment our midfield bulls. Hope JT agrees. It could be why we are pushing to get into the Dogs pick 14 swap. (Macrae would also be very very good ).
